The East Yorkshire Regiment

HISTORY

Raising a Regiment

The East Yorkshire Regiment was formed on the 22 June 1685 and took part in the battles of Blenheim, Ramillies, Malpaquet, and Oudenarde before fighting in the American War of Independence from 1776 to 1778. It was at the Battle of Brandywine in 1777 that they gained their nickname 'The Snappers' - men snapped small powder charges to confuse the enemy into thinking they had more ammunition than they actually had, helping them win the battle.

Over the next 100 years the Regiment served in the West Indies; holding off the French from Martinique and Guadeloupe, saw action in the Afghan War and suffered many casualties in the Boer War.

With the outbreak of the First World War the Regiment grew to 19 battalions including four 'Pals Battalions'. The Regiment won four VC's and many other decorations. At the end of war in 1918 some of the battalions served in Iraq, India and North China and in 1935 the Regiment was granted the title of 'The Duke of Yorks Own'.

With the outbreak of the Second World War battalions served in France, the Middle East and Sicily. The 2nd and 5th battalions took part in the initial assault on the Normandy beaches where they made up a third of the total British Force in the first assault wave. 65 men were killed and 141 men were wounded on that first day. The Regiment were also involved in the final advance to Burma prior to the Japanese surrender in August 1945.

The Regiment was combined with the West Yorkshire Regiment in 1958.

Recruitment poster for the East Yorkshire region

Pals battalions

At the outbreak of the First World War Lord Kitchener was faced with the task of encouraging men to join the British Army. Sir Henry Rawlinson suggested that more men would enlist if they knew that would be serving with someone that they knew.

With the promise that men could serve with their friends and work colleagues a battalion was formed in London with over 1,500 men. The success of this led to battalions forming in Liverpool and Derby. It was in Derby that the term a 'battalion of pals' was first used.

Towns and cities all over Britain were then encouraged to organise recruitment campaigns that promised men that they could serve with people they knew and during the next month over fifty towns in Britain formed pals battalions.

Hull Pals

The first Hull Pals battalion was formed on the 29th August 1914 at Wenlock Barracks and formed part of the East Yorkshire Regiment. Within three months Hull had four 'pals' battalions. All 'pals' battalions had their own nickname. The 10th (Service) battalion called themselves the Hull Commercials. The three battalions that followed were called the Hull Tradesmen (11th (Service) battalion), the Hull Sportsmen (12th (Service) battalion) and the T'Others (13th (Service) battalion).

The Hull Pals also won two Victoria Crosses in the First World War. They were awarded to Pte John Cunningham of the Hull Sportsmen battalion on the 13th November 1916 for his heroic actions in the Battle of the Somme and 2nd Lt. John Harrison of the Hull Tradesmen in Oppy, France on the 3 May 1917. 2nd Lt. John Harrison was tragically killed in the assault that led to his award. His wife Lillian was presented with his Victoria Cross at Buckingham Palace by King George V in 1918.

15th Blood and Iron Humans vs Bots Server

THE 15th WEST`S GLORIOUS LAST STAND AGAINST THE BOT MENACE!

Welcome fellow Blood and Iron players! The 15th Regiment of Foot and Hussars are now hosting our own siege server 15th_BAI_Humans_vs_Bots which will be running and available to the public 24/7. The goal when playing on this server is for a bunch of stalwart human players to hold out in a make shift defensive compound against a bot horde (2 bots maximum for every human player) for 15 minutes each round! We are already hosting 16 custom made maps for this game mode and have many more planned for the near future!

Do not waste your time posting unban requests here unless there are any extenuating circumstances concerning your permanent ban! Do feel free to make intelligent comments about the server, the maps and to report any trouble makers on the server. If you are reporting a trouble maker be sure to tell us the exact time in GMT and give supporting evidence in the form of screenshots etc. If you are unable to provide the time of an offence and offer some visual evidence of a player`s wrong doing then we are unlikely to be able to do anything about the matter.

N.B. Currently the banlist is shared across both our HvB servers.

