First engaging in the battle of Cedar Mountain, the 22nd later found themselves in the second confrontation of Bull Run, and later the battle of Antietam. They also participated in the battle of Fredericksburg and the battle of Chancellorsville. Perhaps their most famous battle was in the battle of Gettysburg, and they had also participated in the Siege of Petersburg.
