1. With unlimited wealth I'd probably just buy a small apartment since I have no use for more space then that, I've never understood the obssession of needing to have so much more then you need. I find it depressing.

2. Then I'd probably buy a bar as well cause I've always thought it would be cool to own your own bar.

3. I'd travel the world for many reasons.

4. I would donate tons and tons of money to help to solve as much starvation and deceases as possible.

5. I'd die happy knowing that I did what I could to help those in need.

Now this is of course all just on paper I don't know what I would actually turn into if I got that much money.

Just going to a pretty big city, like London, or New York, where there are a lot of tourists. And of what I speak the language.
Look around for homeless people. And, you know, not just give them money, but take them out for a luch of something. Have general conversation. Be interested. Ya know?

I would do a lot of good.  8)

Spread the wealth, help the poor, and do my best to subvert the system. Fund political and media organizations. Also, create community centers with an emphasis on civics.
Fund and establish autonomous non-profit social centres.

I'd also set some money aside for myself so that I can spend some time educating myself on progressive- and anarchism-based education (you know, the ones based on the ideas of people like John Dewey and Francisco Ferrer).
Then I'd use the money to set up a global confederated network of schools and collectives based on these principles.

I - along with thousands of other agitators will begin educating kids on the ideals of anarchism and thus begin the necessary process required to create an anarchist revolution. It took the Spaniards about 70 years to collectively educate themselves and create the Spanish Revolution of 1936. I'm guessing that, assuming I start tomorrow, a spontaneous global revolution can happen in the year 2080 or somewhere near that time.

I'd also buy a huge chunk of land, pretty much an entire valley. Set up wind & solar generation facilities to power more than my max expected energy demands and tap into the local aquifer if possible, with a wind-powered pump & huge holding tanks near the top of the ridge.

Then I'd build what would basically be a huge underground bunker complex of a house further down the hill. Water storage uphill would provide plenty of operating pressure, and I'd have one of the tanks have a large exposed black surface to provide solar heating of water to cut down on energy needs there.

Then I'd build some glass domes for greenhouses, a very well-equipped kitchen, and dormitories (all part of the same underground complex, except for the domes of course). I'd also build a fucking huge shop, equipped with all of the tools I could ever see needing.

The valley would have a basic airstrip, woodlot, etc. Then I'd invite all of my friends to live there with me, and have an open door policy for anyone that wanted to visit. Guests would be allowed to come and go as they want, as well as make use of the shop, library, etc.

Any money after that would be set up in a trust to provide operating & unexpected expenses in the future. Any further money after that would likely be invested in either setting up identical operations elsewhere or perhaps in a number of charities, or possibly starting my own.

In essence, I guess, I'd be setting up a self-sufficient commune of a sorts.

Learning is something we do naturally, curiosity is a human trait that can only really be extinguished using institutions like modern schools. For example, let's take reading and writing. When kids are read stories by their parents, they are fascinated, they get enveloped into the story. Eventually they will want to be able to read for themselves so they will ask people to teach them. Similarly, children are creative like fuck. They will also want to write their own adventures, draw their own comics (i used to do that). Education doesn't have to be forced, don't take today's schooling system as an example.

The history of higher education is really fascinating — you can trace the modern Western university back to the 10th-12th centuries in Europe.

What really blew my mind was that there were essentially two very different university models back then. First was the faculty guild model, which we're all familiar with, best exemplified in the Universities of Paris and Oxford.

However, there was a second model, actually older, based in southern Europe, particularly in Bologna and Padua — based on a student guild model, where students had, for hundreds of years, basically complete control over all university functions, with most matters decided democratically amongst themselves or through their elected representatives.

There's always been an anarchist, democratic current underlying higher education since its conception. Of course, it's been very much in the interest of people currently running higher ed to avoid mentioning that at all.

You fail to realise that our current education system is centered around preparing children for a future in Capitalism, meaning preparing them on getting jobs in a competitive market. Children naturally develop and pursue their own interests, and it is the role of friends, parents, family members to provide them with materials that help further their own education.

Money isn't the only, and not even a very good incentive to do something good with your life. Greed makes doctors give patients treatments they don't need and would probably be better off without. Removing the greed factor would therefor also reduce the need of doctors overall.

I'm laughing at you because you think giving autonomy to students is brainwashing.

