I do appreciate your pointing these things out but these are early textures we are still adding all the folds and dirt and so on. The flags we put in to see if we like having that certain one in the game and we will of course be making those appear as they did that July in 1863. We are still getting everything to look exactly as it did in 1863 when we finally release. That will include of course making units have extremely ripped, torn, and dirty uniforms whereas some units will be slightly more intact depending one when they joined, when they were last issued uniforms, and of course when there colors where issued or given to them. One of the biggest reasons why some do not have the kepi shape is because there are forage caps in this as well. In that as well the standard was that one size fits all so yes some of the hats would be tighter on some than others. In a 1863 mod, the uniforms would be quite used with mud and other scratches visible. There is not a single dirt part expect the trousers.
The heavy rainy days right before gettysburg made the uniforms pretty dirty and wet, the whole army was in a bad shape, which would be seen on the uniform itself.
The flags will be handled like above, they are way to sharpe and clean, for 3 years fighting!
Beside that, the hat gear looks pretty unpleasant too, the hats have not any kepi shape and the scaling for them seems bad, so you can look on the head and face accessories..

Now that I have a comparison, I see what you mean. I meant it looks weird, because on yours the plate with the matchlock looks like it's cut out, and then pasted onto the side of the gun. Also, with this comparison, you're rear sight is terribly off, the ramrod is too white, the trigger guard is gold, not silver, but everything else looks alright.

yes this weapon is not the exact one but of the same type as i said in my post. the sights are in the right place its just I could not get a real pic of one online, only a drawing of one which would not do. But the weapon still needs to have all metal parts texture so no problem there its still in the process of being finished, the white you see on the ramrod is the UV for that part. Looking much better. But that seam is really noticeable. Perhaps rotate the forestock UV map, making the wood grain horizontal, so it matches up to the stock. Also, you can use dodge and burn brushes to get the color to match up better at the seam.

Now To be completely honest I hope this turns out to be succesful but I dont think it will for 2 reasons.Well if you would have read the entire forum you would have seen that we started this after Hinkel quit NaS and when he brought back up we offered to help and were rejected. So this mod is going to be 100% Historical accurate minus what needs to be done to keep gameplay even. We are striving to make this the closest you can get to how it was 150 years ago. This is a mod that was started by reenactors original and by people who agree with our ideals. Now we all know that FSE is working on Battle Cry of Freedom but that is going to be out in well over a year. So until then we are going to work on this HISTORICAL ACCURATE MOD until if not even after FSE releases and as such we will not be stopped or put down. If your tired of ACW mods then dont look at a ACW mods forum its that easy.

I have a question... how is this different from North and South?This mod is focusing on historical accuracy as far as uniforms and the weapons used as well as maps. We are trying our hardest to to keep balance while at the same time keeping the mod as close to what it was on those days in July of 1863. We are also only focusing on 1863 primarily on Gettysburg but also with a few maps of lead up battles. I hope this answered your question and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

He said no because of that fact and that we would be "picking everything apart". So this is a mod that is going to have 100% Historical accurate uniforms and weapons as they appeared and were used in July of 1863. Basicly we offered our help and he said no because we love historical accuracy in uniforms and weapons.

In my opinion thats no reason... but meh.Im just telling everyone why we are doing this but any who those models are still Lv.1 they have no dirt, wrinkles, tears, and so on. We are currently working on making them as they appeared whether they would be all torn and nasty or newer and nice. With the issuing of new uniforms in late 62 and early 63 a lot of the uniforms changed for the second time. We are also working on around 5 maps for the release and will add more as we go all of them mind you as close to the real thing as you can get.
Id suggest giving your models a lot more work (Yes, I know its still WIP)
Im not sure but also give them something to make them look less plain. And add maybe some shadow to the pockets maybe. Like NW does.
And remember the Normal maps.

Okay small little update to keep everyone in the loop. We currently are working on the Union trousers and finishing up all the coats. Once this is done we will finish the Confederate infantry and get 1 of the cav and arty done. One of us will post things when we have them done. Excellent work on the 6th Wisconsin. The only problem i have with it is the service stripes and chevrons colors. They're far too dark. They should be a light blue'ish color.

