The japanese didn't start using formal regiments in the Imperial and Shogunate armies until the 1850s. By then, the uniform style inspiration were that of the mixes of French, British, Dutch, Portuguese, and American. So, saying an 1800-1816 Austrian regiment looks similar to a Japanese 1850-1880 Regiment, is well... strange.

This is an early representation of the Japanese uniforms, before the Imperial Army reforms of 1865.

Note the peasant-like style. Very irregular looking, and some soldiers and officers still wore samurai armor.
