WWI Russian Infantry Ranks
« on: December 23, 2012, 05:44:47 am »
Hey guys, I have made a Russian regiment for the upcoming mod Iron Europe. It is based off the Izmaylovsky Lifeguard Regiment. I have been fiddling around with our ranks to see what works best, but I decided since we already have a lot of members, it would be best to go with what would be realistic. If somebody could give me the Russian infantry ranks during WWI that would be great. If possible I would like the full Russian name, Russian abbreviation and English translation, and if you wanted to go the extra mile, what that rank did historically in the Russian army. Thanks in advance, and if anyone is interested in checking out the regiment, our Steam group page is here: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/IzmaylovskyReg

Note: I did do a bit of research, but I only found a bunch of conflicting information.
Note2: It would also be helpful to know how many would generally be present in a regiment (For example, 1 Col)

But wait - a corporal outranks a lance-corporal!

That's because a ефрейтор, from the German "Gefreiter," should not be translated as "corporal."

The site I used for Napoleonic ranks a few months back is great for comparison across the eras. http://army.armor.kiev.ua/titul/rus_1.shtml (Eugen's table matches up completely with the one provided here)

This should be very useful, we have had a bit of trouble figuring out the ranks for our regiment, as there aren't very many reliable sources I was able to find myself. But with this, we have a basis, an outline of what we need to put in place. Thanks.
