Unofficial Power Rankings

Disclaimer: I must admit I got quite hyped by this event and I am very much looking forward to playing it tonight. I figured out I could maybe use that interest to work-out a personal power-ranking feature and keep most of us entertained till the start. Please do consider that this a fake-hype king branded material and that I, therefore, cannot promise I will get each nation covered by the time the event begins. I will try my best, but eventually, there are more than twenty teams to be included, it's a lot of work to go through, and I just started this morning. Also worth keeping in mind that I do not know every nations' background as good as my own and that some inaccuracies will likely be present. Thank you in advance to the people kind enough to point them out to me without being disagreeable. Last but not least, these are my personal opinions of each team's potential in this event and by no mean the community or organizer view.

The idea is not to put this forward as the holy word but rather to create an interesting, intelligent, argumented and back and forth discussion about each team's potential for this event.

To start off, let's take a look at our five underdog teams, Greece, Balkans, Spain 2, Belgium & Austria / Switzerland.

Ranked - 20th | Greece hasn't exactly made itself a reputation of a dangerous competitive nation throughout the years and therefore, it is hard to fit them anywhere else but in the Underdogs category. Nevertheless, its presence in tournaments per countries isn't exactly new either as it seems Aleko has been leading his men since pretty much forever. For a fact, you can find him as the second in command of the Greek team, five years ago, in the M-NWWC 2015. The regular presence of Greece in NWWC editions (and the likes) is telling of a distinct yet rather praise-worthy mentality. Their players have always attended these events as a way to represent their country while being aware that it would be hard to for them to outperform most of the opponents they would face. Such a reality never seemed to bother them however and events after events, Greece kept signing-up a team, and its players set their hearts on displaying the highest level of fair play and maturity, at all times. This attitude made the Greek squad one of the most civilized nations to have in a tournament and without a doubt one of the most enjoyable opponents to fight. Once you said that, being ranked 20th doesn't seem like such a big deal anymore.

Ranked - 19th | To understand the Balkan's team background, one must acknowledge that this coalition was pretty much always active on NW, but with its countries sometimes playing on their own. For instance, this edition of the Balkan team is pretty much a Serbian captain, MightyPain, leading a mixed Bulgarian and Romanian roster. During previous similar events, the Balkans team was spotted once in 2015, under entirely different leadership. Since then, it has mostly been about the Bulgarians playing on their own, as they were one of the most active and competitive communities from that region. In 2018, MightyPain was leading a team, but it was the Serbian national team, not the Balkans coalition and though he made an alliance in 2019 for the M-NWWC, it was with Romania only this time, not Bulgaria. The Balkans team as we currently know it found its foundations only recently, with a presence in NWWC20 under the same leadership and with a similar roster. This little synergy that players such as Yovko, Regulation, Mech and Frankie developed early this year coupled with the return of old members such as Tod could be an advantage against other Underdog teams. Nevertheless, Balkan's turbulent history on NW has always made for equally chaotic results, and it's hard to imagine that it will change for this ENWC, putting them at the 19th place on our power rankings.

Ranked - 18th | For this ENWC, Spain 2 doesn't have much in common with the previous edition spotted in the NWWC20, some months ago, except maybe its captain Retamar who continues to answer the call of bringing a second wave of Spaniards to the front of national competitive events. Beside him and Antonio, the team has been wholly renewed. Legendary native captain and infantry Charlini saw his recent involvement on NW pays off as he was promoted to Spain 1. However, in term of other competitive, experienced players, Retamar can still count on the likes of Ecthelion and TigreBlanco. They will both be expected to put high numbers on the board if Spain 2 wants to progress further than the group stage. Most of the squad is 19th material, but it's worth noting that a couple of members also belong to the 1a Division del Norte, such as the Brigade's leader, ChatNoir. Though this team can probably put a fair fight against the other underdogs and maybe a couple of the mid-tier teams, they will still find themselves quickly limited when it comes strictly to firepower, explaining their 18th spot in the rankings.

Ranked - 17th | The Belgium team is by no mean made of bad or inexperienced players, and eventually, ranking them 17th could be seen as a vast understatement, reasonably so. This can be explained, however, by the fact that Belgium still lacks at least one notable figure capable of carrying them against most of the mid-tier team. Their captain Barro is by far their most skilled and experienced player and has been stepping up a lot in recent years. Yet in the grand scheme of things, the task of carrying his team against mid-tier opponents such as Russia or Turkey seems inevitably too huge. Though the rest of the group is also quite stable, the mid-tier nations offer much more reliability than what Belgium can pretend to, at least on paper. The recent addition of Stanley, a pure product of the 14e's training grounds, could yet appear as one of these twitching elements in favour of Belgium. He has been performing quite well through his time among FP and had a couple of reliable performance during the RGL as well. It will be now up to him and his other Belgian comrades to prove me wrong and outperform some of these mid-tier teams, which, it has to be said, certainly looks within the realm of possibilities.

Ranked - 16th | With within their ranks the likes of DarkTemplar, 2Lr's best player in the RGL7, Gull, who just recently won the last 6v6 GF tournament to date with Super Saiyans, and Eddard, who has been an ever-constant player for the 15thYR, you could imagine Austria & Switzerland spot in the mid-tier to be assured. In that sense, this team is a similar position than Belgium as they can pose a legitimate threat to most of the mid-tier teams. Eventually, however, their biggest drawback comes from the considerable gap present between the aforementioned player, and the rest of the line-up. Though such a gap can be closed, it doesn't happen overnight and the preparation time might be a bit too short for the Austro-Swiss coalition to hope for reliable results. In a format where most matches will be played out in FT5, chances are some of their newest / less experienced players go missing. And despite Gull and DarkTemplar capacities to single handly carry a match, the skill-power being spread much more evenly in most of the mid-tier line-ups might prove too hard to handle. Especially since the presence of said players on the field will automatically force any opponent to focus and consider this team as a legitimate threat, making any form of upsets unlikely. The Austria & Switzerland coalition, therefore, takes the 16th place in the rankings.
