Autoupdater, what do you think?
« on: November 28, 2012, 12:45:45 am »
Hello

The new update has alot of good new things implement, but i  dont think the auto updater is a improvement. What i can say is that people with less PC experience have troubles to install/update the mod correctly or to launch a server (already needed to help 2 server hosters) .

There should be more ways to update a client or server, at the side of the autoupdater, a manuel file i can downlaod, people should have the choice. A hidden autoupdater.exe file in the mod folder is not a great solution. You cant force everyone to read the forum thread "how to install" Copy/Paste is the common way to install a mod ;)

its better for modders but is it better to rise the ammount of players? i think not.

I think it works fine, less of a hassle for me. Also when installed it shows up on my programs list on the start bar as NorthandSouth.exe so easy to find.

For me the autoupdater doesn't work properly.
I know how to fix it, but would be fine if the devs make a tutorial for those who could not fix this by their own. When they don't, thei're fucked because thy couldn't update their game any more! Because old-style .zip-files are not any more available to patch the game the other way.
I don't say the autoupdater is not a fine work, but keep it simple for the others as well who are not so known with PCs!

More user friendly support please!

Its located in your North and South module folder!
Just open it, there is an NaS Updater.exe in it. Start it and press update :)

Imo the idea of the autoupdater is great and it´s really easy to use it. But it´s very complicated to tell everybody of my regiment how to update their North and South. I also support the idea of having two ways of installing: 1. The updater and 2. a manual install (also with a .rar data due to the fact, that at some people the installer simply not work).

Guys this poll is asking for the updater plus a download link for the zip file to manually update, if you have found the updater then sure, but others may not be able to find/work it making them unable to play the game

It would be very helpful if you could release a manual install because we have some Mac Users ( i know, i know Mac  :o ) in our Regiment and they can't use the Updater.

It's a good thing, but I think that a lot of people probably don't get how to update and end up not playing. Of course they're idiots, but idiots are needed fill up the servers.

What if the updater is not in your folder...

It must be in the folder, there is no reason why its not available (it will be installed during the setup) :)

Otherwise: Pls send me a screenshot of your North and South folder!