The 6th Wisconsin was raised at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered into Federal service July 16, 1861 for a term of three years. It saw severe fighting in the 1862 Northern Virginia Campaign, fighting at Brawner's Farm during the early part of the Second Battle of Bull Run. During the subsequent Maryland Campaign, the 6th attacked Turner's Gap in the Battle of South Mountain, and then suffered considerable casualties battling Hood's Texas Brigade in the D.R. Miller cornfield at Antietam.Forwards Wisconsin!
The 6th Wisconsin being state militia troops were outfitted by there own state and not the Federal Government. This being the case most of there uniforms were ripped torn and in very bad shape.
The Sixth Wisconsin was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Lieutenant Colonel Rufus R. Dawes, grandson of the William Dawes who rode with Paul Revere. It brought 340 men to the field and lost 30 killed, 116 wounded and 22 missing.
The Sixth and the rest of the First Corps were the first Northern infantry in the fight at Gettysburg, going into action northwest of town during the morning of July 1st.
The regiment was initially held in reserve from the rest of the Iron Brigade. When Davis' Mississippi Brigade threatened to outflank the Iron Brigade the 6th Wisconsin charged across open ground to the Railway Cut north of Chambersburg Pike, trapping much of Davis' command and taking a number of prisoners, particularly from the 2nd Mississippi Infantry.
By late afternoon the Union position north and west of Gettysburg collapsed and the Sixth was forced to retreat though Gettysburg to Cemetery Hill. It was ordered with the rest of the First Division to the north side of Culp's Hill, which it defended for the rest of the battle.

The 6th Wisconsin was raised at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered into Federal service July 16, 1861 for a term of three years. It saw severe fighting in the 1862 Northern Virginia Campaign, fighting at Brawner's Farm during the early part of the Second Battle of Bull Run. During the subsequent Maryland Campaign, the 6th attacked Turner's Gap in the Battle of South Mountain, and then suffered considerable casualties battling Hood's Texas Brigade in the D.R. Miller cornfield at Antietam.
The 6th Wisconsin being state militia troops were outfitted by there own state and not the Federal Government. This being the case most of there uniforms were ripped torn and in very bad shape.
The Sixth Wisconsin was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Lieutenant Colonel Rufus R. Dawes, grandson of the William Dawes who rode with Paul Revere. It brought 340 men to the field and lost 30 killed, 116 wounded and 22 missing.
The Sixth and the rest of the First Corps were the first Northern infantry in the fight at Gettysburg, going into action northwest of town during the morning of July 1st.
The regiment was initially held in reserve from the rest of the Iron Brigade. When Davis' Mississippi Brigade threatened to outflank the Iron Brigade the 6th Wisconsin charged across open ground to the Railway Cut north of Chambersburg Pike, trapping much of Davis' command and taking a number of prisoners, particularly from the 2nd Mississippi Infantry.
By late afternoon the Union position north and west of Gettysburg collapsed and the Sixth was forced to retreat though Gettysburg to Cemetery Hill. It was ordered with the rest of the First Division to the north side of Culp's Hill, which it defended for the rest of the battle.

The 6th WI was never refit during the war therefore the pants have patches of wool from different places, Mud on the legs for all units from the rainy march from Virginia. The pants and jacket have faded spots from being in the elements near 3 years. We were trying to convey what Extreme Veteran units looked like at this point in the war and hope to show the different levels of campaigning for all troops. Eventually e were wanting to add more rugged detail to the older units. Thank you for your question.

It's extremely messed up in M&B, you can give a troop 5 hats in their inventory and they can all spawn with the first one.

Loving that 20th Maine history and uniforms. Excellent work. My only thing I say bad about it is how dark the sack coat is. It's almost black. It should be slightly less dark, and slight more blue-grey.

the only problem with the Union is that seeing as its a proper Army and has regulation clothing....they are a very boring bunch when it comes to variation D:The 20th Maine will all be wearing sack coats (longer than a shell shorter than a frock) Like Rosas said we tried to add as much variation to the units as they had in July 1863 but it is the Union army the Confederates on the other had will have far more variations.

No, the north and south models are highly inaccurate and not historical, that every reenacter who would play HWM would get a heart attack... ::)

Well we do have access to some of the NaS flags since Baz works for us but other than that we prefer to make our own assets let's say modding is more fun that way. ;)
I think I already posted something like that, but I will be repetetive: The mod sounds really good and due to the problem that North and South won´t be developed anymore, this really looks like a good alternative. I´m looking forward to a public release (soon? :P)!

