Community / NA Line Only Linebattle???
« on: September 02, 2021, 03:39:02 pm »
Recently I have noticed a significant drop in NA event attendance, from regular Sunday sieges 80vs80 to now 25vs25 (including pubs) and mid-week events dropping in numbers also, despite not as much. As a result of this, many events have been forced into, at least the initial rounds, to run either no specs or half specs. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I have actually enjoyed the NA line only linebattles, and wanted to put it out to the rest of the NA community what their thoughts where and if they'd like to see a weekly line only event?

Just a thought, wanting to see others opinions, please let me know below  :D

Melee Tournament Groupfighting Idea - 6 Nations

I'm not sure if this has already happened, nor am i sure if something like this has been done before, yet it seems like a fun thing to do so my plan is to explain my idea here and see what the public's reaction is.

As many of you may be aware, there is a annual rugby tournament with 6 competing nations, France, Italy, Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland. Each team will have a chance to play every other team and the winner will be determined by who scores the most points throughout the season, with 2 points being awarded for a win and 1 point being awarded for a draw. In the 6 nations rules, if two or more teams finish the season with the same number of points, the winner is decided on the match points difference however in NW, this could be done by a final match between the two teams.

So, my idea is to have a melee groupfighting tournament with the nations who play in 6 nations to play in this tournament. The teams would initially be 7v7 or 10v10 i havn't had much thought upon it, on the 6 Nations team sizes are of 15 people, but some smaller teams such as Ireland which has faced criticism for having non-irish sign up in an attempt to fill enough players/better skill and hence i think a smaller team would be better.

This is just an idea i've had, nothings been decided on and it is purely for the community to give feedback to, i understand there currently is a NWWC tournament taking place so if this tournament was to take place then it would happen after NWWC to ensure there are no conflicting dates/interests.

As i have said, this is an idea, if anyone is wishing to add to it or to make suggestions then you're more than welcome to and i would be happy to make changes.

History of the Iron Division

Napoleonic Wars
The 3rd (UK) Division is the only division at continual operational readiness in the United Kingdom. Based in Bulford, Wiltshire, England, the Division is made up 1st Mechanized Brigade, 4th Mechanized Brigade, 12th Mechanized Brigade, and 19th Light Brigade. It is also supported by the 101st Logistic Brigade, technically assigned to Headquarters, Theater Troops, as well as its own divisional troops.

On 2 July 1809, the 3rd Division was formed tactically on the frontier of Portugal and Spain. This was part of developments in the early years of the Peninsular War, when the future Duke of Wellington decided to adopt, for the first time in the British Army, a permanent divisional structure to help him combat the French. By the winter of 1811, the 3rd Division was generally known by the nickname 'The Fighting Division', since it always seemed to be in action against the French enemy. Between 1809 and 1815, the 3rd Division took part in the following battles: Talavera on 28 July 1809, Bussaco on 27 September 1810, Torres Vedras during Winter 1810-1811, Sabugal on 3 April 1811, Fuentes D'Onoro on 5 May 1811, Cuidad Rodrigo on 19 January 1812, Badajoz on 6 April 1812, Salamanca on 22 July 1812, Burgos between September and October 1812, Vittoria on 21 June 1813, Pyrenees on 30 July 1813, Quatre Bras on 16-17 July 1815, and Waterloo on 18 July 1815.

Other Conflicts
The 3rd Division, along with the rest of the British Army, had a rather uninspired campaign in the Crimea between 1854 and 1855. The Division participated in 3 battles during the conflict: Alma on 20 September 1854, Inkerman on 5 November 1854, and Sebastopol during 1854-1855.The 3rd Division deployed to southern Africa to participate in the Boer War between 1899 and 1900. During that conflict, the Division participated in another 3 battles: Stormberg on 10 December 1899, the advance into the Orange Free State on 12 March 1900, and Reddersburg on 3 April 1900.

The 3rd Division deployed to France during the Great War and it was during that war that the Third Division's gained the nickname 'The Iron Division'. During the Great War, the Division was present at numerous battles, including Mons in 1914, Ypres in 1915, the Somme in 1916, Arras in 1917, and was finally part of the occupation force of the Rhineland during 1918 and 1919.

