History of the 4e

It was created as the hussards Colonel Général on 31 July 1783 for the Duke of Chartres, by taking one squadron from each of the Bercheny, Chamborant, Conflans and Esterhazy regiments of hussars. On 30 May 1788 it was reinforced by a contingent of soldiers taken from the régiment de Quercy, régiment de Septimanie, régiment de Nassau, régiment de La Marck, régiment de Franche-Comté and régiment des Évéchés, all then cavalry units.

The hussars played a prominent role as cavalry in the Napoleonic Wars (1796–1815). As light cavalrymen mounted on fast horses, they would be used to fight skirmish battles and for scouting. Most of the great European powers raised hussar regiments. The armies of France, Austria, Prussia, and Russia had included hussar regiments since the mid-18th century. In the case of Britain four light dragoon regiments were converted to hussars in 1806–1807.

Hussars were notoriously impetuous, and Napoleon was quoted as stating that he would be surprised for a hussar to live beyond the age of 30 due to their tendency to become reckless in battle, exposing their weaknesses in frontal assaults. The hussars of Napoleon created the tradition of sabrage, the opening of a champagne bottle with a sabre. Moustaches were universally worn by Napoleonic period hussars, the British hussars were the only moustachioed troops in the British Army—leading to their being taunted as being "foreigners" at times. French hussars also wore cadenettes, braids of hair hanging either side of the face, until the practice was officially proscribed when shorter hair became universal.

The uniform of the Napoleonic hussars included the pelisse: a short fur edged jacket which was often worn slung over one shoulder in the style of a cape, and was fastened with a cord. This garment was extensively adorned with braiding (often gold or silver for officers) and several rows of multiple buttons. Under it was worn the dolman or tunic which was also decorated in braid.

On active service the hussar normally wore reinforced breeches which had leather on the inside of the leg to prevent them from wearing due to the extensive time spent in the saddle. On the outside of such breeches, running up the outside was a row of buttons, and sometimes a stripe in a different colour. A shako or fur kolpac (busby) was worn as headwear. The colours of dolman, pelisse and breeches varied greatly by regiment, even within the same army.

The French hussar of the Napoleonic period was armed with a brass hilted sabre, a carbine and sometimes with a brace of pistols, although these were often unavailable. The British hussar was armed, in addition to his firearms, with the 1796 pattern light cavalry sabre.

A famous military commander in Bonaparte's army who began his military career as a hussar was Marshal Ney, who after being employed as a clerk in an iron works joined the 5th Hussars in 1787. He rose through the ranks of the hussars in the wars of Belgium and the Rhineland (1794–1798) fighting against the forces of Austria and Prussia before receiving his marshal's baton in 1804 after the Emperor Napoleon's coronation.

On the French Revolution, it was numbered as the 5th Hussar Regiment during the army reorganisation of 1 January 1791, as the fifth oldest cavalry unit in the French army, before being promoted to 4th Hussar Regiment in 1793 after the previous holder of that title. In 1814, just before the fall of the First French Empire, it was renamed the régiment des hussards de Monsieur, though it resumed the title of 4th Hussar Regiment during the Hundred Days before being disbanded on the Bourbon Restoration which followed.

In 1816 the régiment des hussards du Nord was formed and in 1825 this unit took the title 4th Hussar Regiment. It survived until 1940, when it was disbanded. On 15 February 1945 a new 4th Hussar Regiment was formed by splitting-off elements of COABC 405. On 30 October 1945 the new unit was disbanded and turned into the 2nd Hussar Regiment. On 15 July 1956 the 4th Hussar Regiment was again recreated, this time from elements of 251e B, before being disbanded again in 1958. It was re-created yet again on 1 April 1959 from elements of 31st Dragoon Regiment, surviving until 1964, when it was disbanded to become the 8th Dragoon Regiment and immediately recreated from elements of 1st African Chasseurs (1er régiment de chasseurs d'Afrique) and from the instruction centre of the 6th Dragoon Regiment. This unit was disbanded at Laon, with its colours being entrusted to the GMR/6-4e RH).

In 1991 the 4th Hussar Regiment was yet again recreated, becoming the support regiment to the RMD-NE/CMD Metz. In 2000 it took the name of 4th Hussar Squadron Group (4e Groupe d'escadrons de hussards or 4e G.E.H), which it still holds.

History of the Queen's own.

The 7th has since it's transformation into becoming a Hussar regiment been the embodiment of dash and panache for which every cavalry regiment strives. Nicknamed "The Saucy Seventh" their only rivals were the near equally fashionable regiment the 10th Hussars. The 7th also attracted much of their Officers from the notability, including two princes. The foundation of the 7th is something of a mystery owing to their earliest documents being lost. It is known however that a commission was delivered to Colonel Richard Cunningham in 1690 ordering him to relinquish his foot command and take over a regiment of Dragoons.

