Helmet question (Okay, have at it)
« on: January 08, 2014, 07:07:23 pm »
Hey guys!

A friend of mine recently bought an helmet and we are not entire sure what model it is. He thinks it's a Spanish M44, some people said it might be Spanish civil war, or something else

So, what do you guys think? I'm sure there are some experts walking around here.  :P

Its really hard to tell with that limited amount of information and lack of markings. Many nations, particularly South American ones (Along with China), adopted the Stahlhelm. As for M44, i take it thats a separate Spanish designation? Because German M1944's were never produced, and certainly never in the SCW.

He could make up som nice story though, saying it served with Spanish nationalists, and then with a soldier of the Azul Legion or something of the sort.

I believe Spanish stahlhelms are distinct in the presence of seven rivets on the helmet, whereas the German produced ones had three.

As for this helmet, the closest thing I can find to it is the Spanish M42, which was the domestically produced copy of the German helmet.

Don't take what I say as fact, as I am no helmet expert, and someone who is may come along later and inform us all of how horribly wrong I am.

I have very similar one from picking up for $40 at a flea market. Another guy who specialize in militaria at the flea market inspected it and told me its Spainish. Didnt tell me what type though. So.....it should be Spainish.

Looks a little bit similar to the Germans helmets but your probably right that it's a Spanish one or something I suck at ww2 uniforms.
