Events: NA / Raging Seas | 1stRM Naval Battle [THURSDAY]

Hello everyone! To break the monotony is NW public events, the 1st Royal Marines will be hosting a naval event again. With two amazing custom maps, an open sea battle and an island assault, we'll bring an exciting aspect of the game that has all but been ignored. As always, the enjoyment of everyone participating is our priority, so any suggestions are welcome.


Map One: Open Seas

The first map, as the title states, is an open seas map. Both teams will start on either ends of open water with multiple galleons, teamwork is key here as it is not the usual linebattle. FOL, FOC, OA, and ROC are not against the rules. Therefore, the team that works together to outsmart their adversaries will be the victors.

Map Two: Island Assault

To change things up, we are introducing an amphibious assault map into the mix. Like before, both teams will start on either sides of the map in open waters with a number of ships. However, this time the main objective is to seize control of the island. The island is a medium sized land mass encroached with jungles and sports strong defenses. Once landed on the beach, both teams will be subverted to trench warfare, small artillery fire, and skirmisher tactics. When on the island, no regiment must act as a line but as a unit. FOL and FOC will be tolerated but only when a regiment sticks together and works with their team. While controlling the island is advantageous, it is not required. Regiments can provide support from the waters if they'd like to.


General Rules:

With two varied maps, the playstyles are quite different for both. However, the rules are very loose. At this point in this game's lifespan, everyone here has participated in an organized event so everyone MUST conduct themselves as such.

The 6th Wisconsin was raised at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered into Federal service July 16, 1861 for a term of three years. It saw severe fighting in the 1862 Northern Virginia Campaign, fighting at Brawner's Farm during the early part of the Second Battle of Bull Run. During the subsequent Maryland Campaign, the 6th attacked Turner's Gap in the Battle of South Mountain, and then suffered considerable casualties battling Hood's Texas Brigade in the D.R. Miller cornfield at Antietam.
During the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863, Lt. Col. Rufus R. Dawes led a counterattack on Joseph R. Davis's Confederate brigade of Mississippians, many of which were sheltered in an unfinished railroad cut west of town. The 6th forced the surrender of over 200 enemy soldiers. The regiment later served that year in the Bristoe and Mine Run Campaigns.
The regiment participated in the Grand Review of the Armies on May 23, 1865, and then mustered out at Louisville, Kentucky on July 2, 1865. The 6th Wisconsin Infantry initially mustered 1029 men and later recruited an additional 601 men, for a total of 1,630 men. The regiment lost 16 officers and 228 enlisted men killed in action or who later died of their wounds, plus another 1 officer and 112 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 357 fatalities

It's been a hot minute since any of us 3DM guys taken a step into NW, but we've been reminiscing. We want to play casually but under one condition, everyone must be plastered upon coming to the weekly LB. We don't plan on being a menace or insane rule-breakers in any event we go to, we just want to have some nostalgic fun and be that wild card reg in a Linebattle.

Sankt-Peterburzhskoye Opolcheniye

We are the Sankt-Peterburzhskoye Opolcheniye (Saint-Petersburg Militia). We are a regiment of old, experienced members from the Andee/FancyPants days from 2012-2016. From the Nr55 to the 3DM, the regiment is aimed to be a retirement home for not just our past members but for all players looking for a relaxed, casual experience. No trainings, no demanded attendance, just show up when you want to have fun. The regiment does aim to do some competitive play down the road, but that's all up to the members on whether or not we should commit towards that. Because the regiment is all about only committing what you're willing to do. If it's not fun, we wont do it. We hope to make some memories of our own and with other fellow regiments during events.

