I find the Japanese-American Alliance that has been going on since the end of World War 2. America has even made written conformation that it will side with Japan should war between Japan and China break out. Love how the US manages to make allies out of past enemies in many occasions. Austrian-German Alliance before 1914. I think it is very interesting how fast Bismark was able to form this alliance after the German-German War :)

I find the Confederation of the Rhine interesting. If you don't know what that is, it was a joining of several German states including Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemburg under Napoleonic France. I'll leave a wiki page  ;)

Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth
"Russia and Prussia, especially, tried to suppress both Polish culture and language and the Catholic faith. In response, the Poles developed one of the most intense and self-sacrificing versions of Romantic nationalism ever seen in Europe. "- Neal Ascherson
