Welcome to the 12. Schlesisches Landwehr Regiment, we are a Line Infantry regiment, playing as the Landwehr unit in game.
Our community has been around for a good 18 months with the same core members, so many of our players know a great deal of both the game and the Napoleonic Wars overall.

What we aim to do within this regiment is to create a fun, but at the same time, disciplined experience for everyone who wishes to take part.
To join this regiment, all you need to do is contact one of its members, leave a post in this thread, or send a personal message to this account.

Of course, we have a set of ground rules to keep the experience of this regiment civil and mature. The rules we set out to follow are these:

  • Always respect other players. No matter what regiment they might be in.
  • No racism. With the first rule pointing towards respect, this should be obvious.
  • During events, a strict chain of command will be followed. So no arguing with people above your rank.
  • No cheating. Quite elementary, cheating ruins the game for others.

So with that being said, if you are interested in joining the 12. Schlesisches Landwehr Regiment, there is multiple ways to do so.
The easiest being to post a reply in this thread.
Other ways include; Sending a personal message to Penn, adding any of our members on Steam, talking to them in-game or joining our teamspeak: eurots7.gameservers.com:9327.
Anyone is welcome to join and you do not require any previous regimental experience. All we ask is that you act acording to our rules.  So sign up today!

History

One of the glorious moments of the 46e Regiment was during the battle of Austerlitz.
There they fought under the command of General Dominique Joseph Rene Vandamme in the 2nd Division of the IV Corps.
General Vandamme's division attacked an area called Staré Vinohrady ("Old Vineyards") and, through talented skirmishing and deadly volleys, broke several Allied battalions.

The decisive attacks on the Allied center by St. Hilaire and Vandamme split the Allied army in two and left the French in a golden strategic position to win the battle.

The battle turned in France's favour, but it was far from over.
Napoleon ordered Bernadotte's I Corps to support Vandamme's left and moved his own command center from Žuráň Hill to St. Anthony's Chapel on the Pratzen Heights.
The difficult position of the Allies was confirmed by the decision to send in the Russian Imperial Guard to counterattack Vandamme's division.
This forced a bloody effort and the only loss of a French standard in the battle (a battalion of the 4th Line Regiment was defeated).
Sensing trouble, Napoleon ordered his own heavy Guard cavalry forward.
These men pulverized their Russian counterparts, but with both sides pouring in large masses of cavalry, no victory was clear.

By 1400 hours, the Allied army had been dangerously separated.
Napoleon now had the option to strike at one of the wings, and he chose the Allied left since other enemy sectors had already been cleared or were conducting fighting retreats.
Doing this, he secured the French victory.
The immense fighting to split the allied lines were highly praised by Napoleon and thus, the 46e, earned their second battle honour since Zurich.

"The Russians had to be beaten down man by man... our soldiers fired upon them at 25 paces,
they continued their march without replying, every regiment filed past, without saying a word, or slackening its pace for a moment.
The streets were filled with dying and wounded, but not a groan was heard ... You might have said that they were firing at shadows.
At last our soldiers charged the Russian soldiers with the bayonet, and only when they pierced them could they be convinced that they were dealing with men."

Russian charge at Borodino

Russian Infantry

A witness of the battle of Smolensk recalled that "I found the commander of the regiment, Major-general Tsibulsky, in full uniform, mounted on horseback among his marksmen. He replied that he was unable to restrain his men, who after exchanging a few shots with the French repeatedly tried to dislodge them by bayonet assaults, without awaiting orders. Even as he spoke, there was a shout of "Hurrah" from the line of men.
He [Tsibulsky] began to shout, even drove the marksmen back with his sword. At his presence, his command was obeyed, but only a few paces from him the cry of "Hurrah!" resounded again and again, and the men flung themselves on the enemy.... Light wounds were ignored until the wounded fell from exhaustion and loss of blood." (Tarle - "Napoleon's Invasion of Russia")

Despite the French and British army's fame from bayonet use, it was probably the Russian army who used the bayonet the most times in Napoleonic wars. The suvorovian motto was '"The Bullet's an Idiot, the Bayonet's a Fine Chap' (pulia duraka, no shtyk molodets).
The Russian bayonet attack was fierce and well-known throughout Europe. In Russian military manual issued in June 1812 was clearly stated "The bayonet is the true Russian weapon and the push of the bayonet is far more decisive than musketry"

According to French author Loraine Petre the marching power of Russian foot soldiers were marvellous. For days at a time they would march regularly every night and yet fight all day with the very minimum of rest and food. Despite the abuse, mistreatment and poor food it was the private and not the Russian officer or general, who won the admiration of western observers and military men.