History of the Opolcheniye The People's Militia was the name given to irregular troops formed from the population in Russia and Soviet Union. They fought behind front lines and alongside the regular army during several wars throughout its history. The People's Militia is of the type known as "national troops" such as the Dnieper Cossacks, or German Landwehr, and although often translated as the "people's militia", "home guard", "people-in-arms", "national popular army", "civilian reserves", "popular levy", "People's Volunteer Army", "national guard...the factory regiments", "bataillons ouvriers", "all men fit to bear arms from their 21st year", like "British Local Defence Volunteers", "a hastily mustered militia, the opolchenie", "a reserve force", "Opolchenie (a kind of "Landsturm")", "home guard militia", "volunteer militia", "territorial army", or "temporary militias composed of mostly peasant 'volunteers'" its members never belonged to an organised military force, but were in all cases selectively accepted from a body of volunteers during a national emergency. The People's Militia features prominently in early Russian history, for example in The Tale of Igor's Campaign when it refers to the entire force led on a campaign. It was used for political purposes when the Grand Duchy of Moscow assumed the leading role in the 16th-century Russia. It sought to emphasise the Tsar as the "father" of all of Russians, which included other principalities which sought to remain independent. Before the unification of Russians under the leadership of Moscow, each city and town had its own Opolcheniye not named Narodnoe, but named after the city or town, so Novgorodskoye Opolcheniye, Suzdalskoye Opolcheniye, Vladimirskoye Opolcheniye, etc. These were not militia as such, but armed crowds that, when attacked, would arm themselves and gather into a polk, which is translated in its modern meaning as a regiment. Dal' gives other usages such as rat', voisko, opolcheniye, tolpa and vataga. Although formed into regiments, divisions and even armies during their existence, the Opolcheniye never had their own permanent units, and it was only during their last creation in 1941 that they were transferred to the regular units and formations en masse. First Narodnoe Opolcheniye, was formed in 1611 during the Russo-Polish War of 1605–1618 Second Narodnoe Opolcheniye, was formed in 1611–1612 during the Russo-Polish War of 1605–1618 During the War of the Fourth Coalition (1806–1807), the Narodnoe Opolcheniye was raise numbering some 612,000, but not used in combat In 1812 Narodnoe Opolcheniye of 420,000 was formed during the French invasion of Russia and was used extensively during the war and into the 1813 campaigns. At this time the Cossack opolcheniye was also created that even included use of captured 18th- or even 17th -century Turkish cannon kept as trophies. During the Crimean War (1853–1856), a new Narodnoe Opolcheniye numbering about 360,000 was called out, but not used in combat, although the 7,132 members of the Morskoye Opolcheniye formed from former naval and merchant officers and seamen did serve on active duty. During the reign of Alexander II of Russia from 1874 a Gosudarstvennoye Opolcheniye was created which existed until 1917. The primary organisational intent of the government was to offer administrative framework for the previously spontaneous creation of opolcheniye formations due to the ending of serfdom a decade earlier, and the increasing Socialist revolutionary activities. It was used in Siberia during the Russo-Japanese War The Narodnoe Opolcheniye was formed again in 1941 during the Great Patriotic War in significant numbers. Sixteen divisions were formed in Moscow. Eighteen were formed in Leningrad, of which five became regular rifle divisions. With the invasion of Russia by the French and their Allies in July, 1812, the Militia or "Opolchenie" was raised. As Nafziger says, "These units were poorly clothed, and badly armed. Much of their equipment was makeshift; hatchets replacing sabers, pikes replacing muskets. Their organization was very inconsistent, although efforts were made to model it after the regular line units."  The basic unit of the Opolchenie was the "druzhin" or cohort/regiment. An unconfirmed theoretical organization for such a Cohort found in Nafziger was 1 Grenadier company of 116 all ranks (musket armed), 1 "Light" battalion of 4 companies armed with muskets (135 all ranks each), and 2 pike battalions, each of 4 companies (221 all ranks each). Moscow in particular raised some units that were (at least theoretically) all armed with Muskets. As time went on, these troops were often used as cadres to replace losses from the regular units. Supposedly their one universal insignia was a brass cross worn on the cap inscribed "For Faith and the Czar", from which the more familiar, later Prussian Landwehr cross was derived. Viskovatov, as translated by Mark Conrad has more details of the uniforms and flags of these troops, such as is known.

Competitive NA Events/Tournaments / ALT - American Linebattle Tournament - New thread!

The American Linebattle Tournament will be held in a similar fashion as TNWL. With world cup style group stage, accompanied by a tournament style playoff. At the moment, the ALT will be played with one division, but if a number of regiments apply, the Tournament will be split into two divisions. More info coming soon.

Welcome

The 3DM is hosting a Monday naval event at 8 PM EST. The server is hosted by Mark Mods in Chicago.
As you can tell, we're going for a no-nonsense thread, but it'll get the point across.


