I have found that I like the look of the springfield better but the Enfield is lighter. Haven't really noticed a difference in battle.

I prefer My springfield but as any gun has pros and cons:

Pros: I have never Had a Technical mishap with it.
It is easy to clean (if you know what you are doing.)
Easy to take apart and put back together.
         Better Balance.
Cons: Heats up fast in hot battles.
If it does break parts are a bit pricier for them than Enfields (Usually)
not as popular and looks out of place in formations which are heavily dominated by Enfields.

All in all it is for all soldiers to decide but after its long life My orginal Springfield (which is not used anymore) is still in great condition and has only had the cone (nipple for the people who don't know.) replaced.

But nothing beats the feeling of how it is to be in a good fight with your choice of Longarm firing in volleys.  ;D

Can't fault you for that...the boys at Balaclava loved the Enfield and it saved The empire as much as the Bess.

Springfield's and 1842's can heat up quick. I remember loading my .69 holding the musket strap after firing 20 cartridges otherwise I would of gotten burned.

The '42, '61 and '63 Springfields have a better balance point for a Rout Step while marching and also a superior setup for a sling; slimmer rifle stock and have a nicer take down process.

- That being said, there are a few nuisances with the cleaning of the nipple elbow being a difficult angle to clean and that the rifle bought standard is not blued causing enormous amounts of polishing.

The '53 Enfield is much more durable both with it's stock and construction, deals with rust a bit better because of the blueing and has a stronger trigger pull without modifications.

- The Enfield can be a bit awkward carrying on a march at times, cleaning the nipple elbow is much nicer.

Overall it's personal preferance.      *Proud owner of two Enfields and a '63 Springfield*

It's not about the range...It's about sending a message!

~off topic~

from my experience with both brown bess ,the postdam and the Charleville i would have to say brown bess due to cleaning is easier, n it is more rugged and reliable, and the kick from the Brown bess is very much like the enfield

also for some reason, Springfield feels more heavier than Enfield to me.

Odd,  the Enfield weighs half a pound more than the 1861 Springfield which weighs 9lbs. The 1842 Springfield weighs 10lbs but that is because it is 2 inches longer in the Barrel and is a 69 cal compared to the .577 and .58 from the Enfield P-53 and the Springfield M-61.   ;)

I think it's because the enfield is more balanced than the Spirngfield. From my experience the Enfield seems best for me overall.
