Regiments / 223rd (Leeds) Field Company (Royal Engineers)
« on: August 12, 2015, 01:06:56 pm »

Regiment Description:

The 223rd (Leeds) Field Company, served with 31st Division. The units concentrated at South Camp, Ripon in April and May 1915. Training was difficult due to severe shortages of arms, ammunition and equipment. In September they moved to Fovant on Salisbury Plain for final training for service in France. Advance parties had already crossed the channel when the division was ordered to Egypt in December, accompanied by the artillery of 32nd Division in exchange for their own Divisional artillery. They sailed for Egypt in December and took over No 3 Sector of the Suez Canal. They were recalled to France and sailed to Marseilles during the first week of March for service on the Western Front. Their first action being the attack on Serre in on the 1st of July during The Battle the Somme. They were also in action during The Battle of the Ancre and in 1917 the Operations on the Ancre before moving north to Arras for The Third Battle of the Scarpe and The Capture of Oppy Wood. In 1918 they saw action in The Battle of St Quentin, The Battle of Bapaume, The First Battle of Arras, they moved north to Flanders and took part in The Battle of Estaires, The Battle of Hazebrouck, The Defence of Nieppe Forest and The attack at La Becque during the Battles of the Lys. During the Advance in Flanders they were involved in The capture of Vieux Berquin, and The action of Tieghem. They crossed the River Scheldt on the 9th of November and at the Armistice the forward units had reached Everbecque and the River Dender. They moved back to the Arques-Blendecques area and demobilization began.

Game Description

The 223rd will not be simply another regiment in Iron Europe. We will be an elite team of engineers who will know how to build the best defense, when to build the best defense and where to build the best defense! Each member will have training each week and will learn the codes behind how to build the best defense and bunkers. You will train along side fellow engineers and along side a well trained full regiment, giving you much experience. Engineers will work in teams of a minimum of two people. These teams will work alone of the field or will be assigned to squads in the WG or other regiments who require help. Each member will be in radio contact with me at all times as I advice them on what defense or assault structures need building. However, in many situations you will require to command yourself and know what the best base to build is!

For Rules and more information please visit my engineer guide.

Iron Europe / Royal Engineers Guide To The Engineer
« on: July 29, 2015, 02:17:23 am »
Royal Engineers Guide To The Engineer

Intro

The Engineer is one of the most useful classes to exist in Iron Europe. By himself the engineer can build fast bunkers that can give his regiment an edge but in a team of engineers you could change the entire layout of the map making it a death trap for the enemy team. This guide was produced to help train the Royal Engineer regiment in Iron Europe but it may be used by any regiments wanting to start an engineer section. This guide is only the basics and much of what is in this will make more sense to anyone trained in my regiment. The guide will go into the rules behind an engineer regiment, how an engineer might help, the structures an engineer might build and how an engineer is the most useful class for your team.

Section 1: Why an Engineer Regiment?

The engineer class is largely underused in Iron Europe. People perceive it as an NW Sapper and simply snuff it off. However, the engineer can single handedly win a game for any team. An example of this would be in a game of nearly 100 people. We were losing harshly and my squad, of about 7 people, had just flanked the enemy. Our Engineer built up a large defence of Iron and barbed wire as we knew the large mass of enemies was going to turn around and head straight for us. Due to the defence we held out and killed over half their team running in the open while we hid behind our makeshift walls. We won the game. This was one engineer! Imagine if an entire regiment of them was helping your team! This is where I also remind you that the engineer has a rifle. Although not as powerful as the standard rifle and engineer is in noway out of luck when it comes to sharp shooting. Two engineers who made their self a bunker can do large amounts of damage to an enemy team! These are just a few examples and stories to help you understand why I chose to make the Royal Engineers.

Section 2: Rules behind an Engineer Regiment

There has never been an engineer regiment in Iron Europe. This is why I have decided to write a standard set of rules for all engineer regiments in the future.

1. Engineers must never be alone.
2. There must be a minimum of two engineers if they are to leave spawn.
3. If an engineer is left alone they must find a safe squad immediately.
4. Always help out your fellow engineer and never build your own stuff alone.
5. Explosives must be used wisely and not for traps outside of trenches.
6. Always listen to the highest commanding engineer and build what they want where they want.
7. Engineers can exist in two forms.
A.They must be with a partner engineer (or more) to be a engineer squad that is then allowed to roam freely together following  commands.
B.Two Engineers are sent as mercenaries to another non engineer squad (doesn’t have to be    your regiment)
If in a squad listen to their commander unless told otherwise by your own commander.
8. Always stick to the blue prints unless in emergencies.
9. An engineer must put the team first and risk their life to build when ordered too.
10. Don’t spam props!
11. A engineer regiment has four main tasks on the field:
A. Be a normal squad but with better defense.
B. Build assaulting positions for your team in No mans Land.
C. Build and repair defensive positions for your team in their trench and No mans Land.
D. Breach and destroy enemy engineer defenses, barbed wire and walls.

Section 3: Blue Prints and tactics.

To make things easier for command a set number of Blue Prints have been created to allow for easier and faster building while on the field. Each of these is given a short name for your commander to call out.

Here Is the Key for the blue prints:

Bunkers: A Bunker is used for one or two men to hold a position. A Machine gunner would be best in one of these.

Light Bunker: fast and easy to build if only a few incoming enemies.

Spoiler

Medium Bunker: Good for capping a flag.

Spoiler
[close]

Heavy Bunker: Good for Machine guns and holding a flag.

Spoiler
[close]

Ladder wall: A ladder wall is a defensive wall in front of ladders to allow people to shoot from the trench and get out of the trench without fear of death.

