General Discussion / Servers on Linux
« on: March 02, 2022, 08:19:13 am »
Hey,

I'm slightly hurt that I did not see Linux servers from the get go, as I thought Unity was this cool engine with a single click build option for Linux. Anyway, of course it is manageable to run it on Linux with some quirks, thanks for even providing server files though!

You need, as usual, to use wine.
But as it seems that the server won't run without opening a window, you also need to install xvfb-run.

And then you just start the server with "xvfb-run --auto-servernum --server-args='-screen 0 640x480x24:32' wine BCoF.exe -batchmode -nographics -server"
and voila, the server runs!

I did however notice a base cpu usage of 40% (of a single core on a 4Ghz Xeon) on start of an empty server, once map change occurred it went down to 9-10%. Not sure if that's normal or a problem generated by not running things on Windows. Ram usage is 4,7GB.

Have fun!

I asked SirHenri and he was like "No I didn't give explicit permission, just gave him the files", but well fml then, let that evildoer destroy the purpose of exclusive files, which are, in fact no more, because we didn't gave him his rattle for doing nothing.

As the host I just don't care anymore if the server goes to shit, if this case of extremely childish behaviour is seriously not taken care of, because of some vague lies, I don't get it, SirHenri probably was like "Yeah I don't give a damn about it anymore, I gave *whoever* the full rights".

Well it origins from SirHenri and was passed forward from host to host, eventually going down. I dont see any legal right for him to now publicing the files which are to be run exclusively on the killbox server. I will talk to SirHenri and probably Gax about taking down the mega link for copyright infringement. Looks like they didn't gave a fuck really.

He just uploaded it after we denied him his old position for being just one of the many old hosters which all abandoned the project several times.

So it's the classic salty revenge upload.

Due to the Head Admins decision, it appears i am no longer a Senior Admin on this server, i suppose this is a present for being an admin for 2 years.

Stay strong Ryan!

"Ryans Killbox Server" confirmed.

Hm, ich finde du bist eher deshalb unpassend für den Posten, weil du dich nicht über Hater hinweg setzen kannst.

Ein Moderator hat das Board sauber zu halten und zu verwarnen und nicht jedem zu gefallen.

If you would like to save some Megabytes at upload, go and strip the module folder of the folders GLShaders, Music, Sounds, Textures.

That way, you get rid of 1,19GB.

You are left with 294MB of files. Compress these with default .rar settings, then you got a smooth 70MB .rar package.

Running a server with the striped version works, just tested it.

Oh and I reused a NW config, worked well, except for maps and factions. Legit factions seem to be: fac_france fac_britain.

Uhm kay, so you classify the general server guys that want servers as complete morons, because the files are obviously delivered within every client.

I'm thankful for your appreciation, though.
Greets.

Server files absence, so I've rented a Windows vServer, installed Steam, installed Warband, started NW(which obviously crashed, but was necessary for IronEurope to find NW), installed Iron Europe 1.0 and 1.1, ripped Music, Textures, Sounds etc., and zipped it into a file: <link>
Just unpack, edit the ironeurope.txt and start via the .bat(Windows) or via .sh(Linux with wine)

Best wishes,
Nettelbeck

And yes, <link> also has all the other files inside, with 10GBit connection, happy loading.
I'm pretty sure that there's a reason they didn't release it early as a just a big file, need the installer so it can check to ensure that they own NW, so this is kinda not allowed I think.

So. You think the official Taleworlds page is breaking the law by publishing their NW serverfiles, is that the case? http://download2.taleworlds.com/mb_warband_napoleonic_wars_dedicated_1158_nw_1104.zip

Clients also have the needed files for server inside, so.

I think, the NW check is just out of convenience for the user, and that there has been no serverfiles yet should be because of... laziness I guess :P

Also, chill. Its just the serverfiles, I'm not offering a pirated version of the game itself or something like that o.O.

So, the serverfiles are intentionally held back, fine.

http://ironeurope.ubu.so also has all the other files inside, with 10GBit connection, happy loading.

Links back since I removed the serverfiles, or made them inaccessible.

Servers / Re: Dedicated Server Hosting Guide

I am hosting some NW servers for regiments, they keep crashing after ~7-30 days of on time.
It seems to depend of how full the server gets.

So I got a decent linux Debian dedicated server with more than enough resources, being used by ~70% when a peak appears.

But SOMEHOW they keep shutting down with wine crashes here and there.

Its not helpful probably, but the errors are:
"

# wine --version
wine-1.4.1

Starting servers with:
WINEPREFIX='/opt/wineservers/06' WINEARCH='win32' wine mb_warband_dedicated.exe -r 06.txt -m Napoleonic Wars

Some believe weekly reboots are necessary to clear ram or fix something, but since I got 64gb and its not even near 20% usage overall I don't see any sense there.

It would be nice to have some advice about that.

Servers / Straightforward hosting
« on: April 05, 2013, 11:20:33 am »
Hey there.

I'd like to advertise a private service I've got to offer.

I'm customer at a big german cloudserver distributor and my offer to you is
that I'll rent a small cloudserver and let you run your gameserver needings there.

Technical specs:
Lv 1 Server has 3x 2.13GHz Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU L5630 cores, 2GB RAM, 75GB HDD, daily, weekly, 2weekly backup and a dedicated full 100mbit connection in Munich, Germany.

It works for bigger events aswell. You can mail me maps and configs you'd like to use.

The cloudserver costs 15€ by itself. I'm asking for 8€ per month.
Why below original costs, you may ask? I'll be using the cloudserver for some smaller, freely usable programs like an IRC-network (maybe costs ~1-2% cpu speed at all) or a stream.

I don't do refunds, or have profit of it, so the taxman will be fine.
You can see this as a more or less voluntary work.