Short info about the Pernovskiy Regiment:
  • In 1807, at Heilsberg they captured a French eagle.
  • At Eylau they captured another trophy, the battalion color of French 55th Line Regiment.
  • In 1807 at Friedland they captured the battalion color of 69th Line Regiment.
  • In 1812 they distinguished themselves at Wiazma.
  • At Borodino they repulsed a cavalry attack and then charged against the cavalry with bayonets.
  • In April 1814 they were admitted to grenadiers.

Regiments / Grenz Regiment Oguliner Nr. 3 [EU/NA]
« on: January 01, 2014, 03:29:45 am »

"Far from being passive conscript hordes, the Grenzer had a lively sense of their dignity and what was due to them
and in this respect they may be compared with the yeoman archers of late medieval England.
"

The Grenzers lacked weapons, uniforms, training and discipline. For these reasons the Austrian generals considered them as something well below the regular infantry. Despite the shortcomings however they performed quite well in combat (Malgaboreth, Eggmuhl, Wagram). When many Austrian regulars fled at Austerlitz the Grenzers fought hard and suffered 66 % casualties! According to some experts, including Christopher Duffy, they were "the most enthusiastic troops" of the Austrian army. During retreat after Marengo (1800) when all order broke, two battalions of Grenzers (Warasdin-Kreuz and Ottocac) fended off all attacks and allowed the grenadier battalions to march to the Bormida. Together with the grenadiers they fought one of the last rearguard actions at Marengo.
The French had good opinion about the Grenzers and considered them as the only ones looking warlike in the entire Austrian army.

Their uniforms and fierce demeanor gave them a brigandlike air that seemed to portend great deeds on the battlefield. The Grenzers came from military frontier between Austria and Turkey settled by Christian refugees. During peacetime the Grenzers spent 7 months of every year guarding the frontier. They were raised as militia but were considered by army officials as something between light and line infantry. The Grenzers were given training in marksmanship and skirmishing and basics of linear tactics. When attempts were made to train the Grenzer as line infantry they turned out to be not as good in this role as the regular regiments.

Regiments / K.K Chevauleger Regiment 'O'Reilly' Nr. 3 [EU]
« on: November 30, 2013, 11:46:24 pm »

About the Chevaulegers

In late 1750s there was a proposal to convert two regiments of cuirassiers to dragoons but General Daun was against this idea.
He claimed that the "distinction between the two, such as it is, amounts just to wearing of the cuirass, but that makes a great impression on the Turks, against whom we will be fighting sooner or later.

"In the war against our present enemy the most useful force of cavalry is presented by the chavaulegers." - General Daun.

The 'chevaulegers' were a kind of cavalry which was new to the Austrians, being light dragoons who could serve alongside the cuirassiers and the conventional dragoons on the battlefield.
They were also capable of executing raids and other fast-moving enterprises, and doing outpost duty in difficult country at least as effectively as the hussars, and certainly better than the dragoons.
On 17 June the new squadrons surprised and defeated the finest of the Prussian dragoons, the super-large regiment of Bayreuth, and captured their silver drums.

"It would be difficult to imagine a more spectacular demonstration of the value of the light dragoons ... " - Christopher Duffy.

In 1805 at Austerlitz part of French 3rd Dragoon Division formed in column was outflanked and routed by a single chevaulegeres regiment (The O'Reilly).

The second brigade of the French 3rd Dragoon Division was defeated in identical way.
But when the French 21st Dragoon Regiment charged, the chevaulegeres stampeded.
In that year the French 21st Dragoon Regiment was an excellent unit, it had 50 % veterans of several campaigns and 10-15 years' service.
The O'Reilly chevaulegeres rallied but were again routed by the same 21st Dragoon Regiment.
This time it was due to support of several guns of horse artillery of Imperial Guard.
The chevaulegeres had enough and withdrew from combat zone.
Napoleon watched the cavalry actions and was furious at the commander of 3rd Dragoon Division.
