Can't tell if people actually think that F5ing does anything for your rank or not. It's just based on time online, not site visits.

No, it's because the time spent online resets after 15 minutes and then it doesn't count you as online. But if you have an F5 script, then it restarts the page after 10 minutes, so you can go anywhere while ranking up.

Pretty sure it only stops counting you being online if you're not actually loading pages/posting etc

Pretty sure even just refreshing and/or clicking on topics counts as action as well. Action is not just posting, it is actively browsing and clicking pages.
