Civil war history of the 8th

Spoiler
The 8th Virginia Infantry was raised at Leesburg, Virginia near Washington D.C. by Brigadier General Eppa Hunton (at the time was a colonel). The regiment was stationed in Loudoun and Leesburg to guard areas of the Potomac River, and then was moved to the battle of First Manassass, where they then returned to Loudoun. The regiment was then engaged in the Battle of Ball's Bluff in 1861, and then in 1862 the regiment left Loudoun to defend against Union forces in the Peninsula Campaign. After the Battle of Gaines Mill, Colonel Hunton started referring to his men as "The Bloody Eighth" because they would "Go against all odds no matter the cost". In the rest of 1862 the regiment was briefly put back into Leesburg and then participated in Second Manasass, and the Maryland Campaign. The regiment took part in the Battle of Gettysburg and Pickett's Charge. Afterwards they remained with Army of Northern Virginia and participated in the Overland Campaign, Richmond-Petersburg Campaign and Appomattax. Nearly all of the regiment was killed and captured at the Battle of Sayler's Creek, the remainders surrendered with Lee at the Appomattox Courthouse.

In-game regimental history

Spoiler
The 8th Virginia Infantry was created on February 15th 2015 by Brigadier General Fearsome Redneck, and Colonel Wubby after the 8th Alabama left the Dixieland Army and created the Longstreet Army Division. The 8th Virginia was the side of the regiment that stayed with the DA, which was pretty much all of the regiment except for some Privates and Brigadier General Hardcase. The regiment started with two companies, Company A "The Dirty Buffalos" Skirmishers led by Colonel Wubby and Company D "Heckenshutzen" Sharpshooters led by Brigadier General Fearsome. The regiment started out in the Bragg's Brigade in which Fearsome was the General of. The regiment then became the leader of the new Pickett's Brigade of the Dixieland Army which multiple other Virginia regiments went to. During early March the 7th South Carolina Infantry merged with the 8th Virginia Infantry and created Company F "Blue Mountain Boys" Infantry led by Kush4life. On August 1st 2015 changed their name to the 8th Alabama "Emerald Guard", the name their former regiment was called.
