1. Füsiliere Batallion

A B O U T   U S

This regiment was formed in early July, 2012, from a group of players within the community. We exist as a group of friends who like to play together and have fun in general, though that is not to say that we are not a serious regiment. We like to seek historical accuracy within the regiment, therefore we will maintain a serious air during events, including PTS (permission to speak) and various other precautions taken in order to ensure that the people of the regiment are as well disciplined as possible. Furthermore, activity is a high priority, and we must ensure that people within the regiment are as active as possible. Inactive players will be removed from the regiment. We have a Steam Group, here. If you wish to join the regiment you can apply below by filling out the application and posting it as a reply or by adding Kpt. Greenbeard on Steam. Use this to contact any member of the regiment and upon acceptance into the regiment you will be invited to join the group. We also have our own teamspeak server. The address is 88th.ts3dns.com and the banner we use will be decided upon shortly. We'll post any announcements we have in the Steam Group, so that everyone can see it.

The aim of the regiment is to set up a group of friends, predominantly. We find that in order to become an effective and cohesive regiment the group must be comfortable with each other, and must be friends. Consequently we intend to have people in teamspeak as much as possible, so that we may play games other than Napoleonic Wars. Furthermore, we will adopt a professional stance in game, by using authentic tactics and techniques, as well as creating an environment of skill and discipline - we will have fun during events, but be disciplined whilst doing so. We will be a regiment that seeks to use period accurate methods, with some slight twists put on based upon experience within events in order to gain full potential from our techniques.  An extensive field manual has been created from scratch available to members so that they may learn tactics and manoeuvres of the time period - this field manual contains all the information that a soldier may need.

If you wish to join, you can register and apply here.

As it has already been mentioned, we are aiming to represent one of the finest regiments that existed, therefore our members must meet our etiquette. If a member is to do well within the regiment they must do their best to follow the Code of Conduct. Following this will lead to promotions if the member is proficient enough to do the task. You must make sure that you adhere to this code at all times! We cannot afford for the regiment to have a bad name, so members are expected to maintain the highest level of discipline that is available. You must read and know the code!

All members must show respect to both external members of the NW community and members of the regiment. It is understandable that one may not actually respect an individual, but it is expected of one to behave in a courteous manner. Also, jokes are absolutely fine about others, but when it directly attacks an individual in an obvious offensive and inappropriate manner, then it is not acceptable and will result in punishment.
Members of the regiment are expected to conduct themselves in a disciplinary fashion and behave well when asked of them. Of course, when the atmosphere is more relaxed then one may behave in a colloquial manner, but during events; it is expected that one will do all they can possibly to allow the event to flow smoothly i.e. not messing about and therefore causing problems and delays.
The regiment expects its members to attend events when possible, we understand that of course people have lives and may become busy sometimes, but it is greatly appreciated when members attend all that they possibly can and with greater numbers, comes greater enjoyment. After a period of inactivity, members may be removed from the regiment's roster for this very reason and in order to prevent this from happening, the submission of a Leave of Absence form (LoA) is advised.
During events, PTS (Permission To Speak) may be put into action and therefore will mean that members must ensure microphone discipline and therefore if they wish to make a useful comment then they should state either in chat or on microphone the phrase 'PTS'; a response will be given by the commander as to whether it is granted or denied and therefore the individual will know whether or not they can speak. Also, PTS is to not to be abused for silly comments, as funny as they may be, they are often not helpful and should be saved for a more relaxed time.

O R G A N I S A T I O N

Concerning organization of the regiment, we intend to use period accurate organisation, bu forming what is effectively 1 company (Kompanie) made of two sections (Zugs). Each Zug will be led by an Unteroffizier for the time being, until the point where the regiment gets large enough for each Zug to be led by a Leutnant. For now, the regiment will be led by a Leutnant due to the small size, but as the size of the regiment increases, and the need for officers rises, more promotions will be given such to the point where the Zugs will in fact be led by the appropriate rank for the time period. The regiment will use double column, where the front rank would at this time have stood tall, for speed and efficiency the front rank will crouch, and the rear rank will step right into the gap, so as to create the absolute minimal possibility for an incident to occur. Each Zug will have two file-closing Korporals, in order to act as markers for manoeuvres and formations. This use of the double column now offers this regiment as one of the few regiments which plays in order to suit historical accuracy and for the professional air - we play for enjoyment and not for fun.

