About the 35th Royal Sussex Regiment

The 35th is a newly formed Napoleonic Wars regiment made up of members, who are M&B veterans and been involved and around the community for a while. Most of our collective experience has been on the Persistent World/Kingdoms mod. But some have been involved previously in the Napoleonic Wars community. Despite being a new regiment, we are a disciplined and skilled regiment. Our members are asked to take roleplay names, relevant to the Napoleonic era, PTS is enforced during events and training. As a community we are also active on Persistent Kingdoms and other Warband mods.

Brief History of the 35th Regiment of Foot

The American War of Independence, 1776-1781

During the American War of Independence the 35th Regiment of Foot fought at Bunker Hill, Brooklyn, and White Plains, and also took part in the capture of St. Lucia in the West Indies. In 1782 county titles were added to infantry regiments, in order to help recruiting, and the 35th became known as the 35th (or Dorsetshire) Regiment, although the reason for the connection with Dorset is not readily apparent. The first real connection with Sussex came in 1787 when Charles Lennox, subsequently 4th Duke of Richmond, joined the Regiment. He recruited Sussex men from the family estates and in 1804, as Colonel of the Regiment, he obtained royal permission for the county title 'Sussex' to be transferred from the 25th Regiment of Foot so that the 35th now became known as the 35th (or Sussex) Regiment

The Napoleonic Wars, 1793-1815

Meanwhile war with revolutionary France had broken out in 1793, and the 35th was sent to the West Indies where it took part in the unsuccessful defence of Guadaloupe. On the return to England, Lennox raised the strength of the Regiment by means of volunteers from the Sussex Militia, and in 1799 a second battalion was constituted. Both battalions fought in the abortive campaign in Holland and in 1800 played an important role in the capture of Malta. The 1st Battalion remained in the Mediterranean and in 1806 distinguished itself in the victory over the French at Maida in Italy. The 2nd Battalion was with a reserve brigade at Waterloo and took part in the allied Victory March through Paris in 1815

After the Napoleonic Wars the Regiment served for a long period in the West Indies. On its return home in 1832 the Regiment was given the appelation 'Royal' by William IV in honour of its achievements, and so its title became the 35th (Royal Sussex) Regiment of Foot. The old orange facings on the uniforms, given by William III, were now replaced by the blue facings of a 'Royal' Regiment

Clans / 212th Attack Battalion (Bear Force II)
« on: January 16, 2014, 11:46:45 pm »

History of the 212th Attack Battalion
Spoiler
The 212th Attack Battalion was a Grand Army unit of clone troopers under the leadership of Clone Commander Cody and Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars, a galaxy-wide conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Troopers assigned to the 212th were distinguished by the orange markings on their Phase II battle armor. Composed of smaller units such as Ghost Company, the 2nd Airborne Company and Parjai Squad, the overall 212th Battalion was attached to the 7th Sky Corps, a division within the Third Systems Army.

Throughout the Clone Wars, the clone soldiers of the 212th fought in numerous battles across the galaxy and participated in the Republic attack on the planet Utapau in 19 BBY. During this battle, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine—the public persona of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious—issued Order 66 and sentenced the entire Jedi Order to summary execution. Like most of Clone Army, Commander Cody and the 212th troopers obeyed the order, and unsuccessfully attempted to assassinate General Kenobi. Shortly afterward, the Republic was reorganized into the first Galactic Empire, a New Order under the absolute rule of the newly-anointed Emperor Palpatine. The 212th, along with the rest of the remaining clone units, served as the basis of the Stormtrooper Corps.

