We have Star Wars threads so huge, and yet I haven't seen any Lotr threads here.

Will work on this when I have time.

This thread is basically a place where you can talk and ask about everything that is relative to Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit.

I felt like the hobbit movies were underrated just because they were not always true to the books. I have read/watched both and enjoyed them thoroughly.

Yes according to the Silmarillion etc the hobbit had some minor errors. The extended edition was fun though.

Anyone else here who has read the Silmarillion?

I have a copy of the Silmarillion but I have yet to read it sadly. I will make sure to give it a read when I get the chance.
  The Hobbit was one of the first books I ever read, I remember reading it in class as well, although the one I read in class was a later edition with some lovely artwork by Alan Lee. I had an earlier edition (sixties or seventies I think) with the more traditional green and blue cover with the mountains on it.

I love Lord of the Rings, and the Hobbit book. The Hobbit movies were good but IMHO not up to par with LoTR movies.
After the third movie of the Hobbit 'trilogy' Battle of the Five Armies, it shows the director just won't make subjectively 'good' or 'best' use of the source material. What is different in the extended edition though?
