Because he got beaten twice and left the country a ruin under foreign occupation. Also Napoleon III kinda f*cked things up too.

Can I just say that I’m really impressed with the cav community, 10x more mature than the inf community and a lot less tolerant of the cancerous players

Except that was above average for a man at that time so he wasn't really short at all by previous standards.

I agree with Steven that a big part would probably come from the fact that he lost. Had he won then obviously France, and the rest of the world, would be very different today. However he didn't, and every victory that he ever won was rendered virtually irrelevant. Besides, for me at least, Napoleon would be a symbol of the revolution considering that is where he rose to prominence, which is celebrated on Bastille day.

Ah yes, Napoleon Bonaparte...the republican revolutionary who went on to become an Emperor and installed his own family onto half the thrones of Europe.

Yes the man who rose to prominence on the back of the revolution and who still inspired his men who saw change in him rather than the old regimes. Just because he crowned himself emperor it doesn’t change how he was perceived by his followers.

Napoleon polarised people’s opinions but he still came about because of the revolution, making him a figure of such. You can not deny it.

Just because you English and Americans can't appreciate the metric system doesn't mean Napoleon was per definition shit.
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

the real question is why those closed-minded English can't speak another language?
