The funny thing is that here, Dutch groups are expected to keep to Dutch safety rules while visiting French groups can do what they like.

They can't have had any impalings yet, otherwise there's no way anyone would stand opposite them

21e only fixes bayonets at events on the continent, unless theres a genuine fear for safety such as in a huge battle like Leipzig, I think we un fixed bayonets after a while if memory serves. We don't fix bayonets in the UK usually except on a few times, some British units fix bayonets sometimes. I think as long as you're sensible with a bayonet and know to always raise the musket as you close in then its fine. Always good to keep safety in mind at all times, particularly cos it adds weight to the musket, so for example at Leipzig people were furious because they were marching ages with backpacks and bayonets fixed.

I'd fi bayonet when on guard duty or patrolling about camp, looks fookin' sexeh.

Bayonets are a problem in melee, but they are by far not as big of a problem as someone reloading with ramrods. I really don't want to imagine what happens if someone shoots this thing and it ends up flying straight at someone else. Chances that it will kill someone if it hits the right spot are extremely high.

Unless you stab with your bayonet, the worst thing that can happen is someone loosing an eye or some smaller wounds from poking. (Both, especially first is still really bad)
In melee, most of the time people just push with their muskets, no one is really stabbing.
Obviously someone can forget about safety and accidentally stab someone else in the belly.

Anyway, what I wanted to say is, that I feel more uncomfortable if there is a group using ramrods during the battle, than if there is a group with bayonets. It is also much easier to avoid the groups with bayonets. When they charge in, you retreat, and you just do not charge them yourself. But there is nothing you can do about a ramrod flying straight for your head.

I've heard stories of a cannon firing a ramrod at Borodino in 2012.

Yeah, bayonets can work if done right, ramrods are irresponsible unless in a firing display with no one down range

So do bayonets actually have points on them?

The spearheads we use are like this

Nice and safe, but still hurt like hell when some untrained Normannis pillock jabs it into your groin.

Bayonets can have quite a pointy end to them yes...

And I still think their very dangerous, In leipzig last year someone tripped and let his musket drop, during a retreat, a guy almost walked straight into it as it fell his direction.

There is no need for pointy things on the field in my opinion.

Honestly I don't mind the bayonets and ramrods. I'm making fun of the ACW safety nuts.
