Regimental
One of the oldest and most famous regiments of the Russian Imperial Army.
The regiment traces its origins back to 1726 from the Tenghinka Regiment.
In 1796, two battalions and two companies of the Moscow Grenadier Regiment became the basis for the Pavlovsk Grenadier Regiment.
The regiment faced a glorious destiny, and numerous distinguished services during the wars against Napoleonic France.
The regiment distinguished itself in the battles of Charnove, Narva, Pultusk, and at the Battle of Eylau.
In the war of 1812, the Pavlovsky Grenadier Regiment, or rather its 2nd battalion, acted in defense of St. Petersburg against the French.
For participation in the War of 1812, it was given battle honors and the Order of Alexander.
The First of April 13, 1813 Pavlovsky Grenadier Regiment was attached to the Imperial Guard.

The Imperial Guard
The Russian Imperial Guard, officially known as the Leib Guard (Russian: Лейб-гвардия leyb-gvardiya, from German Leib "Life"; cf. Life Guards / Bodyguard) were military units serving as personal guards of the Emperor of Russia. Peter the Great founded the first such units following the Prussian practice in the 1690s, to replace the politically motivated Streltsy. The Imperial Guard subsequently increased in size and diversity to become an elite corps of all branches within the Imperial Army rather than Household troops in direct attendance on the Tsar. Numerous links were however maintained with the Imperial family and the bulk of the regiments of the Imperial Guard were stationed in and around Saint Petersburg in peacetime.
