Being a New York sports fan has been rough, but at least my Yankees are good. Didi with the grand slam last night. Perfection

Why did we pay Bryce so fucking much
Because he is a good consistent power hitter but his average had been below expectations the past 2 or 3 years now. Usually people who go to a new team who get big contracts like A-Rod, Machado or even Donaldson start out slow and get comfortable then they start playing well. I think Bryce will have 30 HR and 100 RBIs by the end of the season.

Or be ol' Pujols and do the complete opposite

trout ented the majors at 19, while pujols at 21

Mike Trout has two extra years to build up WAR in that period. If you take Pujols Average between the years you listed, which is 7.84, and multiply that by two it totals to 15.68. Now add that to the total you had listed and its near even with, i'm terrible at math so correct me if i'm wrong, the advantage going to Pujols with a total of 70.58 WAR. In no way am I saying that Trout is bad, or even close to not being ONE of the goats, but we have seen these numbers before. Pujols dropped off, and Trout probably won't. However, don't discount someone like Pujols who had one of the best careers of any player in existence.

I also do now realize Trout didn't have a full 2011. So my averages dont completely work out how I want them too. However, the WAR is still relatively close, and, while WAR is near all encompassing in its intention of rating a player, it is not the only stat and shouldn't be the only thing considered when comparing the best players to ever exist.
