Released Modifications / Re: Napoleonic Wars Remastered
« on: July 12, 2017, 05:09:07 am »
Would you consider modifying armor/clothing values?

Something that always kinda' irked me about NW were cuirassiers with paper armor and helmets. I understand this was done to maintain balance, but it really does take away from the "oomf" factor of heavy cavalry.

Helmets, cuirasses, and jackboots were worn for a reason by niche units.

The Tulancingo Cuirassiers, any chance we could see them with a little more bite than vanilla NW cuirassiers?

No NW mod has really adequately represented the advantages of being armored (at least in melee combat, ballistics are a whole different can of worms), which I suppose I can understand at the risk of upsetting balance. But I must say that paper breastplates and helmets really erodes at the "oomph" factor that the metal-clad cuirassier represents.

Nice to see that we will be killing some commies soon!!  :D

Might I direct your attention to the Civil War in Russia mod for vanilla Warband instead?

Agreed, Ivkolya, you the man.  ;D

Glad I could help with the info, I am sure you will be able to comprehend the sources far better than I.

Definitely looking forward to the release of this mod!

Although their involvement wasn't big enough to merit their involvement as a single faction, any chance we could see some of the Greek Legion? Perhaps just have them as an individual unit under the Russian roster.

It would just be cool to have them since they look so unique with their fustanella, caps, and bright colors:

While I don't think there is anything unique you could do with them in terms of stats, there is something you could perhaps do mechanically. From what I see in paintings, the Greeks tend to love to cram their sashes with all matter of stuff, including multiple pistols. Along with a rifle and ammo you could randomize the infantry equipment (they are described as havings staves, pistols and daggers). To mix things up Maybe give the officer a unique saber, and two pistols? It would make for an interesting change of pace, being able to basically double-tap your enemies, shooting with one pistol, then drawing the other and shooting again, something I haven't seen done yet in a NW mod.

Although not from the Crimean war, this basically illustrates what I am getting at

Anyways, probably not a priority, but just something to consider for the sake of flavor. There's not much information on these guys, but this thread seems a good point of sources:

Blood & Iron / Re: The Japanese Horo.

I removed the horo in my mod, but I dont know if you would like having black and gold bois running around.

Cool! Many thanks! Other units are good looking too, Japan was severely lacking jingasa-bearing infantry (cone heads don't count).

I get it was a thing, but the horo (the giant-balloon cloak on the back of the traditional Japanese General and guards) makes third person combat nigh-impossible.

Any sub-mod available to remove it?

Blood & Iron / Blood and Iron Roleplay Server?
« on: May 15, 2016, 05:13:37 am »
Hey all, with the coming B&I update I've proposed an idea on the 59th forums (the hosts of the popular Napoleonic Wars RP server) to host a B&I Roleplay server.

Do, discuss here your support, ideas, and criticisms:

Oh certainly, some leather boots, or a brass helmet would not be effective against arms of the time under almost all circumstances, and those where they would be (say a tangential shot) wouldn't be worth representing, or may be borderline impossible to represent. That being said, I do beg to differ when it comes to melee, where item stats could feasibly come into play. Cuirasses (not relevant here), metal helmets, and knee-high jackboots of the period were worn at least partially for practical reason from my understanding.

Like I said though, I'm really just grasping at straws, minor details that have always bugged me.

All of that aside, fine work with the mod! I really like the gunplay, maybe just because it is something new as opposed to the same old NW. This brings me back to the old days of playing Battle Grounds 2, an American Revolutionary War mod for Half-Life 2.

Heya, I dunno' if this would completely screw with the balance of the game, but do you have any intentions of conducting further balancing with items? For example, I would imagine that the brass helmets of the Continental Dragoons would be more effective than, say, a tarleton. Or, say the knee-high jackboots of some cavalry are more protective than ankle boots. That being said, this is really is just grasping at straws, but I was always disappointed by the underwhelming armor values in Napoleonic Wars, cuirasses providing little more protective value, and all helmets being made equal.

Nitpicking over.

Now, a question while I'm here. What exactly are the stat differences between units such as marines, light infantry, foot guard, milita, etc?

Gotta' love the funky cap too, probably does the trick on a hot sunny day though.

12
Always love the Imperial jingasa, they remind me of steel helmets of the 20th century. Granted, from my understanding few were actually made of metal, but I do wonder about the protective value of such headgear as they are quite domed and rounded.

Still working on the mod! Can you believe it?!

Have another French uniform to look at...

Really nice improvement! On that note, what was up with the old boots? The old boots made the cavalryman look as if he had some massive swelling issues with his lower legs. Yet, in the drawn image, it's the same way, was this really a thing, or just a modelling goof? Were the boots just puffed out due to being filled with something? Perhaps the trousers? It has always confused me.

and I got my left and right mixed up again in the comment, you're right of course  ;D

Always glad to help! By the way, to ask this question again; do you intend to give armored troop types (cuirassiers, and especially traditional Japanese infantry) a bit more weight to them? As it stands with the last release of the mod, Cuirasses and helmets don't seem to do much.

15
Comparison time! On the right is the new French Cuirassier, and on the left is the old (still fantastically made) one:

Think you mean on the left is the new one, the right looks like the old one (the blubber boots being a giveaway). Unless I am wrong... which could be the case, but the left does look better in my opinion.