Regimental History

Napoleon's decree of 1811 entitled only five of the 88 active French line infantry regiments to display seven battle honors on the reverse of their tricolore flags. The 18e Regiment d'Infanterie de Ligne was one of the units so honored. As early as the campaign of 1796-97, the 18th Line's stalwart fighting qualities were noticed by the future Emperor of the French. At that time, Napoleon allowed the regiment to place the slogan "Brave 18th, I know you: No enemy can resist you" on their flag. With the establishment of the Empire in 1804, the 18th Line and its fellow regiments were presented with a new flag (drapeau) for every battalion. A cast bronze eagle with spread wings (aigle eployee) weighing nearly four pounds surmounted the tip of each 6-foot flagstaff. Over the ensuing decade the 18th Line's path to glory was strewn with stunning victories, agonizing defeats - and the distinction, shared with the 4th Line, of having lost three of its eagles.Ten months later, the 18th Line earned its third battle honor (Jena). Again serving under Levasseur, Legrand and Soult the regiment was engaged on 14 October 1806 as part of the French right flank in the great afternoon attack that shattered Hohenlohe's Prussian army. Prussia did not capitulate, however, because its Russian allies were close at hand. The French were forced to continue the campaign into Poland during the winter of 1806-07. On the frozen and snowy afternoon of 7 February 1807, the 18th Line approached the village of Preussisch-Eylau at the head of a column pursuing Bennigsen's Russian army. The Russian rearguard made a stand on the Ziegelhof plateau; to confront them the two battalions of the 18th were ordered to the left of the main road. In the face of heavy enemy artillery and musketry fire, the 18th deployed into line and was beginning to put pressure on the Russian infantry when, in the act of changing front to the right, the regiment was suddenly charged on its left flank by the Russian St. Petersburg Dragoons. Taken by surprise and overrun before they were able to form square, the color guard of the 1st battalion allegedly buried their eagle in the snow to prevent its capture. Thrown into disorder by the rout of the 1st battalion, the 2nd batallion tried to rally near its color guard. A desperate combat swirled around the eagle, and a group of Russian dragoons including adjutant Fomine, dragoons Podvorotni, Deriaguine and Erofeiev and trumpeter Logvinov were all involved in its capture.

Writing shortly after the battle, Lieutenant Lacombe of the 2nd battalion deplored the eagle's loss but noted that it was taken only after the color guard were slaughtered and the eagle bearer (porte-aigle) was cut down by "the cossacks". A timely countercharge by the 13th Chasseurs a Cheval saved the 18th from further loss, but the damage was enormous: among its officers, nine were killed and 35 wounded - including the colonel, Ravier, and future colonel, Pelleport. The 18th also lost more than 500 men, including several hundred prisoners. If this were not enough, the "buried eagle" of the 1st battalion was never recovered. The regiment was so badly shaken that it was kept in reserve all day on 8 February, when the Battle of Eylau was fought. The 18th Line had thus won its fourth battlefield honor (Eylau) in a most discouraging manner. However, the Emperor again showed his fondness for the regiment in his 20th Bulletin dated 9 February 1807; he minimized the loss of the regiment's eagles, stating that to blame the 18th would be unfair because it had been placed in an exposed position and was therefore subjected to the "vagaries of war". The Emperor ordered that the 18th be given replacement eagles.

With just 1,574 men, the 18th Line fought at Wagram six weeks later, on 5-6 July 1809. The regiment was once more locked in a fierce combat for Aspern village, and again prevented the Austrians from breaking into the French rear area. For its part in this engagement, the 18th Line was accorded its seventh and final battle honor (Wagram). The summer of 1812 saw the 18th Line proudly carry its newly issued eagle and flag (whose reverse flaunted the seven battle honors) into the vastness of Russia. Attached to Joubert's Brigade, Razout's 11th Division, III Corps d'Armee led by Marshal Michel Ney the four battalions of the 18th fought at Borodino in the center of the French formation, attacking and taking the Bagration Fleches and later Semenovskaya village. It was at Krasnoe on 18 November 1812, during the long retreat out of Russia, that the 18th Line lost its third eagle. Marshal Ney had turned to confront his Russian pursuers. When Kutusov demanded a total surrender, Ney led his troops in a brash frontal attack that ended in failure. According to colonel Pelleport, the 18th was virtually destroyed in this combat. By Pelleport's express order, the eagle was placed at the head of the regiment. While other units sought to hide their eagles by dismantling them or hurrying them to the rear, the men of the 18th defended their honor. 600 of them became casualties, with 350 dead. Pelleport's justification was that the eagles should be proudly carried as symbols of the liberty they represented, not hidden away. The eagle and flag of the 18th Line were captured by under-lieutenants Koratcharov and Bolchwing and uhlan Dartchenko of the 2nd squadron, the Russian Guard Uhlans. The captors were each awarded the Cross of St. George for this exploit. A new regiment was formed around the cadre of the 18th Line for the 1813 campaign in Germany. The regiment served under General de Brigade Bronikowsky in Vial's 6th Division (Legrand having been seriously wounded crossing the Beresina in late November 1812), II Corps d'Armee under Marshal Claude Victor-Perrin, known as Victor. The 18th Line had requested a replacement eagle for the one lost at Krasnoe, and Napoleon approved the request in June 1813. The 18th Line fought at Dresden in August and Leipzig in October. Still under Victor, the 18th Line fought in the ensuing campaign in France and was present at La Rothiere on 1 February 1814. It is not known if the final replacement eagle for the 18e Regiment d'Infanterie de Ligne ever arrived.

