I am loyal to my family, my friends, the city of Chicago, Illinois, and then the USA in that order. I am an American, just not a very proud one at this moment in our history.

I have to be a patriot. Others won't do it. So I have to. And I understand you're Family, friends, Illinois thing. But who made that possible? The American Armed services and America. That's us. We did that. (not really but as a country). The USA fights so you can have that.

My Grandfather served in the Army in 1943. He was an Italian Immigrant and that's how he became a citizen. His ship was kamikaze in somewhere in the pacific (around the end of the war) And he obtained a purple heart and a CIB. He always told me that this country is worth fighting for. And that he would've done it again. And you have to realize, he went to fight for a country that wasn't even his yet. And he almost died for it. I can't just not feel proud of my country. It's hard to be docile about it. My neighbor has 4 sons. 3 of them in the Army. 2 in Afghanistan as we speak. My brother is in the National guard. Does he really do anything? no. But hey, he's there. Standing by.  Like these people deserve to be remembered and stood by. And when people are critical of the US it hurts me a little on the inside.

Thank a vet.

Very true and I do love the USA just not our government. Some day once we humans get over petty in-fighting, political, cultural, and ideological differences then hopefully we can come together and make a united government for the betterment of all of humanity (not suggesting the IoM, but United Nations hyped up on steroids that actually functions and benefits us). I dont think that is possible though so it seems that humanity will continue to be fractured and divided.