Light Ladder wall: Fast to stop snipers.

Spoiler
[close]

Medium Ladder wall: Lets you fire from trench.

Spoiler

Heavy Ladder wall: Helps when enemies are in opposite trench.

Trench wall: A trench wall is a great way to defend a trench.

Light Trench wall: Stops early flanking caps.

Spoiler
[close]

Medium Trench wall: Slows down enemy caps.

Spoiler
[close]

Heavy Trench wall: They have no hope of getting in....

Spoiler

Iron Walkway: An Iron Walkway allows your team to safely move up or between trenches.

Spoiler
[close]

Trench: A trench is a engineer build trench to make it easy to move from point A to point B. The trench can be built up during a match by two engineers.

Light Trench: Slow to build but great cover when moving across no mans land.

Spoiler
[close]
Medium Trench: Stops enemies from using your trench.

Spoiler

[close]
Heavy Trench: best way to move entire squads around.

Spoiler
[close]

Base: A Base allows you to fully defend one or more squads to safely hold a position.

Light Base: Good for taking out incoming squad in open.

Spoiler

[close]
Medium Base: Good for capping and holding flag

Spoiler
[close]

Heavy Base: Great for holding a hot flag.

Spoiler
[close]

Explosive!: Explosives can be used in a number of ways.

Use to destroy your bunkers to stop the enemy from using them. This is done by placing an explosive at every corner. Also can be used on enemy structures.

Spoiler
[close]

Use explosives to brake barbed wire fast.

Spoiler
[close]

Use explosives to breach a wall.

Spoiler
[close]

Never use explosives as a weapon unless in a trench trap!

Trench traps: Trench traps let you build structures in trenches you know are about to be over run.

Iron Trap: This lets you trap them fully.

Spoiler
[close]

Spike Trap: Fast and slows them down

Spoiler
[close]

Sand Trap: Use for better cover in trenches

Spoiler
[close]

Explosive Trap: Place near ladders for most effect. When an enemy jumps into the trench they will have no way of getting out. Ignite the trap from behind an iron wall and run!

Spoiler
[close]

Remember that all of these tasks, in an Engineer regiment, would be done by 2-4 people so even a heavy base can be up in no time!

There is plenty more to learn but this requires experimentation. If you have any questions or would like to join the Royal Engineers IE regiment ask me on steam at: Lolman1c

Thanks for reading!

2. Building defense for trench networks

3. Building defense in No Mans land

4. Building bunkers for Machine Guns and Rifle Men

There are a few rules that every Engineer should obey:

1. Respect your commanding officer.

2. Follow orders from the highest rank on the field.

3. Do not move around unless with at least one friendly engineer (if your partner dies then find a squad to move with).

4. Unless told otherwise always follow the orders of the squad commander you are assigned to (if assigned).

5. Build things but do not spam props or explosives!

6. Make training at least ones every 2 weeks (if you are unavailable for longer then please contact me or a CO)

Iron Europe / Royal Engineers?
« on: July 28, 2015, 06:37:41 pm »
Hey I'm thinking of making an official Royal Engineers regiment for IE. The problem is, is that a lot of people treat Iron Europe like NW and never use the many available classes outside Rifle man, officer and arty. In the Royal Engineers you would be put under rigorous training using the engineer class. You will discover how useful the engineer is in IE, the fastest, most efficient and strongest mini basses to build and how engineers would be an overall benefit to the game.

The only problem is, is that this will not be an ordinary regiment. Much like the RE we will most likely not all be stood listening to a commander while stood in a line. The point of RE is to train the best of the best engineers for use in events.

We would:

Work together in siege maps to defend at all costs.
Split up into two men groups to set traps, defenses and assault positions.
Merc up with other regiments to build their defenses and keep them alive.
Do what engineers did in ww1!

This could get complicated so before I make the Royal Engineers does anyone have any thing to say, suggestions or just tell me if you would like to join?

Hello everyone! I am Lolman1c, one of the developers (mapper) for Iron Europe. I'm here to introduce the brand new Official IE Events Group as we would like to start organizing bigger and better events, within IE, to Stress Test servers in the run up to 2.0! (also to just have big fun events!) If any of you don't know what Iron Europe is, it's a ww1 modification that can best be described by this video showing off one of out new and improved maps!

Anyway! The New group is: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/official_IE

Remember to invite anyone/regiments wanting to play or have an interest in trying out an event in IE!

General Discussion / Hello Everyone!
« on: March 20, 2015, 09:30:51 pm »
Hello! I'm Lolman! I have been on this website for around 2 years and yet I have never actually said Hi! I post little as I tend to keep quite or never explore outside of the mods I am working with. But basically I was wondering if there was a section on this forums where people request help with mods or are trying to set up mod teams. I tend to some how end up in mod teams then, when the game is done, I just commission maps until I randomly end up in another team again. Although now I have the experience I was thinking about joining a team on a game/mod I'm really interested in seeing grow. At the moment I am in IE (Iron Europe) team and I love it but as a mapper I want to explore a few styles of games and I have a little more time for a few months now.

Iron Europe / What would you like in your maps?
« on: January 25, 2015, 02:19:58 am »
Hello everyone!

I make maps for IE (not the only one) and I have been playing around with some ideas for future maps once 2.0 comes out. However, after all my tests they just don't feel like they are unique to ww1 or the setting is wrong, ect... This is where I come to you guys and girls for suggestions! I have made many maps that I think will work but fail to take peoples interests when they play. So what would you like to see in a map? All this would be just suggestions and I can't promise anything will be made or won't be made but it would be interesting to see what people are starting to want from this game after playing it for so long now.
