Rumble in the Jungle=Ongoing

In the African Theatre, the war looks ever so grim for the German Empire.

In German Togoland, French Colonial Forces have completed their last unopposed push into the tiny German protectorate. The few German troops stationed there had given up without a fight, leaving France in control of a new colony. In German Kamarun, French Colonial forces have also continued their unopposed advance deeper into German territory. Unless the Germans act soon, the French may soon occupy the entirety of the German colony, giving Germany less of a foothold in Africa.

Meanwhile, in Germany's South African colonies, the situation grows more and more worse for the Germans. The already small numbers of German troops in her colonies dwindles fast, as more and more bold attacks by the unknown troops are staged on German positions. Officers, soldiers, and civilians alike are taken to the jungle and never heard from again. Many supply lines have been harassed and destroyed, also leaving both civilians and military personnel in a difficult state. The unknown African insurgents have yet to be identified.

Trouble in Bulgaria

It was a perfect day in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia. The sun was out, the birds were singing, kids played in the street. The sounds of local commerce and industry filled the air, people walked to and from work left and right. The city was calm and relaxed and despite the massive war going on in the Balkans, an air of security blanketed itself upon the city of Sofia. Surely, they were safe in their city away from the fighting.

Suddenly whistles were blown and a great clamor was heard coming from one of Sofia's largest weapons factories. Scores of local police and government authorities swarmed the large industrial building, with shouts and whistles being heard clear as day from inside. The authorities, after a long search, emerged from the building slowly carrying 3 large satchels.

Bombs! According to local eyewitnesses, mysterious individuals were spotted skulking in and around the factory early that morning. One of them was seen planting a satchel beneath a support beam holding up the building's second floor, and the upstanding citizen called the authorities. Upon arriving, the mysterious strangers made a quick escape, with nobody seeing where they went or how many there were.

While many were relieved that a major catastrophe had just been averted, many were furious and demanded an answer as to who would dare engage in such dishonorable espionage. Rumors circulated throughout the city, some believing it was a group of revolutionaries trying to gain attention, while others blamed their nations enemies for this misfortune. Whoever was the mastermind of this brazen attack, they have gotten away this time.

October 24th-30th

2nd Battle of Montenegro - October 22nd-Ongoing
In the Balkan front, the Austrians made another great effort to push into Montenegro this past week, with a large reinforcing army, 100 thousand men strong, rushing to the aid of the previously bloodied Austrian army. The Montenegrins, capitalising on their initial success, continued to dig in and prepare for the suspected Austrian counter-attack.

The Austrians began the battle with a great hail of artillery bombardment. For an entire day, Austrian heavy artillery pounded the Montenegrin positions in the mountains, sending hundreds and thousands of shells right on top of the poor Montenegrins. Following the bombardment, however, the Austrians were absolutely flabbergasted to see the Montenegrins still quite alive and well, despite the sheer volume of shells fired at them. Despite surviving the initial bombardment, many Montenegrins lost their lives along with some of their fortifications. This would not make the Montenegrins falter, however, for on the day of the first Austrian assault the Montenegrin army held bravely in the face of vastly superior numbers! Outnumbered 3-1 on the front lines, the gallant men of Montenegro defended their positions down to the last bullet and last man, eventually holding out by the time the day had ended, and the first Austrian assault with it.

This was not the beginning however, for on the next day, and for many after that, the Austrians continued to make daring and bold assaults up on the Montenegrins defending in the mountains. The Montenegrins, despite their excellent defensive position, were absolutely drowning in the sheer amount of men the Austrians threw at them. Many groups of Austrian infantry made it into the trenches of the Montenegrins, and horrible, dirty, grueling melee combat was a typical sight during this offensive. The battle was bloody and gruesome, with absolutely no rules.

However, despite the massive numbers of the Austrians, the heavy bombardment of the Montenegrins, and the many assaults launched by Austria-Hungary, the battle eventually devolved into a bitter stalemate. The Austrians, despite their massive push and great losses, did not succeed in breaking through the defensive line of Montenegro.

Austrian casualties, including Killed, Wounded, Missing and Deserted, numbered 77 thousand, while Montenegrin casualties numbered 44 thousand. Clearly, something new will have to be done to advance in this bloody war.

Front of Provence - October 24th-Ongoing
In the Front of Provence, things were unusually quiet. The defending French, in their preparation for an Italian attack, failed to realise that a large portion of the Italian troops had in fact started to pull back from their positions. By the time the French realised their mistake, they had already spent too much time fortifying to capitalise on the vulnerable retreat of the Italian troops.

The front, so far, has been uneventful. Neither side has begun to prepare a major offensive, with the French intensifying their defenses and the Italians front line troops slowly beginning to pull back.
While the top military officials may be soured by this grand display of ineptitude, the common soldier of both sides breathes easily, however short that breath may be.

Battle for the English Channel -October 29th-Ongoing

The German Navy, having just beaten the French at sea, moved West to pursue the damaged fleet. Emboldened by their victory, the Germans were startled when they spotted their absolute worst nightmare; the might British Fleet!

Beaming down on them from the North, the British fleet gave chase to the smaller German fleet, taking pride in their massive ships and dreadnoughts that sailed with them. After a long period of chase, the Germans had no other alternative but to commit to battle, which they did so gloriously.

The large but slower British ships were forced to give up the chase midway, and it was only the lighter and faster British destroyers and cruisers that took part in the skirmish. Artillery shells whistled loudly over the heads of frightened sailors, narrowly missing by often as close as a few feet. The brave Germans, however, gave the British navy a good thrashing! The lighter British ships could not withstand the fire of battle for a long time, and after taking a significant amount of damage the British fleet was forced to retire. The Germans had won!

