The commissioning was on December 2nd, 1672 with Obrist Christoph Wilhelm Freiherr Harrant von Palschitz und Weseritz as the Harrant-Cürassiere by Kaiser Leopold von Habsburg.

At this time there was no institutional name for the regiment because of the fact that it changed whenever they got a new commander. Many decades later in 1798 the system got reformed and the unit was initially called the Cuirassier-Regiment No. 12. When finally 1802 one other divisions of the disbanded Cuirassier-Reg. Czartoryski was adopted the name changed to its final form which you can see in the header.

Napoleonic Wars and War of the Sixth Coalition:
After the regiment was already used during the past Napoleonic Wars in the Netherlands and later also in Tyrol and Italy. In 1809 they moved to Bavaria under the command of Oberst Baron Bechtoldand got the chance to advance several times in the Battle of Regensburg on April 22nd and 23rd against the French cavalry and assisted the rest of the army corps to excape across the Danube.
Since this engagement the regimental colours bear the words "Immer so, wie bei Regensburg" (Always like at Regensburg) donated by Empress Maria Louise. Furthermore Oberst Bechthold earned the famous and rare Maria-Theresien-Orden.

But of course there are also glorious deeds by the enlisted men to tell how the following conveyed example shows:
"In this gory butchery which happened on the 22nd in the evening one of our colour bearers fell into a pit, got outnumbered and captured. He had the presence of mind to throw the colours out of the trench so that it was saved but the bandoleer got lost together with the man. Hereupon the regular "Stampa" followed the French cuirassier who took the bandaleer over the trench, slayed him down and took the very back from him.
Silver bravery medal."

Later in the same year the regiment also participated in the Battles of Wagram and Aspern-Essling.
During the War of the Sixth Coalition the unit was not in use except for the Battle of Dresden.

We are always looking for new recruits who are willing to die for the Kaiser.
However it is a duty to grow yourself a nice beard how it is respectable for a vailant warrior of the Kaiser!

Thanks to TURIN who designed this thread!
