74th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment
History










The volunteer regiment was recruited during August and September 1861, primarily of recent German immigrants and descendants of Germans. It was officially mustered into service in mid-September as the 35th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment at Camp Wilkens, near Pittsburgh. On September 22, the 35th was posted to Washington, D.C. However, due to internal intrigue arising while its first colonel, Alexander Schimmelfennig, was ill, it was to lose that designation, and its men were in a state of limbo until Pittsburgh and Philadelphia interests convinced the U.S. War Department to reinstate the colonel. The regiment was then redesignated as the 74th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment, but its men and its communities knew it as "The German Regiment" or the "1st German Regiment."


Its first significant battle was at Cross Keys. The 74th was on the far left of the Union line, where it was engaged in a heated battle in the latter part of the day. Six men were killed and another thirteen were wounded. Its second battle was at Freeman's Ford, when Schimmelfennig advanced the regiment into the rear column of the Confederate forces. The enemy turned its full force on the regiment forced the 74th to retreat. 12 men were killed, 37 were wounded, and 3 drowned trying to cross the river and get back within Union lines. An additional 16 men were missing. It was here that Brig. Gen. Henry Bohlen was killed. Colonel Schimmelfennig was eventually promoted to take his place.

In the following days, the regiment participated in the battles of Sulphur Springs and Waterloo Bridge before joining the Army of the Potomac for the Northern Virginia Campaign. It participated in heated fighting at Second Bull Run. When the regiment returned to the Washington D.C. area, its command changed. Maj. Adolph von Hartung was promoted to colonel and commander of the regiment, which was stationed near Stafford Court House. There, some of its men who took ill were treated at the XI Corps Reserve Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia. (Today this historic building, complete with Union soldier graffiti on the walls, is known as Blenheim House. Four members of the 74th wrote on the walls of this house.

During the early stages of the Battle of Chancellorsville in May, the 74th was among the XI Corps troops that were surprised in camp by the furious flank attack of Jackson's Corps. Another retreat occurred at Gettysburg, where the regiment was pushed through the streets to Cemetery Hill when the brigade retired.[4] Of 381 officers and men, the 74th lost 10 killed, 40 wounded, 60 captured or missing.[5]

With the rest of Schimmelfennig's depleted brigade, soon after Gettysburg, the 74th was permanently transferred from the Army of the Potomac to South Carolina, where it saw action in several fights in the swamplands during operations to take Charleston. We got to shoot Rockets at Charleston
The 74th Pennsylvanian Volunteer Regiment saw its most notable battle at Gettysburg where it would lose most of its men, be routed, and have a commander found guilty of cowardice.

Why did we choose this regiment ? They are not famous, they didn't do anything heroic, just some guys who got there asses kicked, and that is perfect for us because we don't need to pretend to be the Stonewall or Irish Brigade were just the 74thPA a regiment almost no one has heard of.

I am a elite member of Evil Arty, since I was born i was trained to snipe regiments with artillery only needing a single thing of case shot to wipe out whole lines. By the time I was 8 I already mastered the Buck & Ball shot by the age of 12 I could shoot over a hill at 300 meters and spawn kill a whole line, by the time I was 17 I was the 2nd most feared arty player in Bcof, you can try touching artillery but you will never be able to touch my glory in bcof you sub prime artilley man.

it was sometime in the summer of the 1864 when we first heard of the chungus hoards.Always a massive one would appear it never attacked it just stared with a creepy smile on its face knowing that you were living your final moments. Then the small ones would attack at night often attacking unprepared incampments didn't care if you were were a Yanke or you were from Dixie or just a civilian trying to avoid the war. They would come in massive numbers and as they ran up and down the hills of Missouri you would hear a laugh to be described as the laugh of the demons who serve the devil himself. Not much is known after that since the only things found after the attack is a pentagram made of intestines with a pile of hearts in the middle.

Hey there,
Battle Cry of Freedom will be participating in the Steam Weeklong Deal from the 29th August till the 5th September. The game will be 40% off during that time.
Additionally, from the 26th August till the 30th August we will be running a 45% sale on GreenManGaming (https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/battle-cry-of-freedom-pc/) during which the game will appear on their Front Page.

What is important to note is that both the GreenManGaming front page slot and the Weeklong Deal have the potential to generate renewed traffic to our Store Page. Additionally, any sale on Steam will send an email to all 80.000 people that have currently wishlisted our game.
The way the Steam algorithm works is, the more sales- the more visits to the Store Page- the more people watching the Live-Stream- the more positive reviews in a short amount of time- the more likely the game is to appear on the front page of Steam.
I am sure I don't have to tell anyone that Front Page coverage is extremely important, it is the single largest means to get new users.

As such, as it is in everyone's interest, I would like to ask for your help. Here is what you can do:

1.) On the 26th till 30th August, please try to push the Steam Store Page to the Front Page by doing the following:
          - Enlist your Regiment Members to simply "seed" the Store Page. Open it in your browser or Steam Application, mute the Live-Stream and just sit there to raise the number of users on the Store Page.
          - Enlist your Regiment Members to leave as many positive reviews as possible. (DO NOT Mark them as "Received for Free"). You can already start adding a few reviews prior to the 26th, to "get it going", but the majority of reviews should drop during the sale. Reviews don't have to be well written. Just writing "Nice" is all that is needed.
2.) If you can, leave positive reviews on the GreenManGaming Website. (https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/battle-cry-of-freedom-pc/)
3.) From the 26th August till 5th September, try to seed the in-game Servers as much as possible and tell your members to just hop on and play for as long and as often as they can. It is extremely important to get the player-numbers up, so that new players will not leave immedietly.
4.) AFK-Seed the Servers. Just sit on one of the public Servers, in spectator or wherever, and seed them. This will push player numbers up, making it more likely for players to join the Server.
    I suggest to lower volume to 0, put the game in windowed mode, graphics quality to Awful and set FPS limit to 5. Then scale the window size down to as small as possible. This way your PC does not run hot or use much power, so you can easily just run the game all night and day, even while doing other tasks. (edited)
5.) Post as many screenshots and videos as you can. Post them on Steam, Youtube, Tik-Tok, our Discord, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Forums. All it needs is one post to blow up and go viral.
6.) Invite all your members to participate in this, invite all your friends, invite other regiments from other communities, just get the number of players high.
7.) Snatch up any new players you can find and recruit them into your regiment :).

The most important dates are the 26th and the 29th, with the 29th possibly being more important, as Steam Internal Traffic is extremely important.

Now, I do not expect this sale to revive the game long-term. (Though it can happen by pure chance, I have seen it happen with other games) However, at the very least, this will hopefully get you guys a good number of fresh recruits, which should help you survive through "the long night" until the patch drops.
