The Mess Hall / Shit My Therapist Says...
« on: November 04, 2013, 05:31:25 am »
If you do or don't, say what your therapist has or would have said if you are or would be a client of him/her. Then the next person below needs to say to the person above if that's an accurate prognosis.

I'll go first:
You're fucked

So basically, I am trying to write a fantasy novel. Tolkien served during WWI and the parallels between Middle-Earth and WWI can be seen at times. George R.R. Martin based his "A Song of Ice and Fire" books off of the War of the Roses loosely. So I want to do the same thing except with the 30 Years War. I plan to make mine more Martin-like in the fact that I am reducing the amount of mythical creatures except for a few which won't come around until later. While I know the basics and the type of warfare of the era, going through the American school system, I know little of the war itself and some maybe more obscure yet important figures. I know somethings Wallenstein, Adolphus, the Battle of Lutzen, etc. The rest is kind of up in the air. I know you may be asking: "Dude...Internet...use it". I plan to but that information can also be very basic. I do know that this thread has a stronger EU community than a NA one and I also know that the 30 Years War is a very crucial part of European History which is why I want to ask here where there are people who have grown up around this conflict geographically.
What I'd like to know/how you can help:
-Any links to books, movies, documentaries or websites that give an idea to the warfare of the period so that I can effectively describe battle scenes and armor/equipment.
-Any info or sources that describe the personalities of major figures like Wallenstein, Adolphus, Cromwell and any other figures from Russia, France, Spain and Italy.
-Obscure yet important figures
What's in it for me?
-My love
-My thanks
-You did a good deed
-I put "Thanks to all the Flying Squirrel Entertainment forum members" in my inspiration and thanks :D :P

Thanks for all your help, love, support and general awesomeness FSE community!

UPDATE:

I will start posting sneak peeks as I write as well as any other lore and extras I can offer.
All writing and art is created by me unless I say otherwise.

Off Topic / GodlessGaming's Official YouTube Channel
« on: November 01, 2013, 08:02:44 pm »
GodlessGaming is a channel created by Noah Toth on November 25th, 2010. Starting with simple vlogs, the channel has grow over three years to play thrus, clan plays, reviews, and machinima. Most videos from the early days have been deleted due to my fervent self-loathing and low self-esteem. The channel hopes to feature more podcasts, short comedy skits and in a few months, stand-up comedy!

This channel is not cereal and we just like to have fun with offensive humors a such. Enjoy.

From the creator of the Politics Thread and Scientific Ejaculation Thread comes the next thread that thrives off controversy. Welcome to the...

The Nonbelievers Thread!

This is a home for secularists, atheists and agnostics. People who just can't seem to believe or even know if there's a creator. But before we get started on one of the biggest questions of our lifetime, let's establish some ground rules.

Rules
  • No blatant disrespect towards one's beliefs. (E.x. "You believe in God, you're stupid. LOL")
  • Keep it nice once again. Nothing that the FSE moderators could see as reason to shut this thread down
  • Memes, GiFs and other funny stuff is allowed but it cannot be mean.

Every week I will ask a question and you will answer. If I don't ask a question one week, just keep the certain topic going or make a question by yourself. Enjoy!

This week's question is:
Is there a God?

To any FSE moderator thinking of locking this
Spoiler
The conversation will remain civil and this is not suppressing anyone's religious opinion as it does not aim to offend said people in question. Tolerance will be upheld and unless questioning something can be seen as intolerance nowadays, then I guess this thread should be locked.

The Mess Hall / Crash Course Science and History Videos
« on: October 22, 2013, 10:41:52 pm »
Crash Course is an independently produced show that involves science or US/World History. Their "anchor" John Green is very charming and funny and the show itself is very informative and is able to condense such broad subjects into 10-15 minutes very nicely. Here is their channel, I recommend checking them out.