When may I ask will this update be?Um if I have it my way today or tomorrow. The video of gameplay more than likely will not be ready by then but we will still put out an update. All that means is our first video wont just be artillery but will also include a lot of infantry stuff. We also will include the battle crys in that video.
Well time for another progress update. We have picked up the pace even more with all hands on deck for the final rigging. After that it should be just as simple as coding in the new brf, music, and maps. While we have been working I am trying to think what to show you guys but still keep some surprises for when we release. So I ask you after this upcoming confederate photo release what do you want to see next? We probably will release 2-4 more photos of the uniforms before we release as well as in game screenshots showing what it looks like. So please tell me what you want to see after this upcoming photo. If only 2 people tell me that's all we will put out but if its more than 4 then well I guess we will just have to see which one we decide to show you all.

Made my dick hard. Love the 1st US Sharpshooters. However, you mentioned that the 1st is "Berdan's Sharpshooters," but I thought that was the 2nd...They are both referred to as "Berdan's Sharpshooters" since they were both raised by Hiram Berdan at the same time in November of 61. Calling either unit Berdan's Sharpshooters is correct since they where technically 2 battalions which equal a regiment in strength. It was the first time that sharpshooters were picked out of other units and put into the same unit in the Union army. They would detach either the 1st or the 2nd and send them off on detached duty with whatever division or brigade would need them.

Doesn't really work that way, you can't steal work from a picture and all they're doing is creating uniforms and weapons you can see in a history book.

On how to balance those rifles, give them lower velocity (shoot speed), which means they have more bullet drop. If your standard musket has 300 velocity, give the repeater 150, this will effectively mean it becomes a short range gun similar to a pistol but with better accuracy and more ammo, whereas the normal rifled muskets will outrange it a lot. This makes sense because the repeaters had such shorter barrels.
Incidentally i hope you've given the rifled muskets higher velocity than the standard 250 of muskets in NW, rifling in the barrel does increase velocity which decreases bullet drop.
You should give it the reload animation of the pistol.We actually are working on getting a breechloader animation for all of our breechloaders and probably the Spencer will use this but will be modified in its timing to be slower than lets say the sharps since you have to remove the tube and then replace it instead of just put a new round in. Its going to need a lot of testing for sure but we will have it ready and as balanced as possible before we give anything out.

We would only be testing ourselves for around 1 day then give it to selected people for a much longer period of time to test. Myself and Hall are discussing about who those people will be and they will be informed when we get much closer to our open beta release. We dont want to give something to someone if lets say the sharps rifle shoots 20 rounds a minute and can cross map snipe. Something like that can be fixed in 10 seconds of rewriting code.

Love the Washington artillery! But, if I may make a suggestion, add the guards contingent for the artillery. Just artillerists with muskets. Also, for the shrapnel shot, could you just tighten the canister spread, very much, so it's closer at further distances? It'll kind of simulate the medium range and the explosive/shrapnel rounds flying at enemy regiments.

And there are actually a ton of differences between the models (mainly textures I assume since Rosas did the Model for N&S too, or did I get that wrong?) made by Hoppa for HWM and made by the north and south team.
And if you have ever been unlucky enough to start a texture conversation with Hoppa over teamspeak, you will know exactly what I mean ;) (Rosas you can keep him as long as you need. Heck maybe we will start paying you to keep him off our backs :P )

The guns they did make though did look almost identical to the union guns just the barrels were lower quality because they lacked the founderies to make very good barrels. The large majority of the Napoleons the South started out with were made from the towns bell where ever they were from if it was brass. It is easier to mass produce the carriage even if you don't have a barrel simply because its wood and some iron thats it. You don't have to cast a barrel and worry about it not setting right. I'd figure I'd ask: Did the team start the 150th Pennsylvania Bucktails yet? I'd really like to see them :)We have started them and they are done its just a matter of putting them together in the BRF and resizing things as needed. I just noticed something on ALL of the models you made... The belt doesn't even touch the units, it floats about an inch or two off of the body... Will that be fixed? It's just a resizing issue, should be easy.

Well our alpha uniforms were well not to good so we decided to wait till we had the new uniforms in to do a video. It was simply for cosmetic reasons. Once we make sure that everything is wonderful and happy the video will be done and everything will be wonderful.