The whole fucking point of modern schools is that there is no trace of ideology. We have stopped teaching our kids that in order to give them the freedom to find their own once they get older and hit the age where they can understand those ideologies. The entire system is DESIGNED to keep ideologies out of the classroom.

You are mistaking the lack of ideologies as a sign that 'the system' (let's pretend for a second that there's a single educational standard in this country, which there is not) is trying to ban all other ideologies but 'capitalism', which is an incredibly stupid thing to say as there is absolutely nothing that stops you from educating yourself trough other means, and there's a variety of university or college studies that have political theories in its course, including the one I do.

The only political lessons I was given in primary education was about how the government works and having respect for another person's ideology. High school was a repetition of that with a few lessons on different political ideals, once again with an emphasis on respecting those who follow said ideals, but we never went on for more then a few lessons because pretty much everybody lacked the interest.

You make a mistake in thinking that schools exist to educate. Modern schools exist to indoctrinate people into submitting to the system, and possibly give them some sort of skill that they can use to produce for the system. Lots of people miss out on creativity and problem solving and instead are submitted to standardized testing, etc.

As currently organized, universities are credentialing organizations. A degree is, for better or worse, a certificate that the student has gained some level of expertise in a specific field of study. The "worse" side of all of that is that the widespread need for the credential means that there are lots of students who probably really wouldn't study without all the formal structures, while, of course, the credentialing process can't do without at least some of them.

Why does our education call for individuals to specialize in one subject? Why has bridging across disciplines, until fairly recently, been discouraged?

Really, with the Internet like it is today, it's not hard to be self-taught, so long as you forgo the structured learning style that's promoted in schools and adopt one that's based around experimentation and creativity.

You seem to think that someone made or designed 'the system', you consider it something 'stuck', while education and the way we perceive and receive education is an on-going development with no starting point and no end. Radicals have tried to completely redesign the system, such as in the USSR and Nazi Germany, always to create support and a future for the political ideas the designers follow. We have finally a system where none are supported and none are banned, and you still complain.

In the system of capitalism which needs an obedient workforce that can't think for themselves, how will you prevent an educational system that will fit those needs?
To be more clear, labor is a commodity under capitalism along with the children within the educational system. Since the major buyer of that commodity (children) is private interests, it seems that supply will meet demand. In other words, market pressures will turn private schools into schools that make children obedient and dumb.

For instance, if I'm a capitalist, why the fuck would I want some critical thinker who might question me, my motives, and ethics? I would go to the school that teaches obedience and conformity and so would every sane capitalist in the world. It seems to me that market pressures would take over and every parent would want to take their kids to those schools that help them join the workforce. Of course, it won't be advertised like that but it's not like private schools are advertising that today even though that is exactly what they are doing. Fuck dude, the kids that come out of private schools are like fucking marines.

Most teachers did so in my case but there were always teachers that went against the curriculum and made people think critically, also socialisation with other students made me learn a lot. I would for instance always side with the underdogs who got bullied by the other kids. The competetive nature that the capitalist system demands is present in most school and this creates abbhorent behaviour like bullying. I guess as a foreigner, i was more socially aware than most children.

One of my high school history teachers described himself as an anarchist. He explained why communism is not as ridiculous as most of the students thought. After he covered the Spanish Revolution I started to take anarchism seriously. Its stuff like that which gives me a little hope, there's always voices of dissent and those are the one's that matter.

There is much room for improvement, while I've had some extraordinarily shitty teachers in my time, I've also had some amazing teachers who directly influenced my identity as a radical. Speaking for myself, my history teacher taught us about Bakunin, Kropotkin and Proudhon as part of an overall unit about political philosophy and history.

I think most teachers strive to be real educators, and some are even radicals, but they're all constrained to some degree by a system that is designed chiefly for indoctrination.

I nearly completely agree with Augy.

I pity you people who think this world and most modern society is fair. Have you forgot the times of recent? Do you truly believe the fallacy that you are free? I am saddened that you have allowed your mind to be compromised. Who protects you from your protector? The truth is we the human race have an un-imaginable amount of changes to come for us to reach the world we need. At this rate i have strong doubts the human race will reach its true potential.

If I had unlimited wealth i think I would just withdraw loads of notes from a cash machine and use those notes as insulation for my cardboard box I live in... I would probably use my wealth to also give to strangers when I'm begging on the street to convince them to give me food.