Community / Donations in the 91st. The truth. *UPDATED*
« on: October 05, 2013, 06:58:15 pm »
Donations in the 91st are something that you do to the regiment as a sign of commitment and supporting the regiment as a whole and want to carry on using the TeamSpeak and in game servers. It is not just about the NW aspect but the wider community and for those that have been around a while its about maintaining friendships in the regiment. Now, the supposed costs of the 91st are said by the Colonel to be 110 Euros a month. I found this odd and spoke with others in the NW community regarding these costs including Regimental leaders and Server hosters.

Spoiler

PrideofNi [K-KA]: what, all of our servers?
Jigstas: Yep ts,website in game servers the lot
PrideofNi [K-KA]: around £40 I month I think
PrideofNi [K-KA]: a month*
Jigstas: Thanks, may I use this chat log for a post on fse?
PrideofNi [K-KA]: why? lol
Jigstas: Just a little project about something i am doing
PrideofNi [K-KA]: Sure, its fine I guess ^^
Jigstas: Thank you

Jigstas: Hi Tyrion mind if i ask you a quick question?
[78th]Col Tyrion: Sure?
Jigstas: How much are the 78th costs for ts,website and ingame servers?
[78th]Col Tyrion: around 35 a month
Jigstas: thanks, mind if this chat log is shared?
[78th]Col Tyrion: erm, what for?
Jigstas: A post of FSE regarding server costs
[78th]Col Tyrion: Oh, well our website is £8 a month, 50slot Ts, 12 a month and server about 15 - hope that helps
Jigstas: Thanks so thats 35 a month? Thanks!

Person 1: It's a Hetzner server, they are the only company which provide dedi's in germany of high specs, and they are well known around FSE
Person 2: And would there prices be around 110 Euros?
Person 2: their*
Person 1: 49 euro a month
Person 2: For a server box?
Person 1: 60 euro most likley depending if he included windows on it which is an extra 15 euro
Person 2: Yes

These 2 persons did not want their names involved in this but their permission was given to post these logs.

Jigstas: Hi Eazy
[25th] Eazy-E: hello
Jigstas: mind if i ask you a question?
[25th] Eazy-E: this about my costs? Tyrion told me
Jigstas: Yes it is, how much are all your server costs, ts , website and game servers?
[25th] Eazy-E: Teamspeak £10, website £10, 200 slot ingame server £20
[25th] Eazy-E: ish
[25th] Eazy-E: altogether my monthly expenditure is just under 40 quod
[25th] Eazy-E: quid
Jigstas: So about 45 a month then for the sake of argument?
[25th] Eazy-E: 49
[25th] Eazy-E: 40
[25th] Eazy-E: **
Jigstas: thanks mind if these logs are used on FSE in a post regarding server costs?
[25th] Eazy-E: not at all
Jigstas: Thank you very much

Jigstas: Hi Hekko
(WoC|2|Hekko: Heya
Jigstas: can i ask you about server costs and such?
(WoC|2|Hekko: Yeah
(WoC|2|Hekko: Go ahead :)
Jigstas: How much would a website, 2 200 slot servers and a ts cost?
(WoC|2|Hekko: Well it depends on the provider, I mean you could easily run that on the serverbos I go at the moment, and I am paying 49 euro a month for it at the moment
(WoC|2|Hekko: The bandwidth is the bottleneck for the servers rather than the hardware
Jigstas: Any idea about the 91st?
Jigstas: such as their costs and what they run? How much would it cost if i wanted too copy the same servers and the like?
(WoC|2|Hekko: Well afaik their server is in the netherlands, so it might not be comparable to what I am paying
(WoC|2|Hekko: And it might have considerably more bandwidth than I do
Jigstas: So its 110 Euros reasonable?
(WoC|2|Hekko: But if that isn't the case it should be floating between 20 euro more than what I pay at most I reckon
(WoC|2|Hekko: I mean, hiring 2 servers and a website from rackio will probably set you back 70 euro
(WoC|2|Hekko: And you will get the TS for free in that case
Jigstas: hmmm okay thanks do you mind if these logs are shared on a public forum?
(WoC|2|Hekko: Not at all
Jigstas: Thanks so does the 110 euro sound right for the 91st costs?
(WoC|2|Hekko: I cannot say, I am just saying that you could run the stuff that they have for around 50-60 with a normal server
Jigstas: Okay thank you
Jigstas: still okay to post the logs?
(WoC|2|Hekko: Yeah, it's fine.

