About usAhoy, we are a small band of Czech and Slovakian players, autoblockers. We sometimes participate in tournaments and leagues, we rarely do anything else.
HistoryThe first documented information about the Czech fleet can be found as early as from the times of Rastislav I, ruler of the famous Great Moravia. During this era the Czechs learnt from
Constantine and Methodius, who arrived in our lands in the year 863 AD. Not only did the Czechs learn how to etch various scribbles (thus creating the Glagolitic alphabet), but they also discovered that Christianity is so perfect that its leaders weren't even able to agree on a unified leadership or on Christianisation (in those moments a Slav must have thought to himself that Perun doesn't have it quite as sloppy). The most significant though have been the cultural and practical teachings (in addition to the odd bishopric or two). One of the teachings was related to the Czech Navy, specifically on how to construct ships using the Viking method. The Czechs were taught this method by the converted Viking Oddr Naddodr who had accompanied the missionaries (it is said that he originated from some sort of island on the other side of the big pond. No sane Czech obviously believed him until he underwent his own maritime expedition). Therefore it was no big surprise when archeologists discovered the remains of longboats (and also of one dragon boat) in the waters of the Morava and Elbe rivers.
The Czechs, a people brazen and inventive, immediately managed to utilise the advanced technologies against their own enemies. This way they, for example, they were able to kick out the rest of the Avars, when they were sailing down the Danube river. The Avars, who were horse-riding nomads, were completely unable to resist the new Czech tactic of attacks by water and were falling like leaves in the fall. It is rumoured that the Avar horses were so frightened of the Czech ships that some Slavic brethren had seen them galloping as far as Sevastopol.
Amongst other things, Czechs have distinguished themselves countless times as discoveres and explorers. In North America, the Czech followers of Perun, who were on the run from bloodthirsty Christians, decided to pass on a part of their culture to the Native American tribes (the tribes however chose to rename Perun to the Great Spirit). In return, the Native Americans shared some potatoes and their knowledge of advanced potato farming with the Czechs. Unfortunately, on the way back the Czechs ate all the potatoes, and so only the knowledge remained. However due to these Czechs not being Christians, nobody believed them about the newly discovered New World.
Here, within the historic nation of Great Moravia, lie the foundations of the Czech Navy.
Recent excavations have also confirmed that the Siege of Milan during Frederick Barbarossa's campaign wouldn't have been possible at all had it not been for the Czech Navy.