The Maps

Server Rules
1 - No more than 5 players are to lead the bots at any time. If there are 20 or less players on the human side then there are to be no more than 2 bot commanders!

2 - Admins will swap players if there are too many people leading the bots or they have chosen specific people to lead the bots for that round. If players repeatedly swap back then this will lead to temp bans for the human players betraying us to the robot menace!

3 - Everyone is obliged to have fun and strongly encouraged to aid their fellow man in every way they can in humanity`s most desperate hour of need! :D

4 - No talking about how when you get out of this hell you are going to make it back to Blighty, marry your sweetheart and take up your old job at the viagra factory... because you know if you do you won`t be making it back alive!

5 - Players are not to hassle admins to change maps, enable cavalry or alter any other settings.

6 - Anyone trolling the defences or wasting sapper points will be dealt with by the use of permanent bans.

7 - Any player who is being constantly offensive to other players will be temporarily banned or permanently banned depending upon the severity of the offences!

8 - Anyone using a deliberately offensive name will be permanently banned!

9 - Admins are not to use admin weapons or generally abuse admin powers without good cause or reason! If any admins are seen to be breaking these rules then report them on this forum along with exact dates and times in GMT of their offences! Do not waste our time in this matter or make false claims!

10 - There is a limit of one recruitment message to be made per round by each regiment. Multiple recruitment messages made by different people but for the same regiment will be treated as breaking this rule and will result in kicks or temporary bans.

11 - No arty griefing! Faliure to abide by this rule is likely to result in a temporary or permanent ban depending on the severity of the offences!

12 - No excessive bad behaviour of any kind! Admins will deal appropriately with anyone causing trouble on the server!

15th Regiment of Foot Siege Server

Welcome fellow NW players! I have the great honour of announcing that the 15th Regiment of Foot are now hosting their own siege server 15th_Siege which will be available to the public outside of all regimental events. We are already hosting 8 custom siege maps and have many more planned for the near future. We are endeavouring to give all Napoleonic Wars players a new, fun and varied siege experience where victory or defeat is not decided by a few, key players manning the artillery. In our maps there will be multiple ways of achieving victory if the players are brave, cunning or skilled enough to exploit them! :D

Hello, it has come to my attention that Betty the bomber has taken rather a dislike to me due to about 20 of their accounts being perma banned on the Humans_vs_Bots server. They have taken to wandering around the public games of NW using my name or a derivative thereof. I am asking all server hosters to feel free to perma ban anyone they find on their public servers that uses my name as it is going to be an impostor. In private servers there is no problem so i don`t want to be perma banned just for turning up to my regiment`s regular events! ;) But i will not be found on ANY public servers under the name 15th_Light_Col_Cenkris or any derivative name apart from the 15th_Humans_vs_Bots server which i of course run and admin! :D

UNIT SIZES AND TEAM COMPOSITION
Any number of Line Infantry - minimum 5 maximum 30
Any number of Light Infantry - minimum 5 maximum 20
1 regiment (or a maximum of 20 men) per side of Skirmishers - minimum 5 maximum 20

Note: Every regiment may also have 1 sapper amongst their number and due to the nature of the maps being used it is highly recommended that they do so! :D

THE RULES
*All the usual ones about not teamkilling and generally not being an idiot; i think you all know well enough how to behave so i won`t state the obvious here!
*All infantry on the attacking side should only move out of spawn in groups of 5 or more men. If you wish to move out and join the action sooner then tag behind a friendly line in order to do so!
*All normal formation rules apply to units whilst they are outside of the fortress. Once inside they can break ranks and go as crazy as they please!
*No rocketeers!
*Crouching is allowed for both defenders and attackers
*No musketoons as they lead to too much teamkilling!
*Defenders should not rambo out, an organised line may sally forth to fulfill some important objective if they wish but they must then obey the same formation rules as attackers do outside the castle.

15th Humans vs Bots Server

THE 15th REGIMENT OF FOOT`S GLORIOUS LAST STAND AGAINST THE BOT MENACE!

