Best gaming laptops - Not too Expensive
« on: December 17, 2015, 04:43:18 pm »
Hello!

I have a gaming PC but I'm not really fund of it now that it begins to crash multiple times and stuff and doing other things I don't like.
As I go to my friends their houses they always have a nice laptop they can put anywhere and sit with it anywhere, and I'm finding it more comfortable.

Are there any good Laptops in the market for gaming? Not really too expensive but deliver good FPS and Graphics.
What do you guys prefer?

Depends on your budget entirely. I could without any hesitation reccomend a Razer Blade 2015, but those cost upwards of €2k. On the other side, you can get decent custom ones for €600-700 from PCSpecialist.

PC Specialist is good. The quality is decent, and you can customise better than with most builders. You'd definitely get a solid laptop for less than that.

I went to the store, and just picked out the most expensive one. Hope it was a worth the money.

Would I go for AMD or Nvidia?

Im not so good in building laptops as I don't know which specs are good with each other. Ppl recomend the Geforce GTX 960M though as a graphical card.

970M is the sweet spot imo, and I'd definitely suggest NVidia over AMD for laptops :)

It is simple, really.

This is for Desktop PCs.
Spoiler
Here is the list of High End Cpus.
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

For your gaming PC, ignore all the Xeon Cpus and simply compare the scores of the I7, I5, I3 Cpus.

For Graphics cards, here is the list of High End GraCards
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Ignore stuff like Quadro, because these are not made for gaming and are not worth their price if you only play games.

For ram, I suggest getting a minum of 8 GB for gaming, Though personally I would go for 16GB
And another important thing is getting a SSD. It does not have to be huge, just put your Windows System on it, and install all your games on it.
They will run A LOT faster if you install them on the SSD. For old games that is not needed, but new games like Battlefront3 can make very good use of the added speed of the SSD.

Additionally you should obviously also get a TB or more SATA Drive, for storing all the other stuff that does not need to be read/written super fast. You know, music, pictures etc.

And this is for Laptops

Personally, if you do not move all the time, get a PC. It is much better in terms of Price-Value.
If you move a lot inside your appartment/house, consider getting a good PC and a cheap laptop.
With Steam streaming you can stream games from your PC to your laptop.
That means that your laptop doesn't need anything especially good. All the stuff will be rendered on your Desktop PC.
That way you can achieve really good graphics while still being able to move around in your house.

So yeah, if you feel like playing games in the Living room, or in the bathroom, or in the kitchen, or in the garden... Just get a Gaming PC and a cheap laptop and stream the games.
It is also more comfortable, as the cheap laptop wont be as heavy as a really good Gaming Laptop.

Yeah i move around quite some time. It's a bit more comfortable for me.

But again, thanks a lot.

That link Klar posted is a pretty good start, but get 8GB of RAM not 4GB. It barely costs you any extra but is pretty important for any modern games. Otherwise you'll get bottlenecked on RAM, as the rest of it has plenty of power. Obviously adjust any other bits that are relevant depending on where you live etc (shipping, power socket etc).

Looking at your budget, get 16GB RAM, the 970/980 (980 will bring it to ~2k, with 970 ~1.7k), an SSD, 1TB storage, and get a year's warranty. If you're spending that kind of money, you can afford an extra 50 euros to keep the whole thing under warranty for a year (most problems show well within that time). Also please make sure it's insured within your own home.
That way you'll have a pretty nicely future-proofed rig which isn't extortionate. Even if everything goes to complete shit, you won't lose the average GDP of a small African nation.

For future reference guys, don't write in your thread "not too expensive" if you have a budget which is "max 2k euros". Those are not the same thing. ::)
