The Regiment originated when the "48th Battalion (Highlanders)" was authorized as an infantry battalion of the Canadian Militia following entreaties to the government by Scottish societies of Toronto. For Ontario's first kilted regiment, the Davidson tartan was selected in honour of its first Commanding Officer, John Irvine Davidson. A falcon's head from his family crest was incorporated into the distinctive regimental badges. The Gaelic phrase Dileas Gu Brath (Faithful Forever) has been the Regiment's motto since its inception. To this day, scarlet doublets and feathered bonnets, based on historic Scottish infantry uniforms, have identified the 48th Highlanders of Canada on formal parades. Leading them on parade are the Pipes and Drums with the regimental pipers in Stuart of Fingask tartan. History aside - we are a Napoleonic Wars regiment that values teamwork, responsibility, leadership & self-discipline. As a highlander infantry regiment, our purpose is to close in and destroy the enemy. Our regiment has fostered a sense of "espirit-de-corps" over time since it's inception and our members thrive on being apart of something bigger than themselves. For those who found this meme extra edgy and aren't familiar with the Canadian structure

"The rank, formally an appointment as a senior corporal, gives the MCpl authority over all privates and corporals. As such, a MCpl is a first level supervisor who will be assessed on his/her ability to manage and develop subordinates. Given the structure of the Canadian infantry platoon, the MCpl is roughly equivalent to the British rank of Lance Corporal, second in command of an infantry section."
