Since their formation on 5th April 1755 Her Majesty's Marine Forces have been at the forefront of amphibious warfare. Having earned honours at the battle of Bunker Hill in the course of the American War of Independence, and the Battle of Bladensburg during the War of 1812, the scarlet tunics of the Royal Marines are no strangers to American shores. When war was declared upon the Union, it was only fitting then that Her Majesty's Marine Forces led the charge.
