The group stage of the EGS #2 6v6 offered some amount of smaller surprises, without having a "THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED" moment. While defending champion Amaterasu only lost 3 rounds in their group, behind them it was more than just close. It started off with the last tournament´s surprise 13e Academy losing against Gordon with 3-5, just to then beat the favorite for place 2 in the group, NPP in a last-round decider. This lead to the constellation that in the NPP vs Gordon match both had a chance to get eliminated or advance in 2 different spots, with them also having an influence on 13es progress. But a situation where Gordon could have advanced with losing was not needed as they surprisingly also won against NPP, even in a confident manner 5-2. So Gordon advanced 2nd, 13e Academy 3rd, and surprisingly eliminated got NPP. The whole groups was also made closer by SF producing 2 very close matches, although failing to win one of them. For two reasons group D was also interesting. It was the only group where 2 favorites, Poosy, and Virgins, met. Poosy taking home spot 1 with a 5-2 win. Furthermore, Fluss played a good group to advance in front of another good performing team from the 5v5, in front of MistyMountains. One of the quality-wise best matches in groups was CCCPs 5-4 win against Snappers.
The first knock-out round was as to be expected not as close as in the 5v5. Only 2 matches being relatively close with Snappers 5-2 success against NSS. NSS surely disappointed by missing out on the quarter-final. And the "Rookie Duel" between the 2 Rookie teams that convinced us in the first part of the tournament. This match was won by Fluss (5-4) after being behind from the beginning and being the slightly unexpected winner, considering Gordon´s results in the 6v6. In the quarter-final, Poosy and Amateratsu went through without big trouble, although CCCP played well against Amaterasu. ProudBoys taking their match too easy brought some unexpected issues to beat Fluss, only doing it 7-5 in the end. The top match being Virgins fighting back from a poor result in the 5v5, and beating Enigma in a super close contest 7-6. After DarkTemplar had controlled Extazz for some important rounds, he managed to free himself. But it's important to mention Virgins played way more as a team this time and thereby achieved that result. They continued doing that in the semi-final against championship leader Amaterasu. Were down 3-5, fought back to a 6-5 matchpoint, and still lost it with 6-7. Especially Quenouille popped off in that match, but Amaterasu just proved to be too strong. Winning round 12 after together being pushed to the wall as a team for about 30 seconds, and captain Zeyden doing the important first pick in the final round. The other semi for 3/4 looked to see a surprising winner in an easy manner. ProudBoys lead Poosy by 6-2, somehow losing 5 in a row to still lose the match and Poosy completing the same final as in the 5v5 tournament. Its needed to say that for Poosy especially Python stepped up and carried them to some extend while ProudBoys had issues with both Shadey and Fwuffy being unable to play due to lags, minimum Shadey being a hard loss. The bronze match was easily taken by Virgins with a 7-1 win against a demoralized ProudBoys team.
And the final was about to become another huge game. It offered us a completly different course than the final we had seen before. Amaterasu looking to be an easy winner for a major part, while they played strong, Poosy was seemingly in some alter ego, playing not better than any midfield team, probably overthinking the tactics, being picked early (tbf also got some very early picks) and losing every single midround situation, it was Amateratsu to lead by 8-2 after only about 10 minutes being played. But then, Amaterasu had an attack of arrogance, they should have learned different from 2 weeks ago, when it was in their favor, but they decided to give Altair and TheDead some playtime and therefore benched Jakob and Achilles. It instantly started to go against them, the changes done by Poosy beforehand worked against the weaker line-up. Hertz replaced Hypno in the formation, but the positions were changed, most memorable Python getting to play mid now. After 3 rounds, the line-up was swapped back but still, it went on to 6 rounds in a row in total. The downward spiral was broken by Higen who picked Python and lead Amaterasu to this incredibly important round. But Hertz decided to make 4 kills in the 18th round so the final got to an all deciding round shortly after. Under this immense pressure, it was once again Zeyden who delivered and picked Python. Amaterasu stayed focused and won round, match and tournament. Quite ironic it was Python to twice get first picked in the end, after it was him being the semi and final MVP, only allowing all this to even happen with an at parts surreal performance. Btw great to see that for the second time every single round had to be played in the semis and the final.