Welcome fellow NW players! The 15th Regiment of Foot are now hosting our own siege server 15th_Humans_vs_Bots! The goal when playing on this server is for a bunch of stalwart human players to hold out in a make shift defensive compound against a bot horde (2 bots for every human player) for 20 minutes each round! We are already hosting 47 custom made maps for this game mode and have many more planned for the near future!

Server Rules
1 - No more than 2 players are to lead the bots at any time.

Multiple recruitment messages made by different people but for the same regiment will be treated as breaking this rule and will result in temporary or permanent bans.

11 - No arty griefing! Faliure to abide by this rule is likely to result in a temporary or permanent ban depending on the severity of the offences!

12 - No excessive bad behaviour of any kind! Admins will deal appropriately with anyone causing trouble on the server!

Regiments / 15th Regiment of Foot (recruiting EU&NA)
« on: November 11, 2012, 10:07:26 pm »

The 15th Regiment of Foot is a Light infantry regiment who aim to make a fun playing experience for all our members as well as providing a good environment in which people can train their skills and better their performance. Strong emphasis will be placed upon the concepts of mutual respect and comradeship between our members and we will endeavour to ensure that our regiment always strives to uphold the best possible manners and discipline on the field of battle. Although we are primarily a European regiment we will gladly accept players of any nationality as long as they are okay with the fact most of our events will happen around 7 p.m. GMT.

Additionally the 15th  has Light Infantry, Rifles, Artillery, Line Infantry, Scots and Cavalry

History of the 15th East Yorkshire.

Raised in 1685 in Nottingham by Sir William Clifton, 3rd Baronet, it was originally, like many British infantry regiments, known by the name of its current Colonel. In 1751, when the numerical system of designation of Regiments of Foot was adopted, it became the 15th Regiment of Foot and in 1782 the 15th (The Yorkshire East Riding) Regiment of Foot.

The 15th Regiment of foot fought with great distinction under Marlborough at Blenheim, Ramillies, Ovdenarde and Malpaquet (1704-1709) and again under James Wolfe at Louisburg in 1758 and in the following year at Quebec. The officers of this regiment wear black 'ground' with their collar badges and a black line in the goldlace of the full dress uniform - all as a memorial to the regiment`s association with General Wolfe. White roses (the white roses of York) are fastened to the colour pikes on Quebec day.

During the War of American Independance (1777) the 15th ran short of ammunition at Philadelphia during the battle of the Brandywine; the commanding officer ordered the men to 'snap and be damned'. The best shots fired ball ammunition and the rest either fired blank charges or snapped the locks of their empty muskets so as to confuse the enemy - hence the nickname of 'The Snappers'.

In the Napoleonic wars, the 15th unfortunately did not fight in the European theatre, they did however contribute greatly in the Caribbean theatre of war.
In the invasion of Martinique in 1809 the opposing French forces offered little stiff resistance until all the defenders fled to Fort Desaix.
For nine days, the British soldiers and sailors of the expeditionary force constructed gun batteries and trenches around the fort, bringing ashore large quantities of supplies and equipment in readiness for a lengthy siege. At 16:30 on 19 February the preparations were complete and the bombardment began, 14 heavy cannon and 28 mortars beginning a continuous attack on the fort which lasted for the next four days. French casualties in the overcrowded fort were severe, with 200 men killed or wounded. British casualties were minimal, with five killed and 11 wounded, principally in an explosion in an ammunition tent manned by sailors from HMS Amaranthe. At 12:00 on 23 February, Villaret de Joyeuse's trumpeter was sent to the British camp with a message proposing surrender terms. These were unacceptable to Beckwith and the bombardment resumed at 22:00, continuing until 09:00 the following morning when three white flags were raised over the fort and the French admiral surrendered unconditionally. The bombardment had cracked the roof of the fort's magazine, and there were fears that further shelling might have ignited the gunpowder and destroyed the building completely.
In 1810 the 15th similarly participated in the invasion of nearby Guadeloupe where it aided in the capture of the 66e's Imperial Eagle.