Personally I have to say.. the work spend on this mod is not worth to continue it. The mod community of NW is pretty strange, as we can see on IE. They are spending time on a mod for 2 weeks and then they loose interest. Even if there were tousands of hours spent to make such a mod.Did you ever think that maybe we were waiting to finish because we were waiting to see how we could use your stuff in correlation with ours but if your not going to let us use it then so be it. As far as this mod we are working on it but have run into code and real life issues between college work and stuff at home we have had to slow down a lot more than what we wanted to. We have the mentality as that of the NW unit we are in. If you have real life stuff you need to do then do it first. Some of us have jobs others had midterms last week. Now then what I can say is we should be doing a metric crap ton of filming in the next few weeks and will be continuing to make more strides as far as the way things look and play. We will deliver the best possible mod that we can.
On the high water mark mod, you guys told me you have a very talented scripter and he is finish his work soon. That was 2 or 3 months ago I think, since that time there was no update.
So to be true, I doubt that HWM will be successfull or ever released within the next months. For line battles, there is still N&S used and quiet popular.
Also, I offered you my Gettysburg stuff (models and scripts) some months ago, but with the current situation (no updates by you and the missing mod support in the community), there is no reason for me to give you a helping hand, since I think the time would be wasted.

sorry for the long silence , yes this is still in Dev we had a few technical SNAFUs but not much was lost. Our Coder had College code to do first, and our Texturer and Modeller have been refining Items to look better as in their mind they looked low quality. Do not despair as we have come a long way and are not going to give up now.Great that you guys are still working on it! Is there any new screenshots that show of the work you guys have been working on?

I have never heard of that before. Also, how could the angle of the model of the berdans you put up to see affect the size of the cartriage box? Through out the war cartridge boxes changed in style a tiny bit. Although, not by much. Size pretty much stayed the same.Ok For Gettysburg when Sickles deployed the Berdans most of them ditched everything they didn't need to shoot. Thats what I meant kind of wrote that part while I was still asleep. They were deployed so fast and rapid at times that they couldn't always carry as many rounds and also some of them would carry ammo for there personal rifles (which are not in the game because target rifles are a pain. To many variations) weighing up to 30 pounds just for the rifle. If the were going to be somewhere for a while they would grab them otherwise they would stick with the sharps or 58 enfield. That particular cartridge box is the 54cal Springfield box that was made by Tiffany of new york (yes the silver company) who also made the uniforms and stuff like that. At gettysburg each man carried 90 rounds a man what that means is in arsenal packs which are in groups of 10 rounds per that were kept in the haversack so you would have 40 rounds stuffed into the cartridge box and 50 more in the haversack. Hope that clears this up. The things that happen when I type before my brain is up.

Here stands one of the Variations of a Private of the 57th Va Infantry. Notice he has a Double bag knapsack but this regiment will also have a mix of Blanket Rolls as well. Also notice the Improvements that were made as far as scaling and positioning for the Cartridge box, and there will be different colours and hats of this uniform. This Soldier is almost ready to take the field for the Legendary Charge that saw the High Water Mark of the Confederacy on July 3, 1863.

Why no 3rd Arkansas?Well we are only trying to do one regiment per brigade and if possible division. The 5th Texas are in the same brigade and division and we felt that A) the uniform would be more unique B) 5th Texas went through the slaughter pen, up little round top, and fought were as 3rd Arkansas went and fought Wards brigade on Houck's ridge. Honestly we would love to put every unit that was there into this but unfortunately NW and MB warband cannot support that sort of load.

What hype? its a 4 year old post with some uniforms, nothing has come from it. NW already has a very highly established and strong American civil war mod made by the glorious hinkel called North and South. I myself have been in it over a year and its fanbase hasnt seemed to decrease. I would understand there would be hype if hundreds of members talked about it and most of the NaS community did but nobody does, everyone in NaS talks about when NaS will be updated. This mod wont exist!!!

And I've been to several NaS events that force you to fix them from the start. It doesn't add meaning to skirmishers, it makes everyone a skirmisher, NW gives skirmishers plenty of meaning man :P

NaS has Buck and Ball in it since 1.0...... ontop of that you state regarding 'Historical accuracy' so i took the liberty of comparing the same unit across both mods and here is the result:

Needs new voice acting and gun sounds also will you be doing coustom uniform ?We already have some better voice acting that is done just not implemented. The gun sounds are actually how those calibers really sounds as they were recorded at a NSSA live fire event. Your uniform quality is so bad. Out of every historical war like >Mexico-Texas independence war that could have used a mod.
