ABOUT THE 5th DIVISION OF THE SPANISH CENTRAL ARMYThe 5th Division of the Spanish Central Army was founded the 13th of March 2014. The original regiment was the Hispanic Regiment which was created the 12th of May 2012. A year later, due to several important changes, the regiment was renamed to Guardia de Honor Hispana "Blas de Lezo" (GH). During this period, the regiment experienced a significant growth. Thanks to this, the regiment became an army with four detachments: 1er Regimiento de Infantería "Blas de Lezo", 1ra División de Artillería "Almas de Hierro", 3er Regimiento de Cazadores Aragoneses, 1ra Escuadra de Caballería "Tres Reyes".
However, the lack of events variety, the boredom of the members with the game and some unfortunate administrative decisions makes the army nearly disappear. The four regiments were combined in two companies. The new GH administration wanted to achieve a greater historical accuracy, so the army was renamed again to a historical army that fought in the Spanish Independence War against the 1st French Empire, the 5th Division of the Central Army.
Since then, we have grown dramatically, our leadership has been restructured, our events have been revised and we have achieved a great number of services that have made us probably the biggest Spanish Napoleonic Wars regiment.
In the day of the God 15th of January 2015, the 5th Division has marged with the EHA (Ejército Hispano-Americano) making us the biggest Spanish Army in Napoleonic Wars.
THE SPANISH INDEPENDENCE WAR / THE PENINSULAR WARThe Peninsular War (1807–1814) was a military conflict between the First French Empire and the allied powers of the Spanish Empire, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and the Kingdom of Portugal for control of the Iberian Peninsula during the Napoleonic Wars. The war started when French and Spanish armies occupied Portugal in 1807, and escalated in 1808 when France turned on Spain, its ally until then. The war on the peninsula lasted until the Sixth Coalition defeated Napoleon in 1814, and is regarded as one of the first wars of national liberation, significant for the emergence of large-scale guerrilla warfare.
The Peninsular War overlaps with what the Spanish-speaking world calls the Guerra de la Independencia Española (Spanish War of Independence), which began with the Dos de Mayo Uprising on 2 May 1808 and ended on 17 April 1814. The French occupation destroyed the Spanish administration, which fragmented into quarrelling provincial juntas. In 1810, a reconstituted national government, the Cádiz Cortes—effectively a government-in-exile—fortified itself in Cádiz but could not raise effective armies because it was besieged by 70,000 French troops. British and Portuguese forces eventually secured Portugal, using it as a safe position from which to launch campaigns against the French army and to provide whatever supplies they could get to the Spanish, while the Spanish armies and guerrillas tied down vast numbers of Napoleon's troops. These combined regular and irregular allied forces prevented Napoleon's marshals from subduing the rebellious Spanish provinces by restricting French control of territory and the war continued through years of stalemate.