The early years of Cunningham's Dragoons were uneventful with the troops spread out in billets throughout the Highlands. It had it's first military action in 1694 when it was sent to Flanders to join the King's Army marching and counting-marching for three years and being subject to the odd review. They were present at the capture of Namur in 1695. In 1697 the Dragoons returned home for a dozen years policing the lowlands. In August 1713 following the treaty of Utrecht the regiment was reduced, eighteen months later however George I re-raised the regiment to deal with the latest Jacobite threat. A few months later the regiment was granted the title of "Our Dear Daughter Her Royal Highness the Princess Of Wales' Own Regiment of Dragoons." In 1727 George II renamed the regiment "The Queen's Own."

The Queen's Own were mobilised for The war of the Austrian Succession and found themselves in June of the next year near the Valley of Maine where they found themselves exposed to the fire of the French guns. With the 3rd & 4th Hussars they charged, routing the French cavalry and eventually forcing back the French foot with some friendly infantry support. The regiment also fought in the battles of Fonteroy and Roucoux before they landed back in England in 1749.
In 1760 the (now) 7th were sent to the continent fighting in the Seven Years war but did nothing of consequence before eventually coming home after three years.
For the next thirty years the regiment soldiered quietly at home near the Anglo-Scottish border. The French revolution however saw the Hussars once again sprung into action in the Netherlands. In 1794 the 7th partook in the battle of Beaumont, a great cavalry victory reported by the Fortescue as "The greatest day in the history of the British horse." Here the British cavalry regiments had routed 25,000 French troops with swift flanking attacks. This success was mirrored a fortnight later at Willems, charging the French squares nine times until they inevitably broke. The retreating infantry was massacred. A few days later at Mouvaux the 7th continued to show their skill when they launched a daring raid to rescue their captured Colonel. After a further year of intense fighting the campaign was ended with the regiment sent home for a peaceful four years. The 7th partook in a minor campaign in 1799 to aid Holland, alas this failed and sealed the eighteenth century.

It was in 1806 that The Prince of Wales bestowed the distinction of Hussars upon his own regiment, the 10th. Lord Paget, colonel of the 7th, was a friend of the prince and this friendship soon saw the 7th granted the magnificent uniforms of the Hussars.
In 1808 the Queens Own were sent to reinforce John Moore's army, a mission bleak from the start. The 7th however did buy itself some renown in this, at Sahagun with the 15th Hussars two regiments of French cavalry, cuirassiers and dragoons were hastily overwhelmd. Many prisoners were taken and many enemies were felled at relatively little personal loss. At Benevente the rather overenthusiastic vanguard of the French advance was swiftly pushed back into the river they had only just crossed. Another patch of glory for the Queen's Own.

After the catastrophic retreat however the Hussars found themselves stationed in Ireland for three years. It was not until Orthes in 1814 when the 7th would once again see action. Here they mauled the retreating French infantry gaining a mention in Wellington's dispatches.
A year later the regiment found itself amongst the "lucky" regiments given the honour of fighting Napoleon one last time. At this point their colonel was Henry Paget, Lord Uxbridge the commander of the Whole British cavalry. On the eve of Waterloo the 7th were honoured when Uxbridge gave them the charge on the advancing Polish Lancers at Genappe. In this brutal and fierce engagement only nineteen of the 120 men of the Queen's Own remained in the saddle.
The next day, at Waterloo itself the 7th were stationed on the extreme right of the allied line. Until 5pm they were unused before being charged repeatedly over a dozen times.
"And having charge every species of troops, infantry, artillery and cavalry we halted about half a mile in the rear of the French position and there found, tho' of the 7th and 15th there remained but 35 men, Colonel Kerrison and four other Officers."
In 24 hours the 7th had lost two officers, eleven wounded. Sixty two rankers killed and 109 wounded. Uxbridge, their colonel lost his leg to a cannonball.
And so ends the 7th's participation in the Napoleonic Wars. One of Gallantry, loss, desperation and Bravery.

Alright well there is a program in which NW community does not know at all, it allows 10000 clients max has as good audio quality as teamspeak has seperate channels and is totally free. It would fulfill the purpose for any regiment.

The only downfall being that of course the majority of regiments are on teamspeak therefore dont be expecting any outsiders popping in =)

Its an idea for less established or starting up regiments ;)

Welcome to the 1 Pułk Lekkokonny Gwardii Cesarskiej (1st Light Cavalry Regiment of the Imperial Guard)! We are a Polish cavalry unit which, historically, fielded light cavalry. In game our main cavalry class is the Hussar, however we also play other classes such as Lancers and Heavy Cavalry depending on the situation. Our  regiment is based on 3 key attributes: discipline, skill and entertainment. We seek to create a regiment which is disciplined and well  behaved in battle, and able to crush other cavalry regiments with ease. However we also want to create a light-hearted and fun community, which we will achieve through cohesion and friendly co-operation.

