Ahh sorry. Usually an available ref contacts me on steam or on the thread if they're going to do the match, they don't just show up to it. Should I be doing this some other way?

Occasionally, but you can go through the thread and then compare it to the match records channel on TeamSpeak and you'll see the actual number of referees in matches vs. those who post on the thread.
