Hey guys, time for a government sponsored AAR!
52nd vs Nr12
This line battle was undoubtedly one of our best in the past few weeks. It was a brutal fight, but we managed to pull together our shooting, melee, and unit commands to secure a solid 7 - 3 victory.
The match began with a furious exchange of musket fire as the two regiments fought over the hills and through the gullies of the map. It was a back and forth affair, with neither side being able to gain an advantage over the other through the repeated flanks and reverse columns. Things only began to turn in favor of the 52nd after a series of lucky long range volleys weakened the Nr12 enough to be approached in melee. A few good rounds of repeating that strategy was enough to win the first four rounds in a row.
The rest of the match wasn't so simple an endeavor. The Nr12 adapted well to the long ranged strategy being used against them, using the terrain to come in close or reflecting the movements of the 52nd to avoid the musket fire. Once the melee fight was met all strategy was abandoned. It was left to the soldiers caught in the visceral pockets of death to group fight or die. Unfortunately the 52nd wasn't fully prepared for when the winning strategy no longer sufficed. The Nr12 pushed hard, butchered their way through two successive rounds, throwing the 52nd onto the defensive. The match was 4 - 2 now. It was a solid lead, but there was fighting left to be done.
The ending rounds of the match were more even, now that the two sides understood the tactics being used by their opponents. The 52nd broke the two round momentum of the Nr12 with a great round of melee that stood out from the others. They then followed it up with a great round of shooting that won them another round, bringing back the early game strategy that had won them the lead. The Nr12 returned with a round of great maneuvering that caught the 52nd off their feet and completely unable to shoot, which helped them win the melee fight and take the round. It was 6 - 3 now, with only one round left.
The final round was hard fought, but the 52nd managed to pull through to victory through sheer strength of arms. Both sides tore away at each other with musket fire before fighting down to the wire with bayonets and swords. There stood only a handful of troops left after the battle ended.
Overall, it was a great game and a ton of fun. Great job to both sides for how well they played. It'll be interesting to see how the fight goes once the NWL comes along.