There are 2 Zugs (Platoons) which each have their individual leaders who are both Unteroffiziers (Uffz). On the very far right of the line will stand the Company leader who will be an Offizier (Leutnant, Oberleutnant or Hauptmann), this individual will lead the regiment entirely unless it is decided that the 2 Zugs should function independently in the event that it will provide a tactical advantage. In the middle of both Zugs, will stand the Feldwebel, the glorious flag bearer who in some circumstances lead Zug 2 (This same rule applies to the Company Leader and Zug 1). Behind the line stand the Korporals who will be responsible for ensuring that the rankers are completing orders correctly and behaving. A similar role is expected of the Gefreiters at the end (left) of the line. Finally, the Musicians (Tmr and Flt) will stand immediatly behind Zug 1's Unteroffizier.

The 1st Pommeranian Infantry Regiment (numbered Nr. 2) was founded in the years 1677 to 1679, and was originally the 8th Infantry Regiment which was raised in the former electorate of Brandenburg. In the early years, it took part in the sieges of 1677 and was sent to Westphalia, where from 1689 it was dispatched to the various conflicts of Europe, including the War of Spanish Succession and the Seven Years' War. During the War of 1806/1807, the War of the Fourth Coalition, the regiment was in use in both East and West Prussia. However, the reforms of the Prussian army meant that the 8th Infantry Regiment and the 1st Wangenheim Neumark Reserve Battalion merged to form as the 1st Pommeranian Infantry Regiment. The uniform wore its brand new uniform - with white collar, cuffs and epaulettes and gold buttons - with pride.

With the assistance of Prussia was the commitment of a Fusilier Battalion to assist the Corps of the Russian Campaign. An Auxiliary Corps was commanded by General von Yorck, and was sent to Lithuania where it took part in several battles. The battalion returned on the 10th of March, 1813, to then fight with the other battalions in the Spring Campaign. The Pommeranian Brigade was operating independently from the Lower Elbe, and in the Autumn Campaign of 1813, the 1st Pommerian Infantry Regiment was allocated to be in the 5th Brigade of the 3rd Army Corps.

The regiment distinguished itself in the storming of Leipzig on the 19th of October, 1813, but had sustained huge losses. The 3rd Army Corps became part of the Northern Army, under General Bernadotte, and fought in the Netherlands, and from there into France where, in February of 1814, it met with the Silesian Army under Field Marshal von Blücher. In the period of peace from June 1814 to March 1815, the regiment was quartered in the area between Aachen and Cologne. The 1st Pommmeranian Infantry Regiment was in the 5th Brigade until 1815, and in the years between 1813 and 1815 participated in some of the largest battles, including Leipzig, Ligny, Waterloo and the sieges of Magdeburg, Wittenberg, Wesel, Antwerp and Maubeuge.

In the 1tes Pommersches, you are expected to be active, mature and well disciplined. In order for you to be able to advance up the ranks, you must show that you are capable of following orders, making constructive suggestions and have a good ability at the game. It is also preferred if you are active on TaleWorlds and on Steam, but most important is overall activity within the regiment. The co-founders of the regiment will always hold the highest ranks in the hierarchy and you should follow the examples they set: they will always be mature and well behaved, you must follow in their footsteps in order to go far. Do not troll, make the regiment proud! In charge of the regiment at the moment is a Leutnant, aided by a Feldwebel (also serving as the flag carrier) and two Unteroffiziers, who command the Zugs. There are other merit ranks available, such as Korporals, responsible for discipline, Obergefreiters, the best distinction rank available (achieved through skill, discipline and activity) and Gefreiters (also a merit rank), on top of the standard Soldat rank - backbone of the regiment. A further post will be made concerning the rank structure and further regiment organization/tactics.