How it works

Come to our Teamspeak at 7:30 PM EST to give numbers and get info.
Add both the admins on steam.
Two teams, eight ships total.
Each regiment gets their own ship.
FOL and FOC are not really a thing.
Probably wont do this: One regiment has a flag bearer, making their ship the Flag ship and commands the rest of the team.

History of the U.S. Army Rangers       The United States Army Rangers are an elite military formation of the United States Army, that serve in designated U.S. Army Ranger units or are graduates from the U.S. Army Ranger School. The term ranger has been in use unofficially in a military context since the early 17th century. The first military company officially commissioned as rangers were English soldiers fighting in King Philip's War (1676) and from there the term came into common official use in the French and Indian Wars. There have been American military companies officially called Rangers since the American Revolution.The 75th Ranger Regiment is an elite airborne light infantry combat formation within the United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC). The six battalions of the modern Rangers have been deployed in wars in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, and saw action in several conflicts, such as those in Panama and Grenada. The Ranger Regiment traces its lineage to three of six battalions raised in World War II, and to the 5307th Composite Unit (Provisional)—known as "Merrill's Marauders", and then reflagged as the 475th Infantry, then later as the 75th Infantry.The Ranger Training Brigade (RTB)—headquartered at Fort Benning—is an organization under the U.S. Army's Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and is separate from the 75th Ranger Regiment. It has been in service in various forms since World War II. The Ranger Training Brigade administrates Ranger School, the satisfactory completion of which is required to become Ranger qualified and to wear the Ranger Tab. On June 19, 1942 the 1st Ranger Battalion was sanctioned, recruited, and began training in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland. Of 500 volunteers who first formed the Rangers at Carrickfergus, only 87 survived by the end of the war. 80 percent of the original Rangers came from the 34th Infantry Division.A select fifty or so of the first U.S. Rangers were dispersed through the British and Canadian Commandos for the Dieppe Raid in August 1942; these were the first American soldiers to see ground combat in the European theater.Together with the ensuing 3rd and 4th Ranger Battalions they fought in North Africa and Italy commanded by Colonel William Orlando Darby until the Battle of Cisterna (29 January 1944) when most of the Rangers of the 1st and 3rd Battalions were captured. Of the 767 men in the battalions 761 were killed or captured. The remaining Rangers were absorbed into the Canadian-American First Special Service Force under Brigadier General Robert T. Frederick. They were then instrumental in operations in and around the Anzio beachhead that followed Operation Shingle. On 6 June 1944, during the assault landing on Dog White sector of Omaha Beach as part of the invasion of Normandy, then-Brigadier General Norman Cota (assistant CO of the 29th ID) approached Major Max Schneider, CO of the 5th Ranger Battalion and asked "What outfit is this?", Schneider answered "5th Rangers, Sir!" To this, Cota replied "Well, goddamnit, if you're Rangers, lead the way!" From this, the Ranger motto—"Rangers lead the way!"—was born             Ranger Training began in September 1950 at Fort Benning Georgia "with the formation and training of 17 Airborne Companies by the Ranger Training Command". The first class graduated from Ranger training in November 1950." The United States Army's Infantry School officially established the Ranger Department in December 1951. Under the Ranger Department, the first Ranger School Class was conducted in January–March 1952, with a graduation date of 1 March 1952. Its duration was 59 days:28–29 At the time, Ranger training was voluntary.In 1966, a panel headed by General Ralph E. Haines, Jr. recommended making Ranger training mandatory for all Regular Army officers upon commissioning. "On 16 August 1966, the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Harold K. Johnson, directed it so." This policy was implemented in July 1967. It was rescinded on 21 June 1972 by General William Westmoreland. Once again, Ranger training was voluntary.:28–29 In August 1987, the Ranger Department was split from the Infantry School and the Ranger Training Brigade was established.The Ranger Companies that made up the Ranger Department became the current training units—the 4th, 5th and 6th Ranger Training Battalions. 29 These units conduct the United States Army's Ranger School at various locations at Fort Benning, Georgia, Camp Frank Merrill, near Dahlonega, Georgia, and Camp James Rudder at Eglin Air Force Base's Auxiliary Field No. 6/Biancur Field, in northwest Florida.
