Roster Rules § 1.1 Roster limit is set to 3 players per team. § 1.2 Players MUST sign up with their community names in addition to roleplay names. Seems like a rather contrived rule in terms of its enforcement. How do you define recent or current? Why does the rule not simply read that a native player must have played x number of tournaments on NW, or for x period of time, to be eligible to participate? The last NW tournament I took part in was 2 months ago, which is surely included in recent or current when considering the lifetime of this game? Because I took a break from regularly playing in NW tournaments over the past 2 months, because I was playing Bannerlord instead of any Warband, that means I can't play even though prior to that I was active in NW for well over a year?
It just seems strangely defined and targeted. I understand the intention to prevent Native-only players from teaming up with NW players for the tournament, but why should that include Native players that have, at times, actively played NW for an extended period of time?
I don't think anyone would argue having Gibby or Maximou joining instantly makes the tournament much more competitive, everyone knows them and what they are capable of. Point is, Herishey and Marxeil were bothered enough to put a rule about native players for a reason and as far as this particular rule is concerned, they don't fit the current requirements to partake in this tournament. The rules can be changed or adapted, but Oneil is entirely right in what he is saying (regardless of how he says it).
Gibby was active in a tournament about two months ago but was pretty much inactive before that since a fair amount of time I think?. Don't think anyone would argue his contribution for NW clearly outweighs the ones of many here considering he is one of NW biggest patreon to date but it's been a while since he was spotted actively playing for a gf team/regiment/NWWC team. ONeil has been actively involved on NW for a fair good months and he didn't wait for a sword tournament to pop to gain interest into the scene, that's pretty much the extent of it. When Gibby and Maximou were as active as Oneil currently is, nobody questioned their participation in these sort of events.
Now if I was to host this tournament, I wouldn't bother with such a rule in the first place, pretty much because at this point, I think we should refrain from barring players to partake into our events on the premise that they might be hunting palmares (which I don't think Gibby is doing tbh, pretty sure the guy just aim to play a NW format he knows he will enjoy). Yes, they might not exactly help our scene by joining a tournament, then going back to inactivity but again, this tournament 'doesn't mean much' in the grand scheme of things, it's a one-night thing, with an unique format, don't think it's worth making a big deal out of it. But I can totally understand other thinking differently and as Oneil so rightfully pointed it out, either you stick to your ruleset for coherency sake or you remove it altogether and let everyone form teams like they so wish, with potential native beasts filling a good amount of your spots. Trying to find a middle-ground and making exception cases is probably (from my perspective) the worse way to go about it.

Both teams accepted, in the future I may decide to change the rules but now the sign-ups have already started and some players accepted/rejected I have no intention of changing the rule. I've learnt that changing rules just leads to even more drama and argument so I'll stick to it for consistencies sake until at least the end of this edition.
I've thought that about many decisions in the past that turned out to cause much more drama than expected.

Surely that's an 'issue' that concerns players first and foremost so let them be the ones deciding? From what I understand, you as hosts don't really care, you just want to avoid any potential drama which is fairly understandable but the discussion is already happening anyway and looking at the thread, there is yet to have someone who clearly voiced himself against having Gibby & Maximou join. Oneil and I only argued for a coherent ruleset to be applied and although I said I personally don't like daily at a case per case, I don't speak for the community so if it somehow happens a majority of the players partaking in the tournament don't care about Gibby & Maximou joining, it'd be a shame preventing them to do so.

When I first messaged you on Steam you said that 'active' meant that someone had played a tournament in 2021. When I then said that I have played a tournament in 2021, you moved the goalpost and said that only Native players who are playing in a different NW tournament currently can take part. I don't understand your intention if it's not to stop Maxime and I from playing. What else can I infer from an adamant determination not to change a dysfunctional rule on the pretext that it will cause drama, when thus far nobody has voiced any support for the rule other than yourself. Golden is totally right, why am I or Maxime not considered as any part of the NW community and as solely Native players? I had my own gf team for 6 months, I played 15+ tournaments, I was active for 1-2 years, I donated over 700 euros to NW prize pools, I tried to organise a tournament which would bridge Native and NW via the TWC - though it was not successful.
I simply do not understand why you maintain an outdated definition of "Native players" when clearly there is need for a more advanced categorisation which accounts for the fact that some Native players have played a lot of NW. You know that I mean none of this personally, we've always been on good terms, but in this case I cannot overstate how wrong I think you are for holding onto this rule. Saying that it will 'change in the future' is frankly deceptive; the last tournament of this format happened several years ago and it's unlikely to happen again for a long time. We both know that, so it's hardly any consolation or a solution by itself.

What is active? In another tournament right now? In a regiment? Some players skip tournaments, are they then inactive? If someone takes a break can they then not play tournaments? It is not only unnecessary, but the absence of a hard requirement on activity in the rule does make it subject to interpretation. Why not simply recognise that defining all players in two categories, "NW players" and "Native players", is insufficient when some players play or have played a lot of both? Just add a third group which accounts for those people.

I don't know what drama you're referring to, but I'm quite sure there's no chance of such drama happening about this. It seems like a lazy excuse to just say that you won't change it in this case because there was drama about a different rule change in the past. The tournament hasn't started, so there's no argument about rules changing part-way through a tournament, and you can't argue that it is somehow unfair to the other players you've denied, like Slade and Maxime, because they can still signup before the tournament starts as well.

I mean how frequent the format happens I can't really touch on as that's not my choice, I've always supported sword & bayo tournaments as they were the first I played back when 5v5 with 1 sword was the most common tournament type. Whether it happens again or not in the future is down to other hosts, but I believe most hosts don't like this style of tournament as they still haven't figured out 4 block directions yet.

The tournament was announced 3 days ago, with the day it takes place being in several weeks. I don't see the great difficulty in making a rule change so early on.
A stricter definition for 'currently active' would definitely be more definitive, but I feel like you missed my point. Do you not think there's very clearly a definitive third categorisation for people that have played a lot of Native and NW? Myself, Slade, Maxime, LaPache, ONeil etc. These are all people who have had both Native and NW as their main module for an extended period of time at different points and who have all played many NW tournaments. I am contesting why you don't update the rule with a recognition of the fact that putting me or Maxime in the same category as Arni, Brian or Peter when it comes to Native players is absurd, the latter three having barely played any NW.

As is the case with most things in life if you disagree with something(in this case the former rules) you're almost definitely going to speak out, while if you agree you're very unlikely to say anything at all. Barely any of the cav players that signed up play inf as well, but that doesn't bother anyone and I haven't seen anyone even mention it.These types of tournaments are the only inf tournaments these players are interested in and therefore these are the only inf tournaments that they are active in, just like the native players. And I don't see the problem with that to be honest. These tournaments happen like once a year so why the fuck would you bar some of the best players just because they didn't force themselves to play inf in between the sword tournaments just so they can be "considered active"?? ?
