5th North Carolina 'New Bern Light Infantry' [NA]

The North Carolina 5th Infantry Regiment State Troops was organized at Halifax, North Carolina, in June and July 1861 with 12 companies A to M. Its companies were recruited in the counties of Cumberland, Gates, Johnston, Craven, Rowan, Betie, Wilson and Caswell. Companies L and M were transferred to the 32nd Regt. N. C. Infantry (S.T.) by S.O. 154, A&IGO, dated July 4, 1862, becoming (2nd) Co. K and (2nd) Co. I, respectively of that Regt.

Company ROSTERS:

Company A  - The Ellis Riflemen  many men from Cumberland County

Company B - The Gates Guards many men from Gates County

Company C -  The Ellis Guards many men from Johnston County

Company D - The New Bern Light Infantry many men from Craven County and Lenoir County

Company E   many men from Rowan County

Company F   many men from Bertie County

Company G  many men from Wilson County

Company H – Gates County many men from Gates County

Company I - The Gates County Minute Men many men from Caswell County

Company K - The Poplar Springs Grays many men from Rowan County
