I don't know. I have the feeling that it's going to be similar in character development as SW7 and that was a)with massive plotholes and b)really boring. I would have rather seen a movie about something we didn't have before not the typical rebellion stuff. Maybe with an alien as lead role (Chewbacca, some Sith, a Twi Lek or whatever).

Its just annoying. Look at it from a young boys perspective for example. They are more likely to relate to some man / boy that they can aspire to be like etc. However at the same time i do see the good in having a female lead in star wars as it will help more girls young and old to be interested in sci-fi like things and seeing a female in a more action based role will hopefully change the way society views women as a whole.

But overall i honestly think it is just insulting to do BOTH the new star wars films with a female lead.
Its just unfair to all fans for them to almost make it transparently obvious that they are being politically correct by inserting females into every lead role possible now a days...

If they want more female fans, then they should do a crossover with Magic Mike

If the lead character is done well than I don't care if it's a man or a woman tbh.

I just hate the fact that it's obligatory to include a female and black person in your movie just to show that you aren't sexist and racist.

Pretty much this, its not that we mind the characters gender or race. It just so annoyingly obvious why they were placed in the film.

Would you say the same thing if both movies had white male protagonists?

I don't see why this is such a big deal to you, imo companies should be allowed to star whoever they want in their movies.

I think in an industry where white males dominate and people of color have very little representation despite being a major demographic in the population it's OK to defy some norms to give people that. Besides, race and gender doesn't matter right? :^)

Ofc race and gender matter.
If I make a movie about Japan, I probably want Japanese people only. There is no reason for me to include africans.

You get what I mean.
The same goes for Star Wars. Maybe black people are just way less common in the Star Wars universe than anywhere else. There is no reason to assume that black people are just as common. Actually if you watch the movies, black people are extremely rare.
So why should there be so many black guys now?

Equally, I think I have not seen a single Asian guy in star wars, until that new movie.

Shit, I think you're right... still, the lack of Bothans in main roles is deplorable.