Jigstas: How much is the server costs of the 92nd, ts, website and in game servers?
[92nd] John Cameron: Uhm. My website runs via all-inkl and costs me 5€ a month. I could run that via the game-server too but i rather have a good indipendant web-server and i am with that company for like 10 years already.
[92nd] John Cameron: The game server which runs teamspeak and all warband servers. As well as sometimes the one or other shooter server etc costs me 50€ a month + 15€ for the Operating System.
Jigstas: So about 65 Euro a month?
[92nd] John Cameron: I pay the webserver alone and the game server gets paid by myself and some good fellows who donate form time to time.
[92nd] John Cameron: Yeah 70€ all in all.
Jigstas: Thank you, do you mind this being posted on FSE?
[92nd] John Cameron: But thoertical everything could be done via just the game server for 65€.
Jigstas: Okay thanks
[92nd] John Cameron: And such a game server usually costs a setup fee. Which you just pay once.
Jigstas: Okay I got that so is it okay for me to post this on FSE?
[92nd] John Cameron: Uhm in what context? :3 Did I do anything bad?
Jigstas: In the context of the 91st not to do with you
[92nd] John Cameron: Uhm. Ok. I guess that does no harm.

[close]

All these peoples permission was gained before posting these logs.

This screenshot was linked to me by the 91st Colonel through a third party.

*Removed on request by owner (Tavington) on grounds that he did not give OP permission to post it.*

First, notice that the different size and font in the product column. Between EX10 and the other product. Second the Unit price for the EX10 is 41.1765, but then in the next column in a different font and text size it says 79.84. These two figures do not add up. And it is easy to alter this in paint as I did myself to the final price. Changing it from 110-116. And it still looks exactly the same.

So it would seem that the server costs are not what Tavington claims and are in fact cheaper meaning that he has not been honest to the whole of the 91st and most likely pocketing the rest for himself.

Further these pictures are of Hetzner invoices from other server hosters. Notice the different font and font size on the product and price. And Total costs.

This post is a warning not just to the 91st but too all members of Regiments be careful when you donate to the regiment. In the case of the 91st we can only guess at how much money has slipped through the cracks....

Regards

Jigstas

Optimates / Legio XVI Flavia Firma [EU] *Recruiting*

Legio XVI Flavia Firma

History
The former legion XVI Gallica, which had been disgraced by its conduct during the Batavian revolt (69-70), was reconstituted by the emperor Vespasian under the name XVI Flavia Firma  and transferred to the eastern provinces. This transfer was some sort of punishment, because the soldiers of XVI Gallica were from Gaul in the west. Yet the men must have been happy that they were not dishonorably discharged.

Vespasian was reorganizing the frontier along the Euphrates and the new legion was for some time stationed at Satala, on the Upper Euphrates, in the northeast of Cappadocia. It shared this section of the frontier, opposite Armenia, with XII Fulminata.

The Sixteenth took part in the emperor Trajan's war against the Parthian empire (114-117), and was redeployed at Samosata by Trajan's successor Hadrian (117-138). It was a quiet period and it comes as no surprise to find only evidence for civil activities, like the building of a tunnel near Seleucia in Syria.

The symbol of the sixteenth legion was the lion.

When I start up my Warband I get this error message. I have verified game cache. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Uninstalled and then deleted any left over files from Warband. I have checked the fire wall settings, and used programs like C-Cleaner and Revo Uninstaller to attempt to fix this issue. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know and I will be forever greatful!

Thank you