Too lazy to click and search on that? Here's my favorite video

Clans / [All Games]The Sandwich Boys
« on: October 18, 2013, 12:15:17 am »

Wot is this?
Awhile ago, a friend of mine named Fallon and I started gaming together. He was a ranker in my old NW regiment and we got to talking and playing games together. It was later that we started making videos out of this and started posting them on my channel. We don't get a lot of views (few dozen) but we just do it for fun. When the PayDay 2 Beta came out, we started playing that together and that was OUR FIRST play together. It was about 1 hour and 30 minutes. It was during the PayDay 2 Beta that I formed a random channel in Teamspeak for us to play in called the "Sandwich Socialists" and when more people started to play with us, it was renamed the "Sandwich Boys". Everyone was a cold cut or other part of a big, united sandwich. Since then, we've done a few more videos and have started a podcast. I have decided to see if we can get anymore funny and eager people to join us in play throughs and to hang out.
Can I join?
Not right away. Keep in mind, I'm not trying to make a large clan out of this. I don't need bodies, I need personalities. You are more than welcome to join but it depends on a few things. Do Fallon and I like you?  Is your microphone audible and can be understood when I start recording? Will you be relatively active around our Teamspeak? Will you subscribe to the channel? Are you a pretty funny guy? Now you might be asking: "Isn't funny a broad term? What is considered being funny?". If you watch the videos, most of the humor is offensive and we are perfectly fine with that as long as we can avoid the repeated use of racial slurs. Racial jokes and slurs can be funny but in sporadic use, not when their dropped every other minute. Your personality is your personality, we won't make you change it. The same goes for your humor.
Jesus! I read that wall of text. Now can I join?
No, not yet. Even if Fallon and I like you during our meet, there are not guarantees that you will be accepted right away. We will play a few games together and see how we clique as a group. This is crucial to a video as there can't be passive aggressive tones or hatred towards one another while we're playing. Why are we being so picky? Because we are not choosing you for your ability, presence or discipline like any other clan. We are choosing you for your people-skills and your personality. Finding that out tends to be a longer process than just joining.
That was gey, now what games do you play?
Here's a list (it will be updated with new games Fallon and I buy or are planning to buy)

The Mess Hall / Scientific Ejaculation Thread
« on: October 15, 2013, 05:22:13 am »
It was only a matter of time. There's an American Circle Jerk thread (kisses Millander), a Politics Thread (kisses me) and a Church of the FSM (kisses David). Now its time for a scientific ejaculation thread. Discuss all matters of science. Biology (personal favorite), chemistry, atronomy, etc. This doesn't have to be serious. Post funny meme, gifs and articles if it suits you. If your a creationist, get the hell out of here.

Hey guys. The point of this thread is to post your YouTube channel if you have one in order to help out YouTubers who are not popular and maybe make some fans in the process. Refrain from posting the channels of well known and pretty popular guys here*.

You are more than welcome to help out a YouTuber friend and do this.

*To be considered popular, the video views have to be in the hundreds of thousands.

The Mess Hall / Thoughts on the movie Gods and Generals
« on: August 18, 2013, 06:40:45 am »
I will simply dive into it and assume you've watched the movie. I had mixed thoughts on this movie. On the one hand, it remained highly accurate historically and displayed the tactics, bloodshed and characteristics of the generals wonderfully. On the other hand, I hated the way it depicted the union. It made the union seem like a some kind of faceless enemy except the one exception of Jeff Daniels as Chamberlain (an actor whom I love). But for the most part, the union is shown as this bloodthirsty, emotionless and robotic character. There is little uniqueness and humanity shown in the Union soldiers and their fears are not as dug into as that of the Confedrates (Chamberlain being the exception). Union politicians and generals are shown as simple characters with less emotion than that of the gallant "southern gentlemen". Another issue I had was the neglect that race and slavery played in the war. There is a lack of racist rebels and officers. While rights had its part in the war, the main cause is constantly known to be slavery. There doesn't have to be constant racism and slaves involved but a few mentions to maybe make the film not look so one sided (which it does tend to be).

What were your thoughts on G&G?