We understand that most people that play this game have lives outside it, and we place emphasis on a flexible schedule. We also understand that a regiment should be fun to play in, so we organize as many weekly events as we possibly can. We only ask that you attend at least 2 events a week, 1 of them being a training. To further your rank in this regiment you must show maturity, discipline, skill, and above all, a friendly attitude. We play this game to have fun, although we also understand that winning can be part of that fun. We hope that any recruit joining our regiment will find their first events  fun and entertaining!

Remember our regimental motto: My za Polskę naszą i za sławę naszą! (For our Poland and for our Glory!)

Light horse in combat

The Polish 1st Light Cavalry Regiment of the Imperial Guard, under the command of Wincenty Krasiński, was created by a decree of Napoleon's, and signed on 9 April 1807. On at least three occasions, light-horsemen of the Regiment saved Napoleon's life.

The regiment was sent, detachment after detachment, to Spain. On 30 November 1808 their most famous charge up the Somosierra Pass took place. After the failure of the French infantry attack, Napoleon ordered Polish chevaulegers to take the pass defended by 3000 men and four batteries of Spanish cannons. After the first battery was taken, chevaulegers, without slowing the full gallop charge gained the top of the Pass in about eight minutes. All four batteries were taken, and the road to Madrid opened for Napoleon's Army. .

In the spring of 1809 the War of the Fifth Coalition began. The regiment marched to Austria. On 6 July 1809, during the Battle of Wagram, the light horse again led a charge that enhanced their legend. In one daring attack, they smashed Duke Schwarzenberg's uhlans and prevented the whole army from being separated from the banks of the Danube River. During the melée, they grabbed the uhlans’ lances and continued their attack further with these new weapons.

In February 1812 the Regiment was ordered to go to Germany and further East. On June 21 it crossed the eastern border of the Duchy of Warsaw. On the very next day Napoleon issued in Wyłkowyszki his order, which began the Second Polish War, which was equal with the French invasion of Russia. The regiment fought with distinction and courage at numerous battles, such as in Krasnoi and Beresina. During the retreat of the Imperial Army, they showed an equal amount of courage. They suffered massive losses, and by December 1812 only 374 men and 270 horses remained.

In the 1pl, we follow a rank structure used by the Polish regiments at the time. Despite being under the command of Napoelon, the Polish used their own ranks and so retained some of their military heritage and unity. Commissioned officers lead the regiment and the charge, the NCOs help with discipline, small management duties and lead the recruitment. The cavalrymen are the backbone of our regiment, the ones who slash and hack at the Russian and other European powers who dare to cross their path! All newcomers start out at recruit, and will advance to the rank of Cavalryman after 2 weeks of membership or 5 linebattles/trainings.

If you cannot attend a training or linebattle, you must send one of the officers a message or post on our website. We aim to choose the best and most fun events. Yes, that means at least 1 siege and 1 conquest a week!

Regiments / 26th (Cameronian) Regiment of Foot
« on: March 18, 2013, 12:23:57 am »
The 26th (Cameronian) Regiment of Foot was a Scottish infantry regiment of the British Army, active from 1688 to 1881. Although the regiment took the name of its first colonel as The Earl of Angus's Regiment, it became popularly known as The Cameronians until 1751, when it was ranked as the 26th Foot.
It was originally raised as the Cameronian Guard by the Lords of the Convention, named after the followers of the Presbyterian leader Richard Cameron.
In March 1689, three Scottish regiments in the service of William III arrived in Edinburgh, and the ad-hoc forces raised to protect the Convention were dismissed. However, the following month, a regiment was raised near Douglas by James, Earl of Angus, drawn from among the Cameronians, and placed under the service of William III. 1200 men are said to have been enlisted in a single day, without the need for "the beat of drum" (active recruiting) or any bounty money being paid. The regiment had a nominal strength of 1200 men, in twenty companies of sixty, and its unusual religious background was reflected in the regulation that each company was to have an elder, as well as the regimental chaplain being a Cameronian.

Regiments / The 27y Izmaylovsky Regiment
« on: January 16, 2013, 07:39:23 pm »

The 27y Izmaylovsky Regiment was one of the oldest regiments of the Russian Army, a subdivision of the 1st Guards Infantry Division of the Russian Imperial Guard. Formed in Moscow in September of 1730, the regiment was tasked with protecting Moscow and it's inhabitants. It fought in every major war the Russian Empire was in, being credited as an elite and ruthless force capable of turning  the odds against the enemy. Imperial family members served as chiefs of the regiment, giving it a royal status and special attention in battle, often tasked with protecting Russian generals from the enemy forces. Trained in elite melee and shooting skills, this regiment was the best of the best in the Russian Army.

Today, the regiment is headed by Tacticalretreat, a 3 year veteran of the Napoleonic wars and an effective commander. The regiment is currently looking for mature, disciplined, skilled people with a good sense of humor. We consider ourselves an elite regiment, and want our infantrymen to uphold this in battle.

Colonel Tacticalretreat - Overall commander of the regiment.
Lt Colonel Rory - Second in command.
