REGIMENT INFORMATION

The GH - Regimiento de Infantería África nº. 53 is an spanish regiment in the mod Iron Mod.
Our regiment is composed by an Infantry squad with the possibility of having a maximum of two snipers.
As Spain didn't participate in the 1st World War, our regiment will serve the two powers depending on the event necesities.

REGIMENT HISTORY

The 53rd African Infantry Regiment has its origins as the Espinar "Tercio" since 1706, its first Master of Field was D. José Espinar.
The Regiment was formed in the year 1706 and was disbanded in the 1958. It participated in some many wars and battles:
- The Spanish Succession War
- The Oran Defense
- The Melilla Defense
- The Afican War
- The Spanish Civil War
- And from 1896 to 1927 in the Spanish Wars in Morocco.

The Hispano-Moroccan War, also known as the Spanish–Moroccan War, the First Moroccan War, the Tetuán War, or, in Spain, as the African War (Spanish: La Guerra de África), was fought from Spain's declaration of war on Morocco on 22 October 1859 until the Treaty of Wad-Ras on 26 April 1860. It began with a conflict over the borders of the Spanish city of Ceuta and was fought in northern Morocco. Morocco sued for peace after the Spanish victory at the Battle of Tetuán.

The Rif War, also called the Second Moroccan War, was fought in the early 1920s between the colonial power Spain (later assisted by France) and the Moroccan Berbers of the Rif mountainous region. Led by Abd al-Karim, the Rifs at first defeated the Spanish forces by using guerrilla tactics and captured European weapons. After France's entry into the conflict and the massive landing of Spanish troops at Al Hoceima, el-Krim surrendered to the French and went to exile. Despite victory, controversy in Spain over the conduct of the war led to a military coup by General Miguel Primo de Rivera in 1923 and foreshadowed the Spanish Civil War of 1936-39.
