Hey guys, I'm the other guy working on Blackwake since last September. Glad you guys are really liking it! If you have any questions or something, shoot a question here.
Frell and I work on this everyday, even on weekends pretty much full time. We love working on this project though.

Did you make the animations yourself? I guess they are placeholders?

Hey Olafson,
Yeah we made some quick place holder animations just for the mechanics to work. For example just a single directional melee swing and running/crouch were just quickly whipped up without studying any hard references :)
We would probably be doing the serious animations late this year, since they take so long to do.  At the moment we are just getting the core stuff down pat.

What is the biggest ship do you have planned? will teams be assigned to a single ship or could you have battles with 3 boats each side in opposing teams?

And finally, will there be fire?

Hi SeanBeanShako,

The largest ship we will have is the ship of the line, which Paul posted in the first page. It supports quite a lot of guns, around 77 not including swivel guns, so that would be a ton of players just on that single ship. We would love to support more then just 2 ship of the lines in a single match, that would be awesome for clan battles. The problem is that they are extremely performance heavy, especially during boarding as everything is seen at once. We will have probably 5 different ship types in the finished game from smallest to largest.

We intend to remake and optimize a new mesh later this year. So basically we are starting out small (with the naval cutter) then working our way up back to that large ship. The next ship will be a single deck ship. We are also having some team game modes where there will be multiple types of ships evenly distributed between factions for a large scale ocean battle.

Also yes! We love fire :) In some of the gameplay videos some players were running around on fire. Fire spawns are random with random chance at the moment, but we will most likely make some way that you can do critical hits like hitting their ammo caches and catching a lot of stuff on fire.

Also not sure if anyone has seen this, but this was our Concept trailer a while back which moreover explained the features of Blackwake. It got mentioned on Kotaku without us contacting them so that was a suprise.

Hi Dan,

We do have a ton of work to do, hopefully around mid to late next year 2015. No, our game will purely be multiplayer :) There are already a few different types of age of sail games with AI in development too. We do have a lot more game modes planned but we won't be showing those just yet :)

Interesting video as far as damage shown is concerned.

My thing however is this: does this mean damage control will also be implemented? an example would be throwing a bucket of water (or sand) on the flames in the movie or, since you've implemented melee, chop up a mast and throw it over the side?

I dont think they are accepting anymore alpha testers. Im not 100% sure though.
