Parading through the streets like a bunch of nambypambies is hardly a show of military might. It's more like a sabre-rattling attempt at making the world think you're actually capable of something.

China hasn't got any real experience fighting wars. And Russia's grand military failed to defeat Afghanistan in the 19(70s?).

The only military really to have proven its worth against another modern power is the UK in the Falklands War, 1982. The invasion of Iraq was hardly fair, but the Falklands war saw the British outnumbered on paper pretty heavily.

EDIT: Thinking about Yuogslavia etc, they have all been really unbalanced wars.

I wouldn't disqualify the first gulf war as a fight between two modern powers. The Iraqi army at the time was both large and well-equipped.

Of course, I also think lines should be able to move in double rank without having emotional breakdowns.

Is there a line between promoting good things about your countries and manipulation for this stuff or is it over-used?

Well it seems threads like this always end in patriotism and hatred of other countries. For example, you've already seen Millanders 'MURICA' posts xD

This one imo:

It would be embarrassing to tell your kids that you weren't in the army..

Depends of what you did instead, it's all about perspective.
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

Yes I recognise that one. Definitely a good one for the time and one of the best 'serious' ones, if you will. Not like my example where the British go out of their way to make the Nazis look silly  ;).