The Division's participation in the Second World War had 2 distinct phases. Firstly it was part of the British Expeditionary Force to France to stem the German advance, but having fought hard yet ultimately unsuccessfully, it was evacuated from Dunkirk in 1940. The Division went on to lead the assault on Sword Beach on the coast of Normandy, France on D-Day. The Division participated in the fighting around Caen during the breakout from the beachhead. After the landing and the breakout, the Division continued fighting as part of 21st Army Group across northern Europe. It went on to participate in Operation Goodwood and Operation Market Garden. The Division ended the war with fighting in the Rhineland in Germany in 1945.

In 1978, what had become the 3rd (UK) Armoured Division had moved to Korbecke on the Mohnesee in the Federal Republic of Germany to become part of the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) with 3 armoured brigades, the 4th, 6th, and 33rd Armoured Brigades. There it remained until the decision was made following the fall of the Soviet Union in 1990 to dramatically reduce the size of the BAOR. The unit was subsequently restructured to a mechanized division and relocated to Bulford, Wiltshire, England. The Division was deployed as part of peacekeeping missions in Bosnia and Kosovo in the 1990s and as a headquarters to Kabul, Afghanistan in 2001. The Division headquarters was also deployed to Iraq in 2003, 2006, and 2008.

If you would like more Information on the 3rd Division 'The Iron Division' then add the following on steam

The regiment was formed by General A. M. Golovin on June 25th, 1700. It initally started out with 200 soldiers in 1308 and merged with the Lefortovskago regiment recruits and was later comprised by 10 companies and an artillery command called infantry Ivanitsky Regiment.

The regiment received its baptism by fire on the 19th of November 1700 at Narva, which the regiment had lost it's commanding officer and more than a 1/3 of it's infantry. After the defeat at Narva, the Infantry Regiment was named the Bordovika Regiment and was appointed to the army of Sheremetev. The following year the regiment grew in the Pechora Monastery and then took part in the construction of St. Petersburg. On May 30th 1704, the regiment became part of the siege of Narva and on 9th August, took part in the storming of the fortress.
In 1704, the regiment formed a Grenadier company, and it was renamed on October 12th, 1704 by Infantry Field Marshal Ogilvie , and in 1707 to Infantry Regiment Vries. March 10, 1708, the regiment received the name of the Moscow Infantry Regiment.
Napoleonic wars - for that period, the regiment was renamed to "moskovsky Musketeersky polk". Among other smaller battles, they heroicly participated in Durnsteins battle, capturing the flag of the enemy, but losing a lot of soldiers and officers.
During Napoleons invasion, they were in the 1st western army, in Vittgenstein's division. They took part in Borodino battle (main battle, at least by russian sources) also, they were heroically distinguished in the siege of Brienne-le-Château. In later battles they took part in le ferte sur juar, monmirale and kraone.
In the 65y, we do not aim to be the best, we don't aim to be the most rememberable or the most skilled, however we aim to make the most out of the community and have fun.

45th Regiment of Arty and Line

The 45th Regiment was raised in 1741 as Houghton's Regiment, for service during the War of the Austrian Succession and Warbuton's Regiment during Father Le Loutre's War and the French and Indian War. It was first posted to Gibraltar in 1745, before moving to Nova Scotia in 1747 for garrison duty. In 1758 the regiment fought in the Siege of Louisburg. which became the regiments first battle honour.

From 1774 the regiment was in action in North America during the American War of Independence, fighting in the battles of Long Island, Philadelphia, Brandywine Creek and Germantown. In 1783 they returned home to Nottingham, where the citizens petitioned for the regiment to be named "the Nottinghamshire regiment". This was granted the same year, becoming the 45th (1st Nottinghamshire) Regiment.

The regiment returned to the Americas in 1786, spending the next 16 years, with one break, in the West Indies. During this time they saw action against the French as part of the French Revolutionary Wars, at Martinique, Dominica and Les Saintes.

After an expedition to South America in 1807, fighting at Buenos Aires, the 45th returned to Britain, to take part in Wellington's Peninsular campaign. In this they fought in every major action, winning the nickname "Old Stubborns" at Talavera, and being commended at Busaco and Badajoz.

Following the end of the Napoleonic Wars the Nottinghamshires served in a series of colonial campaigns. In 1819 they were in Ceylon, and in 1824 in the First Burma War. In 1843 they were in South Africa for the First Kaffir War, and in 1851 for the Second. In 1867, now called the 45th Nottinghamshire Regiment (Sherwood Foresters), they took part in the Abyssinian campaign.