By the end of the engagement, the German navy had suffered Minor damage, however the damage from the battle with the French was still not fixed, and so they had to retire as well. The British Fleet had suffered Moderate damage to their vessels, however all of the damage was done to the light ships of the Fleet who took part in the action.

The only real damage done at this battle, was damage to Britain's pride and legitimacy. Britannia did not rule the waves on this battle.

Russo-Balkan Offensive-Ongoing

This week, on the Eastern Front, it appears that the sleeping giant of Russia has finally been awoken, along with its Balkan "dogs of war"! Bulgarians, Greeks, Romanians, Serbians, and Russians all flood into the eastern frontiers of Austria-Hungary. A tidal wave of hostile men has hit the east of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and it seems that the Austrians have had enough.

Word has surfaced that the mighty Austrian army has once again taken up movement, some say to the east to meet the growing threat of a full-scale invasion. While the Austrians were not quick enough to give the invaders proper resistance on the front lines, the Austrian army now sits in a key position, keeping the armies of of the "Eastern Entente" in check. Whether this may work out in Austria-Hungary's favor still remains unknown.

Battle of Silesia-Poland- October 24th-30th

The Russians had free movement throughout Prussia for far too long. German land, German people, and most importantly, German Pride, was soiled with every step the Russians took deeper into the German Empire. Intent on stopping this unopposed advance, the German army mobilised and sallied forth to meet the Russians on the field.

A large German army marched on the occupied regions of Silesia, ready to go into full combat should the need arise. Fortunately for the Germans, Russian resistance was staunch however the Russian defenders withdrew after being almost overwhelmed many times by the German mass. As the Germans progressed deeper into occupied territory, they were met with stiffer and stiffer resistance. The assault ended with the German army taking a large amount of land back from the Russians, while the Russians acquiesced and withdrew into better fortified areas.

The total German casualties from the battle were 24 thousand men, while the Russians had lost 34 thousand men.

Battle for Alsace Lorraine=October 22-30th

Following their successes in the previous engagements for Alsace Lorraine, the French Armee De Midi, under the leadership of the famous Marshal Joffre, made a daring attack straight into the edge of Alsace-Lorraine in order to beat the Germans before they could rally.

The engagements started out normally, with artillery precipitating the battlefield before mass infantry assaults took place. The German defenders, bloodied and prepared from their previous battle with the same French army, held firmly against the spirited French attack. Rifles, machine guns, and artillery alike killed men in the hundreds, while the French, filled with patriotic fervor, charged headlong into the positions of the German machine guns. Despite taking many losses, the sheer force of the French attack was too much for the embattled German defenders, and they withdrew October 30th.

The victorious French pursued with caution, and slowly began to advance into German lands. The retreating Germans then regrouped and held their ground, this time deeper in their own territory than before. The French, seeing the German halt, held their ground as well.

And that is where the battle ended, with reinforcements rushing to both the Germans and the French while the French take great pride in this small but emotionally significant event for France. For the French, this is one step closer to reclaiming the land considered rightfully theirs, and is only the beginning of a great French victory and total annihilation of the German threat!

Total casualties for the Germans were 69 thousand, while the attacking French took only 24 thousand casualties.

Battles of the Picardy Salient - October 30th-Ongoing
(Note: due to the unusual circumstances of this battle, both France and Germany will learn of Trench Warfare at the beginning of November. (Both France and Germany rolled and upon adding modifiers, the battle was an exact stalemate of... 17 to 17. You guys rolled pretty awful.)

In Northern France, the French and Germans were preparing desperately for another round of fighting around the Marne. French reinforcements had also arrived to support thin parts of the defensive line, which extended it. The welcome arrival of the British Expeditionary Forces in the city of Calais was also a boon for the French, who were now on their way to support the French in Picardy.

The Germans began their preliminary attacks on the 30th of October, however their first preliminary attack was repulsed by the French machine guns and artillery. The French, attempting to capitalise on the German repulsion, fled their defensive positions and charged the fleeing Germans until they were put in check by similar Machine Gun and Artillery fire from the Germans!

The first assault continued like this for much of the day, with the French and Germans taking turns charging through the field in an effort to push the other back, but to no avail. The silly display was kept up until night fell upon the battlefield, where both sides took to rest due to exhaustion.

Both sides made literally no progress other than get a small number of men killed. However, both sides, acknowledging the power of machine guns and heavily fortified positions have taken to upgrading their positions beyond simple holes in the ground. Nay, it seems the French and Germans have just found another way to get themselves killed.

Welcome to Trench Warfare.

The French Republic

The French Republic congratulates its men for its victories over the Germans! We are happy that we are finally pushing into Alsace-Lorainne and liberating our rightful land, in the name of the French Republic!

The French Republic hereby announces the formation of two battalions, in the name of 'home defense'. The first one will be called the 'Scoutisme Bataillon' which will be a scouting battalion. It will consist of men from 14 to 16, and people who prove unfit to do their duty in the army but want to do their part during the war. These men will have to have a knowledge of riding horses.

The French Republic announces that the second battalion will be called the 'Bataillon de Milice' who will also consist of people who are too young to join the military or who are too unfit for the army. They will consist of people who cannot ride on horseback, but want to do their part in this war.

The French Republic

The French Republic will start researching hand grenades and asks the following nations to partake in quicker development of the technology:

- The Kingdom of Norway
- The Russian Empire
- The Kingdom of Switzerland
- The Kingdom of Belgium
- The Kingdom of Portugal

We hope that this will further increase the rate of research and improve technological advancements between all nations, and also increase the friendlyness between the nations.