B A S I C S

As you can see, this is what a fully formed up company will look like.

When in a line, if the company is to right face, this will immediatly form a double column which in most cases is a much smoother formation which can be used to move the company over a great distance. The transition from a line to column will follow after the order 'Right face' is given by the commander which basically means to turn 90o to the right. The opposite of this command would be left face which as you probably guessed, means to turn left 90o. The final facing command is 'About Face' which means to turn 180o over the right shoulder.

A line will always be double ranks unless stated otherwise i.e. two horizontal lines of rankers. Because we will normally function in this way, there will be 'files' (Fig 1) which is effectively a pair of two soldiers. Files can be used often to provide the rear rank with cover in the event of an enemy volley and therefore the front line acts as somewhat of a 'human shield'. When firing with our files like this, the rear rank will always step right to fire through a gap which has been created between parallel files. Also, as the rear rank move into their position to fire, the front rank will crouch so that in the event that the gaps between the files are too small - there will be less chance of team kills. All this movement will happen after the command 'Make Ready' is given (Fig 2).

If this is successful all the way along file, then every member of the company will have a defined space through which they may comfortably position their musket whilst preparing themselves to fire. When the commanding Offizier sees fit, they may give the order to 'Present' and when this order is given, all rankers must hold their primary mouse button to move their musket into the firing stance until the order to 'Fire' is given, then they should release the primary mouse button and lead death himself straight to our enemies. However, whilst presenting an Offizier may decide to give the command 'Order Arms', it is important that you listen carefully to orders so that you do not mis-fire and lose a precious shot which could be vital to our success.

How a full company making ready should look.

A D V A N C E D

In order for a line formation to move as it is, it must advance file by file which you can see in the diagram above. This advance will normally be done from the commander's file all the way across the far-left file. The command for this movement to occur is 'Forward March'. In effect, this is done as a ripple to account for ping issues and latency, therefore some orders are given whilst in line as opposed to column, for example wheeling can be done via line and column.

Deploying into a line will always happen from a double column - each file in the double column will move round to the appropriate side depending on the command. This means that if the command 'Deploy into line on the left' is given, then the person in the left of a horizontal file will be in the front of the line which is created as the person on the right will be in the rear and vice versa for the command 'Deploy into line on the right'. As the Korporals stand on the right hand side of the line, they will be told to prepare before the actual command is given and this will result in them holding to wait for the column to move past them so that they can move over to the left hand side in order to prepare themselves for deploying.

Wheeling is when the line acts in a similar fashion to a door which is being opened/closed; it moves 90o in the given direction and this may be used to prevent an enemy from taking advantage of the line's potentially vulnerable flanks. The 'hinge' of the line will normally be the commander when wheeling right and from far left Korporal for wheeling left. Once the command has been given, the files will move gradually as a staggered line to fill the formation up again, one file at a time.

Wheeling in line happens when the order to advance by file is given, and the direction of the line must be changed. When the order to wheel right is given, such as is shown in this diagram, the right hand side of the line will stop and pivot until the left has caught up and become once again a diagonal staggered line, at which point the line will resume movement and continue on its way. The order works the same way when given for wheel left except the opposite direction.

During aggressive reform of a double column, each column will move to its respective side. For example, the right column will reform on the right of the commander, whilst the left column will reform on the left. This is a quick way to reform when you are in need of exchanging volleys quickly - you can form up twice as fast as falling in on one direction, and as a result can fire a large amount of shots in a much smaller time. In addition to this order, an advance by arrowhead order may be given, when the commander advances from the centre and the the rest of the line staggers on either side. This is similar to advance by file, except from the centre, when both respective files advance at the same time, yet continue the staggered pattern. Hence, advancing in arrowhead.

This field manual is all public resource, you may use this as you wish provided you credit us for our work. If you do wish to use this, please consult us beforehand so that we are aware you are using it!

This is by far the best regiment in the world and anyone that says otherwise deserves to die.
