The 33rd Regiment of Foot is proud to Host another One-off Historical Event, taking place on 14th December at 6:45gmt lasting until 8:00gmt. The Event will consist of 6 Rounds across 5 maps and will include Battle, Conquest and Siege rounds. Sign ups will be made on this forum however the final confirmation of attendance and the giving out of the password will be handled on steam, therefore it is essential that you Add [33rd]Kincaid on Steam!

Sir John Moore assumed command of the British Army in October 1808 and led it across Portugal and Spain to link up with his Spanish allies to commence a campaign against his better wishes. At much the same time Napoleon arrived in the Peninsula at the head of 125,000 battle hardened veterans. Having restored his brother back on the Spanish throne, Napoleon turned his attention to remove Moore’s army. With his lines of communication compromised, Moore was forced to retreat in the dead of winter over the inhospitable Galician mountains, his army fighting tenacious rear-guard actions to facilitate their escape to Corunna where they turned to face the French. It is a harrowing yet heroic story of a retreat in often freezing conditions where hunger, tiredness and inadequate clothing were as much an enemy to Moore’s men as their French pursuers. It still represents one of the harshest ordeals endured and survived by any British Army to date.

Please note that this Event will be replacing our Wednesday Conquest Event for this date only, our usual Conquest will continue to take place after this date.

Stage 1 - Cavalry Skirmish at Sahagún - Admin Controlled Battle (10mins)

Early on in the Campaign it became apparent that retreat for the British Army was inevitable with the hgue forces arrayed against him. Before resigning himself to the retreat however, Moore attempted a pre-emtive strike against Soults isolated corps - reconaissance troops of these forces clashed at Sahagún.

Stage 2 - Holding off the French at Benavente - 2 Rounds of Battle (15-20mins)

With the British army now fully withdrawing and the French corps concentrating, a vanguard largely comprised of French cavalry cross the river Elsa heading towards Benavente. Lord Paget's cavalry stand to attempt to halt their advance.

Stage 3 - Retreat through the Mountains - Battle (15mins)

The British retreat across northern Spain is slow in the extreme winter weather, the French hard on their heels. A delay in the British progress has caused an action - the British rearguard must delay the french whilst making their way to higher ground for any hope of surviving the offensive.

Stage 4 - Action at Bentazos - Siege (20mins)

Admin Controlled Siege - all Movement orders for both teams given by admins. When UK reach the town proceed with normal Siege
Exhausted by the prolonged retreat, many british units have dissented into chaos and a total rout may be a risk as the retreat breaks free of the montain passes. Steadfast british discipline must be relied on to prevent the French cavalry vanguard from turning the withdrawal into a complete rout!

Stage 5 - Battle of Corunna, Struggle for Elvina - Conquest (20mins)

Normal Conquest
The British finally reach Corunna intact, with Soults corps on their heels. before evacuation by the Navy can commence Soult daringly attempts to destroy the remainder of the Brtiish entirely. In the centre of this action, holding the small town of Elvina may represent the difference between Victory and Defeat.
