Historical Reenactment / Re: Waterloo 2015 ~Units/Impressions~
« on: August 08, 2020, 10:16:48 am »
Nice, feel free to share some pictures. I for myself am still reenacting the 2nd LB KGL and we had a great time spending the night 17.-18. June 2015 in real La Haye Sainte and having a ceremony there on the 18th. That was really great and I think the other Reenactors in this forum have a lot of different great Waterloo 2015 experiences. But I think a lot of the guys in this post sadly aren't active anymore on this forum.

Thank you sincerly for replying,  I wasn't sure if anybody would,  one thing that I am stumbling over slightly  - was any of the French Infantry attacking the farm  still wearing the older "lozenge"  style  hat plate on thier shakos?   as I have made a couple  in 28mm  with the older style hat  plates.

Kind regards.

By 1815, the lozenge plate was most likely entirely out of service. Variations occur with how long it takes certain items to phase out depending on the regiments but I think it's safe to say the lozenge plate would be gone by 1815.

Dearest Olafson,

The 21eme is not required to listen to keyboard warriors. We welcome constructive criticism with pleasure face to face. Over here we strive for steadily improving our drill and impressions over time. We don't appreciate fellows with too much time on their hands and without proper manners trying to force their opinions and criticism down our throats.
Do we have small inaccuracies here and there? Certainly. We work on them and always strive to improve our impressions. We will however always carry our eagle into battle if we have it available, it means far more to us than any other reenactment unit, at least in this United Kingdom.
You may continue to complain and criticise how we do things if you wish, but I'm afraid such grievances from you will fall on deaf ears as you've sadly given yourself a poor impression. Being our own regiment means we have the liberty to operate how we please as we strive to improve our already considerable authenticity. And, more importantly, we bear the fact in mind that none of us are real soldiers. You're not really soldiers. We are everyday people taking a weekend off to socialise with friends and bring education and enjoyment to the public along the way.
So if you'd like to come over here and demonstrate your superiority or discuss drill with us face to face we welcome you to do so. We wait with baited breath. Hope we don't end up waiting as long as people have waited for Battle Cry of Freedom.

Kindest Regards

No it's a promo for another regiment in the UK, the 45eme, although one of our members did act as an extra in the filming, you can spot him as he's the French soldier in 1812 kit while the 45e have 1809 regulation uniform.

21eme has a new Facebook page run by me and the other young members of the unit, gently taking control of the technology from the dinosaurs ;)

Well the pantalon de route is a non regulation item, as such it can be any cloth and or colour :) Although cotton is still uncommon in Europe at that time. For the Bardin pantalons, bardin basically decided to get rid of the woolen trousers and long gaiters, as he saw that none wore those. Instead he introduced the pantalon de route as a regulation item made out of unbleached linen.

Mr. T
I am not sure. Who told you that? Where do you get your trousers from? If they are, they clearly are bleached.

I know what linen looks like, our pantalons are linen. We get them from our Caporal Fourrier who makes them. We do not bleach them I can assure you.

Ai, but french trousers never were made out of cotton. They were made out of unbleached linen.

Ours are made of linen...

I wash mine after an event but that's about it, they're still quite rough afterwards anyway.

Ickworth House is a great event, it's usually a medium sized events where us young-middle aged members attend without the officers who're still hibernating in April.  If you're coming April-Junish then May also has great events, if Hole Park is on next year again in May that's gonna be the biggest UK reenactment that year.

I've set up the 21eme Regiment de Ligne's YouTube channel, I have a lot of ideas for the future with it. Already put up several videos from previous campaigns seasons. A lot of the videos give a great insight into what it's like in our unit.

Really nice and clean ! What do you use ?

We've tested a drone at the last one, I will show you if we can make a good video of it

For these our Adjutant Chef records parts of events of every campaign on his camcorder, don't know what kind it is but certainly not an up-to-date one as he's not great with technology, bit of a dinorsaur lol

As for the three I posted of this years events so far, I just found them on Youtube I have no idea who recorded them ;)
