Hello Wismar,
Here is a website where you will find plenty of French uniforms of the 1870 war:
http://www.laguerrede1870enimages.fr/page64.htmlIf you need any help with translation, just let me know.
And I have aswell, tons of songs written during the war and talking about it. Here are some:
- Le Moblot (The Moblot), 1870This song was written during the war, and talks about the soldiers of the Garde Mobile, to glorify them.
- La Défense de Paris (The Defense of Paris), 1870This song was written during the war, when Paris was besieged by the Prussians. This is a ballad, a sad song, about the hard life of the citizen of Paris, but also about the war, the loss of Alsace-Lorraine etc.
- Passant par Paris (While passing by Paris), 1870This song was written by the French sailors who fought in the French army during the war. They sang that during the defense of Paris.
- Le Sire de Fisch-Ton-Kan (The King of "Get-Outta-Here"), 1871The song was written after the defeat, and is made to mock Napoléon III, who led France to defeat (according to the French people, and especially the Commune).
- La Strasbourgeoise (The Girl of Strasbourg), 1871:This beautiful song was written after the defeat, and talks about the loss of Alsace-Lorraine. There is a little girl who lost her father and mother, and who has to beg for money in the streets, but she refuses the money that a Prussian soldier gives her, because she's proud to be French.
- Les Cuirassiers de Reichshoffen (The Cuirassiers of Reichshoffen), 1871This song is a revanchist song written after the war (or near the end), and talks about the glorious charge of the French Cavalry at the battle of Reichshoffen, where they sacrified themselves to give time to the French Army to retreat without being attacked by the Prussians.
- La Dance des Bombes (The Danse of Bombs), 1871:This song talks about the 18th of March 1871, and the beggining of the insurrection of the Commune. This song was written during the time of the Commune.
- La Semaine Sanglante (The Bloody Week), 1871:This song was written after the time of the Commune, and talks about the week during which Paris was taken back by the men of Thiers, in a bloddy fight that made 30.000 deads.
I hope that it might help you, I'll bring more stuff as soon as I find some. Good luck in your researches
