« on: January 17, 2015, 02:52:46 pm »

Nords Invade Swadia

King summons all banners to defend the nation

With Nord forces invading Swadia, His Royal Highness has summoned all his forces to defend the nation and repel the invaders. Reports are coming in that huge armies are making their way through the pass at Jelbegi. Meanwhile, hundreds of refugees have been making the arduous trip to safety following attacks on local villages.

The King has called for all available units to assist.

That's where you come in....

NordInvasion is a mod for the popular TaleWorlds game, Mount & Blade: Warband and it sees you take up arms with players from around the world in a bid to fight off waves after wave of the Nord armies as they seek to destroy Swadia.

With a huge environment of maps and persistent characters, NordInvasion is one of the largest and most popular mods available for Warband and continues to grow with an active team of developers regularly adding content and features.

Welcome to the thread of the 5e Regiment de Grenadiers-à-Pied de la Garde Impériale ! We are a dedicated group of players who wish to play competitive yet enjoyable events. We will aim to go to a range of events from linebattles to Siege's and Conquests. Our group of players will make sure you will feel at home very quickly, so you can participate and have good fun in our battles or ask at anytime for help. One does not need to be skilled from the start to join us: we are more than happy to train people in the Grenadiers fighting style as well as just playing with our members on a casual basis. Take a look at our thread, or if you just want to enlist straight away look at the bottom of this post to join!

History of Grenadiers

The silhouette of a grenadier a pied is one of the most symbolic and most easily recognised images from the Napoleonic era, second only to the silhouette of the Emperor with his hat and grey riding cloak. The guard was elite and self confident, its mesmeric effect on friend and foe alike was due to its close relationship with the Emperor. At the very top of the military food chain under Napoleon was the indomitable Imperial Guard, the best seasoned and most highly decorated veterans in the entire French army. They were the most fearsome and dedicated warriors of their day. From the plains of Spain to the snows of Russia, they followed closely behind the legendary black bicorn hat with the tricolor cockade trusting absolutely in the genius of the man who wore it. The Grenadiers a Pied of the Imperial Garde were formed on 4th May 1804, and consisted to two battalions, each made up of eight companies of 102 men. In 1806 each company consisted of 166men, and two years later the 2nd regiment was incorporated into the 1st.  A company consisted of the following, one capitaine, three lieutenants, one sergeant-major, two sergeants, one fourrier, eight corporals, two sapeurs, two drummers and 102 soldats.

Each field battalion had only one grenadier company. They were the elite shock troop often used as spearhead of attacking force. They were also granted a higher pay. The Prussian King Frederick the Great, required from his grenadiers to be brave, good marchers, with black hair and moustaches, not appear too amiable or laugh too easily and not have an effeminate aspects. He formed them in battalions and used as crack troops on battlefield. Napoleon's grenadiers were also elite troops, selected for their stature and war experience. The Imperial Decree of February 18th 1808 stated in Article 9th: "The Grenadier Company shall be taken from the totality of the corps, from among the men most appropriate by their height and shall be accepted only if they have 4 years of service and have participated in at least 2 of the following campaigns: Ulm, Austerlitz, Jena or Friedland." Newly formed regiments and battalions didn't have grenadiers as they not had been in enough combat. As for their appearance it was stipulated that they must present a formidable sight, with moustaches, red epaulettes and tall fur caps. The epaulettes broadened their shoulders and the tall headwears made them look even taller.

Regiments / [IIIe] 1er Regiment de Carabiniers [Recruiting Eu]
« on: December 01, 2013, 09:42:47 pm »

Welcome to the thread of the 1er Regiment de Carabiniers! We are a dedicated group of players who strive to fully use the French Carabinier unit to devastating effect, crippling any opponent we encounter. Our pool of CO's and NCO's will make sure you will feel at home very quickly, so you can participate and have good fun in our battles. That said, one does not need to be skilled from the start to join us: we are more than happy to train people in the Carabinier fighting style. Take a look at our thread, or if you just want to enlist straight away look at the bottom of this post to join!

There were only two regiments of horse carabiniers, the 1er and 2e. The ancestor of these regiments was Carabiniers de Monsieur, Raised on 1 November 1693 by the Duc de Maine, Louis Auguste de Bourbon. In 1792 the French Ministry of War ordered that the carabiniers must always be chosen from seasoned and reliable soldiers. They were armed with straight sabers and pistols. (They even briefly became 'Horse Grenadiers'). In 1801 the strongest and tallest men and horses from the dissolved 19e, 20e, 21e and 22e Régiment d'Cavalerie were assigned to the horse carabiniers. Despite the flow of soldiers into their ranks in 1803 the two regiments were only 2 squadrons each. Napoleon strengthened them with young robust recruits and brought their strength to 3 and 4 squadrons. In the ranks of carabiniers alongside the Frenchmen served also quite a few Belgians. The carabiniers fought well in the following campaigns 1805, 1806, 1807 and in 1809. In 1809 with the temporary absence of the Guard cavalry, the 1er Carabiniers formed Napoleon's escort.

In 1809 the carabiniers suffered badly in the hands of Austrian uhlans and Napoleon ordered to give them armor. Chlapowski, among others, described this combat: "The cuirassier division arrived, with the brigade of carabiniers at its head. Soon an uhlan regiment in six squadrons trotted up to within 200 paces of the carabiniers and launched a charge at full tilt. It reached their line but could not break it, as the second regiment of carabiniers was right behind the first, and behind it the rest of the cuirassier division. I saw a great many carabiniers with lance wounds, but a dozen or so uhlans had also fallen." (Chlapowski - "Memoirs of a Polish Lancer" p 60)
After this and another fight with the Austrian uhlans, Napoleon decided to give armor to the carabiniers. Their new helmet was of yellow copper, with iron chinstrap scales and a headband with the letter 'N' in front. The crest had a scarlet comb instead of the cuirassiers black horsehair. The cuirasses were almost identical in design to those worn by the cuirassiers, although they were covered with a sheet of brass (for officers red copper). The visual effect was astounding !
Until the disastrous campaign in Russia in 1812 the carabiniers rode on big black horses. In 1813-1815 they were more flexible and rode on blacks, browns and dark bays. All the horses were of high quality, one of the best in Empire.
In 1805 the carabiniers received dragoon muskets. In 1810 their long straight sabers were replaced with slightly curved sabers (a la Montmorency). In 1812 the dragoon muskets were replaced with shorter cavalry carbines.
